I just saw the preview for it and it shows some royal icing decorations. I can't wait to see it. I love that kind of stuff. (and I'm sure anyone that cake decorates like us).

Have fun.

sorry about that. I just watched the show and it wasn't that great. the last half showed him stacking a wedding cake and then covering another one with fondant and that's about it. the rest was about making wedding favors. So you didn't miss too much. icon_smile.gif

I only caught the last 10 minutes of it yesterday and noticed that the guy doing the decorating is a LEFTY! Yo-who-zy! There is hope for me yet!! I'd like to watch it in full tonight...as long as it doesn't come on the same time as Deparate Housewives!! icon_biggrin.gif

I saw the last 30 minutes of it. The cake that won was cute! Nadine I think was her name. She was shocked that she won. All they did was fondant though! I wish they would go back to doing icing. I saw the chocolate challenge last week sometime. That looks so fun to do!! I would be eating the chocolate though.. I don't think they would like that! The wedding cake challenge is coming up the weekend of March 12th & 13th. That should be a lot better then the other shows. We have a crawfish boil to go to on the 12th so I hope I don't miss it. That's ok... I could watch it there!! icon_lol.gif

I watched all three shows, the Disney wedding one, the chocolate one...tummy ache just thinking of all that chocolate...and the Birthday cake competition. They were interesting, and I thought the winner of the BDC was a great cake, definitely something a child would be more interested in, well, maybe a little girl would...heck, I would love it!

I recorded it icon_wink.gif It was a really good one this time, because you got to see different techniques put to use...I think CakeDivas cake was horrible and sloppy (the painting), although she put a lot of work into it...I'm still glad she didn't drop it icon_wink.gif
Now Marinas cake was very very nice...Sweet...You can check out her work at www.justcake.com. I was surprised to see her on the show actually, since she hadn't posted anything about the competition on her site before the buzz.
The sugar clown was spectacular...I wouldn't mind one icon_wink.gif
I'm dying to try out Marinas cake...I'm gonna try to get a pic icon_wink.gif

I thought the birthday cake competition show was just great.....way to many commercials though! I loved Marinas cakes, not too busy or anything, just nice and neat! I can't wait to try making it either! The show was certainly worth watching! icon_biggrin.gif

Well I definitely want to try it, just need to make time for it. I'm actually trying out a crooked cake for a wedding, due in 3 weeks. Not bad..

Now, if you're crazy about surfing the web, go to www.justfab.com, and click on links...You will find cool websites from cake artists, including Elisa Strauss, from Confetti Cakes, who was the one to make the sock monkey at the BC Cake Challenge.

I just went to Marina's web site and I found the cakes to be beautiful! I know I certainly can never achieve what she's doing in my lifetime; my talents don't run that far. Did we look at the same site MrsMissey?!? I picked her as the winner hands down before the judging. Hers was a delightful cake without the pretentious fuss of some of the others.

By the way, the Cake Diva is here in Hoboken where I live and she has quite a good reputation. Although I didn't see the whole show (just the last ten minutes) I was amazed at how--sorry to say this--awful her cake looked. I know she does cakes for All My Children and other soaps, so I expected much more from her. Maybe she had a bad day or just isn't comfortable under the spotlight (literally!).

Maybe they should have a different type of contest, one for age categories of cakes...? That would be fun, and can you imagine trying to judge someones cake?

cookieman,

I must say that I am definitely with you on this one. I was not impressed at all with the Cake Diva's cake. I was thinking to myself the whole time, "she can't be finished with that cake, there has to be more that she is going to do with it." I, like you, picked Marina's cake to be the winning cake, even though my husband was certain that the blown sugar clown one was the sure winner (of course I had to gloat when the one I picked won icon_wink.gif ). I must say that these people are very talented. I can only dream of being half as good as they are, but still love decorating cakes and learning new techniques.
