It has a very after taste. I think wilton has a no taste red (i think).
What is one ounce of food color? Is it the poweder stuff in the store or should i look for liquid color?

There is a liquid food coloring you will find in the baking section. I want to say McCormick brand has some. It comes in a jar like their flavorings do.

Yes. Check the baking section cause there is liquid food coloring there and if I recall correctly one bottle of the coloring is exactly one ounce and no bitter flavor. icon_smile.gif

1 jar of the Wilton color = 1 ounce.

I use an entire jar of the Wilton no taste red in my red velvet cake. (only thing I use Wilton color for.)

We've always used the McCormick liquid coloring for red velvet cake. Never heard of using gel colors.

Best red I've found for Red Velvet cake is AmeriColor's Soft Gel Paste Food Color in Super Red (220).

It's super concentrated, so I use about 1 slightly heaping teaspoon per cake mix or recipe. No flavor problems, either!

It's funny, I'm known for my Red Velvet, but I'm sick of it, now! Doesn't anyone want chocolate? LOL
