Sorry, I was just about to start decorating the cake when I realized I have just a few more questions regarding decorating a barbie doll dress cake:

1. Can you substitute ready made frosting (i.e. Betty Crocker frosting in a can) for homemade buttercream? This will be used for the crumb coat and bodice of the dress.

2. Can you use rolled fondant for the dress instead of regular fondant? (I accidentally made Toba Garrett's rolled fondant recipe instead of a regular fondant recipe)

3. If I can't use rolled fondant...is there any way to convert it into regular fondant? Or is it too late? icon_cry.gif

TIA!

I made a Barbie doll dress cake last year for my daughter. It was a success! I made buttercream, but I don't see any reason why the ready made stuff wouldn't work. I like to freeze the cake after decorating and then take it out about 6-7 hours before the party and it is perfectly thawed.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with fondant!

Good Luck!

I have done 3 barbie cakes in rolled fondant. Have a look at my pics. I crumb coated with buttercream first. HTH

I don't think it would matter if you used ready-made icing. And I really don't know what the difference is between rolled fondant and regular fondant so I can't give an opinion there!
