Do You Smooth Your Kitchen Cakes?

I am making 2 kitchen cakes to accompany the main wedding cake. When you provide additional cakes do you smooth the frosting on them? I am not decorating them at all. Just icing.
I think it's a matter of preference. I personally think that it looks more presentable when it is smooth.
I do smooth them, but not to the same precision as the displayed cake. Just no major waves or ripples is good enough for me.

I agree, you still want each slice to look neat when they plate it up, but there is no need for precision smooth icing
