HI, I need your help so you are all way more experianced than I icon_biggrin.gif

I am a Veterinary Nurse and I found this cake thanks to the link for the teapot cake issue and I absolutely love this persons cakes.
I would like to learn how they did the 3D design. It looks like icing bulit up and kind of sculpted and then painted? Any ideas on how to do this would be very appreciated -
Here is the link to the photo

Being the dog lover than I am...I just love that cake! If I were making that cake I think I would airbrush it first, of course. Then take some fondant and shape it into the a shape similar to a dogs head/ears. Lay that on top of the cake, then cover it with icing. The underlying fondant will give you a fondation on which to build up the icing. The rest just looks to be regular icing or possible royal! Hoe this helps!

That's a beautiful cake! I'm going to look around that website tonight when I'm not baking cakes icon_biggrin.gif

I never even thought about the fondant underneath, good point. I am going to try to email this person and see if they will give me any tips seeing as I do not live remotely close to them and should not be any competition. I'll let you know the response I get thumbs_up.gif

I sent an email to the creator of these cakes and they replied. The dogs are piped in buttercream and then hardened in the refrigerator. they are then carved into the shape they become. I think that I may try one this weekend and will post how it turns out, good or bad icon_biggrin.gif
