I have a wedding cake to make at the end of September and I need all the help I can get on making fall leaves. Does anyone have any ideas ?
I did a fall wedding last year. I used gumpaste, colored in several shades of green, gold, orange, red, brown etc. I mottled some of the colors together to get a varied colored effect. I used Wilton mini fall leaf cookie cutters and leaf veiners for detail. I used a ball tool to thin the edges and dried them on crinkled foil to get them to cup and wave.
Check out the book Little cakes from the whimsical bakehouse. They have an idea for making chocolate leaves in fall colors by painting melted chocolate right onto real leaves to get the right look. They look really realistic and beautiful!
i took a demo at ices convention last year.. she used real leaves.. washed good.. dried good. melted different colors of chocolate disk.. kept warm on a heating pad.. each leaf.. she used different color chocolate ...and painted the chocolate on and..blended them.. let set up.. peel leaf from chocolate.. made acorns from chocolate clay mixture. etc. beautiful and delicious. you can also make the leaves from chocolate clay.. roll out.. cut with leaf cutters. dry over wrinkled foil.. then paint different colors on it and blend them . beautiful and delicious. i have got to make a cake in a few weeks.. using this method. chocolate vs. g/p... or fondant .. will be more tasteful.. and the "WOW" remarks.. hth
