anything other than a dog/cat/bird/common zoo animal/etc.. NO GO.

true story: i was watching survivor one night and they showed a clip of a tarantula (MAYBE half a second... it was part of a little "montage" to take up time), sure enough, that night i had terrible nightmares about spiders all over my house.

I grew up in the country and one had a snake come out of the garbage disposal. My mom called my dad which worked at the local fire department and the firemen came to get it out. LOL

I live with a 4 1/2 foot black pine snake, bearded dragon and a gecko, all as pets. But I still get freaked out when I see a snake outside.

I am sooo sorry this happened, but I must admit my first response was to crack up laughing!! I could so see my oldest son doing this to me! Our family is notorious for scaring the crud out of eachother! The worst for me is spiders EEEWWWWEEEEWWWW! When I was 15 I stood on my bed screaming because there was a spider by my bedroom door, well nobody heard me so....I grabbed aqua net hair spray, mousse, peroxide, anything I could reach off my vanity and let that spider have it! My mom finally came in and about died laughing at the "foaming" spider on the floor!
Thank God the snake didn't hurt anyone, but I can't quit laughing...hehehe!

MrCake01 I do live out in the country. I live in rural North GA. What is funny is just last week my dad saw a copperhead while fishing and my husband had made a comment how he had not seen a snake around here in forever. I told him today it was all his fault. They wanted us to know they were in fact around. (ha ha)

Blessedist - You better believe I am investing in moth ball stock tomorrow !! You will be able to smell moth balls within a 5 mile radius of my house !!!

Idreamofcakes - My kids always try pranking me that is why I reached to grab the thing !!!

Thankfully it was a garden snake, don't particularly care for them, but I'd much rather deal with those than those nasty palmetto bugs I used to see when I lived in Florida - for those of you who don't know what they are, the best way to describe them is "flying roaches", You can hear them fly. EWWWWWWW!

OMG!! I think I would have broke down and cried if it had happened to me!! Actually, reading all these stories is just creeping me out!! (I'm such a wimp)

I've lived in my house for 13 years and I've only been in my backyard about 5 or 6 times (seriously) because we have garden snakes!! My husband has seen them, people who have worked on our house have seen them.

One time, my husband and my youngest son who loves animals and isn't scared of anything, told me to come outside; they had caught one of the snakes and had it in a bucket!! Needless to say, I wasn't very happy with them that day!! LOL!! Oh yeah, that same child, came downstairs when he was about 6 years old and told us to look at what he caught; it was 2 GIANT spiders (they were dead because he crushed them as he was carrying them)!! I wasn't scared of the spiders, but, I was scared that they could have bitten him!!

Sorry to hear about the snake freaking you out so bad. I'm not a lover of snakes, so I can feel for ya. I live in the country here in Texas and have found 2 snakes in our house, 1 in the garage and I've lost count of how many outside. Did I mention that 2 of the outside snakes were on my front walk and doorstep. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Like someone said ina previous post, keep a garden how by the front door and keep a level head and you'll be fine. None of the snakes around where I live are poisonous, but I tend to want them gone anyway. LOL Hope you don't have to see anymore snakes in the house.

PS: my son has one of those rubber snakes and I dont know how many times I've come around a corner or opened something and saw it and jumped out of my skin. Unfortunately, his poor little rubber snake found it's way out to the trash. I figured he'd be more comfortable out there. LOL

We moved into our rental house in Northern NJ last year - we had no idea that snakes lived in the basement (they never told us about it). We have garner, ring, and eastern milk snakes in there. They hang from the ceilings, out the rock foundations....goodess I get sick every time I see them! They made it to the main levels twice. The copperheads and timber rattlers have NOT gotten inside yet, but they are outside.

I sooooo feel your distress icon_smile.gif Try to purchase SnakeAWAY repellent. Fill any holes in the foundation with brillo pads, and spread mothballs around. This will help you icon_smile.gif

I will never forget the summer morning when I lived in Florida when I stepped out of the shower and instead of stepping onto the floor I stepped onto a black snake. Although they are not a harmful snake they will bite. I didn't sleep for weeks and wouldn't use "that" bathroom until my husband could tell me where it came from. Apparently it had found it's way into the house through the hole behind the toilet.

Yes, brillo pads and moth balls do help.

Where's Rikki Tikki Tavi when you need him??

Also, I currently have an oppossum living in one of my seldom-used garbage cans out between mine and my neighbor's garage. I thought it would leave on it's on, but it's been sleeping/hibernating there for a WEEK now! I do NOT like oppossums.

We deal with scorpions getting in the house all the time. Yes we exterminate but that doesn't stop them from actually getting in, they just die later on, but still have time to get ya before they do. My daughter's fiance killed one in our guest bathroom just yesterday! Ugh! I hate them. Can't walk around barefoot in the dark at all, and you surely have to check all shoes before you put them on! Not fun!

Our neighbor went out on her porch (we have decks in front of our cabin homes) that is 4 ft. off the ground and has steps that you must use to get up on the porch...She thought she saw her dog's leash sitting on the bench they have on their porch, she began to fuss at her son for not putting it back where it belonged and she grabbed it only to realize it was actually a snake!!!! Luckily it was a harmless snake but the area we live in is notorius for rattlers and copperheads! Still oober creepy!

Sorry that happened to you.

Years ago I had a cat who brought her 'booty' home alive. I still look inside the bowl of the throne to make sure there isn't a snake swimming around.

Besides the initial shock, most of the creatures don't bother me.

My fear this summer has been skunks and porcupines. My rottweiler thinks they're big fun.

I live about 3 miles from CakesDivine. I haven't had a scorp this year. I have had mice, snakes. My problem is the skunks, the suckers don't ever come out before October. Not this year. Bathing the rottweiler is a big deal.

Porcupines, stick it up any ones butt if you like them. The vet bill is horrendous.

I've actually had to learn how to get the quills out!

I still have to protect my little brother from snakes and spiders.

He's in Iraq now, being responsible for at least 100 people.

He would never admit it, he can't stand the thingies.

I accidently picked up a spider not too long ago. It was laying flat with the legs curled up. Brown, soft and fuzzy. Thought it was someting the kids were playing with till I looked at it and it sprouted legs... in my hand!!! Ack!

Spiders don't usually bother me but that was too much. Good thing I didn't put it in my pocket like I usually do when I'm cleaning. icon_surprised.gif

I rented a carpet shampoo machine at the local variety store a few years back, you know, the kind of store that has everything, including little pets like guinnea pigs and mice and fish. There was some commotion going on in the back of the store while I was getting my shampoo stuff but I didn't pay any attention.
So I get home, get the machne all set up and go to it.
I was shampooing my carpets because I had a very old but precious golden retriever who shed like there was no tomorrow and because of her age couldn't always get outside in time. Anyway, I finish shampooing the livingroom, take the thing apart to change the water - my lord it was filthy and there was a big wad of hair. I reached in to grab the clump of dog hair and to my horror -
I pulled out a dead ginnea pig!! I about had a heart attack!! I must have washed my hand for an hour then poured an entire bottle of bleach on it. Not to mention I had to reclean the carpet.

When I was stationed in southern California I saw them and scorpions all the time and it didn't bother me at the time but now I hate them all. My hubby saw a 6 ft garden snake outside our apartment the other day and I shuffle my feet when I walk outside so that it "scares" them. I hate spiders with a passion but because of the harm that black widows and brown recluise can do. That is horrifying to me that such a tiny thing can cause that much damage. We have had our apartment sprayed so much that we believe it is starting to make us sick. I am planning on moving away from here. Alaska is sounding better and better after reading this forum. Do they like the cold weather too? thumbsdown.gif

I like snakes, and I don't mind spiders too much (as long as I don't have to touch them), but my big, strong, body-building/weight-lifting brother will be the first to tell you that he screams like a little schoolgirl at the sight of a spider. Then he calls his wife to come deal with it! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

When I was a child, and we were stationed in Texas, we had a neighbor who used to call me over to catch any lizards that managed to get into her kitchen. Well, "call" is not a strong enough word. She would stand on her back step and scream until I came over.

Last July, my husband and I spent 2 weeks at our lake house in SC. I was sweeping the kitchen one night, getting ready to mop. I saw a dead spider on the floor that hadn't been there a few minutes prior. I called husband to come get it (because I'm crazy terrified of spiders). He reached down to pick it up and IT WASN'T DEAD!!! It wriggled in his hand and he squished it I ran outside, screaming.

The only bugs I can't handle are waterbugs. Those legs, the wings, I don't know. It's not logical that a human being can be afraid of an insect considering our size difference. What is it? Rodents, snakes, frogs...after the initial shock from the encounter, I can handle it. They aren't so horrible-looking, but those darn roaches...make my skin crawl. I watched Verminators once and had nightmares for a few days.
My boys would be seriously grounded if they pranked me with a rubber insect or snake.

I wish I would have never clicked this thread. You know I haven't seen a snake or spider or palmetto bug in quite a while but THIS thread pretty much guarantees I'll be seeing one or more in the next day or two.

We have tree frogs here and I've never seen them until a few year ago when we moved into this area about 1.5 hours from where we used to live(still in FL) I used to think they were cute when they would stick to the sliding glass door until my 3 year old thought it was cool and brought one in the house to show me. OMG!!!!

DS is the go to person for lizards that happen to come in the house, he doesn't mind picking them up and putting them back outside. He's such a good boy.LOL

Spiders and snakes I can deal with. I am just terrified of bees. Two years ago we had a 3,000 colony of yellowjackets build a nest in the wall of our house. I still shudder when I think of how their antennae (sp?) would stick out around the door facing. You could stand inches from the corner and hear them behind the wall. I nearly moved to my parents' house until they were gone.

If a bee finds its way into my vehicle, I swear I'll wreck trying to get it out.
