Here's the link to the new line of foamcore cake boards I've mention over the past few weeks. I've tried out a number of samples and all have been great!

Thanks Jeff! I was excited to go check it out. Unfortunately, the cost is really not what I was hoping for icon_sad.gif I really can't justify $5 + per cake board. Guess I'll just keep cutting my own.

I agree... just too expensive for a one time use and then throw it away.

I have to agree with everyone else, out of my price range. I'll have to keep buying the foam core on sale and cutting my own.

Thanks so much, wanted to attempt using foamcore, but just could not face the cutting. For some of my cakes, I've spent more than $5.00 for the boards just for security. Some of my cakes have been very heavy. Now I will go them a go!
Best Wishes and Happy Caking

Unfortunately, I have to agree with everyone else.

For example, the round 3/16" package of 6 is $25!!!! icon_eek.gif

I need to use THREE 3/16" boards to get a nice cake board thickness, so basically I would be paying about $12.50 for the cake board alone.

I can go to Michael's and pick up two foamcore boards for $3 when they're on sale, and that will give me more than enough foamcore for the thickness of board that I make.

I will continue to make my own as well...as much as I loathe doing it, I can't justify a $12 cake board. JMO.

Wow...yeah, you figure on average you can get about 2 custom cake boards out of one foam core boards from michaels (if they're average size cakes). Compared to the price of the foamboardsource boards, you could get about 4 boards by making them yourself...hmmm...I'll have to agree with most everyone else...As much as I dislike making them, I'll have to.

Man! Had my hopes up too!

Hi: This won't help respond to the post but can anyone explain how to make your own. How do you know when michaels has them on sale. You just cut the rounds and put foil paper around them? How many?

Sorry to sidetrack this post a little

Recently I've been able to buy thick (!/2") foam core boards at Hobby Lobby on sale 1/2 price, ($2.50 aprox) .that way I don't have to double or triple the boards for strength. I wouln't mind spending the extra money for precut boards for wedding, anything for less stress!!!

Well, let's not forget that part of that price includes the polystyrene coating, and the nice uniform edges. Still... I think the only time I would fork over that much money would be for a wedding cake... and I only make those for family.. and I haven't made one in over 10 years (would like to though!).

Jeff, thanks for all your work on this. I'm bookmarking the site just in case someone gets married...!

I also notice the only way to get 6" or 8" is in the wedding combo pack. What??

Michaels sells sheets of foamcore in various thicknesses. I put the cake pan on top, take my sharpie and trace around it then cut with a serrated knife. I then put clear contact paper on top to make it food safe and cover the bottom with either fondant or ribbon, depending on the cake. I don't use foil on cake boards any more, I prefer the fondant covered board with ribbon border look instead.

Well...hubby and I found a company locally who makes the honeycombed cardboard which is 1/2 inch thick.I buy a pallet which costs me roughly $400.00 but I can go 2 years without reordering(Roughly 500 boards at 19X14).Hubby cuts them on his table saw to my popular sizes and leaves me a few for custom lengths. I cover them in fancy foil and I can even add a ribbon around the edge if I want to..Very affordable.

I'm confused, I was thinking everyone here had been saying contact paper was not food safe - is it????

No, contact paper is NOT food safe. Using Press n Seal over the contact paper would be the correct thing to do.

~~~~~~~~
Prices are out of range of what I'd be willing to pay for the convenience of not cutting my own...although cutting foamcore board with a hot knife is really easy.
thank you so much, the only time i used contact paper, i used a small, thin foamboard with freezer paper under the cake and then the thick foamcore with the contact paper, wouild have been so much easier to cover the one board twice! thanks again!!!
Well I've been using it for years, it's been recommended by several top names in the business and I haven't killed anyone yet. Given that I see no reason to change. icon_razz.gif
"Not having killed anyone yet" isn't exactly a compelling argument in favor of putting food down on a plastic surface that hasn't met food safety qualifications...ESP since the contact paper I have was made in China.
It takes 2 seconds to put Press n Seal down.
Several "top names in the business" also stick wire directly in their cakes. Just because someone has made a name for themselves in the industry doesn't mean they make the correct decisions. icon_smile.gif
I'm not going to argue about it. To each is own. My cakes are safe and have had no health issues related to them at all. I'm comfortable with my decisions and I thank you for your concern. icon_smile.gif
wow, I was really hoping the prices would be comparable to what we'd be paying retail for the boards themselves. Probably more because of the fact that they are moisture resistent and all.
Might wind up getting some for a wedding though. I don't mind cutting squares but those circles are such a pain!!!
Right now I'm able to get 10 sheets for around 30.00 w/ shipping and that's a 20"x30" sheet, I can make a lot of cake boards out of one sheet. Normally I only use 1 sheet for a 4 or 5 tiered wedding cake (with the base board too)...so I pay roughly $.50/board. Even at $1.00/board I might consider ordering these, just to avoid cutting them myself...but I really couldn't afford to use these for EVERY cake order, which is what i'd like to do eventually!
don't wanna post my source here to conflict with Op's objective here to sell these boards, so if anyone is interested pm me.
Thanks bobwonderbuns!
I now have to go see what contact paper, press and seal and freezer paper are! I feel stupid asking these questions here. I don't have any friends interested in cake decorating so... I have to embarrass myself. Aside from being new to cake decorating, english is also my 3rd language (hope that justifies my silly questions). icon_smile.gif
WOW, those are expensive and I'll bet shipping is no less than $10.00 -if not more. I'll just stick to my handy little electric saw and using my cake pan as a template.
