Thank you all a million times more than very very very much.

Besides not hitting their elusive and ill-defined mark, I was momentarily disqualified, not allowed to start with the other kids. A rule was being interpreted which at best should have resulted in my simply being made to redo something.

But they said, "No you cannot start." While the other worked away.

Which tended to eff my head and there was no brain left by the end of the process when I coulda used it.

There's rivers of minutiae more--but even me, as one of the CC's most voluminous word production lines --I give myself kudos for summing up so succinctly a major factor of my discomfort.

Ices has declined to refund my $150 fee.

I really appreciate y'all's care for me.

Doug, you can turn the pipes off now--- icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Wait............. I hear something........

Guess mine is not the first heart broken, my eyes are not the first to cry
I'm not the first to know, there's just no gettin' over you

Hello, I'm just a fool who's willing to sit around and wait for you
But baby can't you see, there's nothin' else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide, since you pushed my love aside
I'm not in my head, hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you, hopelessly devoted to you

Aaaaaaagggghhhhhhh it's "K8 tie Dee!"

Which let me hasten to say that the discomfort I referenced is that I was not allowed to start on time. It was like hitting a brick wall at 90 miles an hour.

How 'bout these apples:
The test was on Wednesday & we were supposed to get our results announced at the banquet Saturday night. Wednesday night after it was over I was offered a waiver to sign that if I kept it a secret I could find out my results sooner. I signed. I said no pressure but when do we find out? Thursday late afternoon early evening. Cool.

Never happened.

Even though I contacted them.

We had a family emergency and so we left Friday morning.

Saturday night I'm texting a cake buddy at the banquet to tell me if I made it.

Why Why Why and how could one organization noted for this saccharin overload of "caring and sharing" in their mission statement treat anyone even me so carelessly or conduct business is this most slipshod way.

If anyone goes for this you should be competition winning level good. This however is the standard I was toiling under,

Question: Do we need to think "show " work or good quality decorating?
Answer: Well, in the perfect world, they'd be the same thing. In reality, though, I'm guessing we'll see something in between. I don't have any
illusions that in 8 hours anyone will put together something that could win the Tulsa show. But by the same token, I'm sure we'll see a higher
caliber of work than you'd coming out of a large production bakery. The RBA has a certification program for decorators that leans more toward
production work as I understand it. I think that's terrific, and I don't want to give the impression that I'm degrading it. RBA and ICES have different
focuses, and our certification programs should reflect that. I'd expect those who achieve ICES certification will show skills and techniques that
just aren't viable to use when you've got to decorate 25 or more cakes each day."

I mean how would you interpret that?

I'm nothing if not in between show quality and good quality decorating.

If they'd said you gotta be show competition quality I wouldn'ta done it.

A higher caliber than a large production bakery? To me that meant it was the accumulation of skills done well. I had four displays. You had to do 8 skills of your choice from a list.

What a crock.

What a cluster f___.

What say you?

How about this one for the irreverent amongst us:

"Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistle]
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That's the thing.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the right side of life"

It always makes me smile!!

Hope things are looking a little brighter today Kate.

Loving your work everyone! icon_biggrin.gif

So here's what I did in less than eight hours after the head on collison at the start gate--y'know like they did in vaudelville where they had the big hook & grabbed you by your goitered neck & snatched you back:

Image

my shoe

(they said my roses looked like pine cones but they passed 'em)

Image

I made all that baby's breath (in advance) I did all that painting for no points--the skill on this one is 1 point for piping.

I mean I got to choose all my skills--I'm just saying. I mean in order for me to do this cake I had to cut a stencil on site.

Image

They flunked me my on my Lambeth--wasn't precise enough.

Image

They flunked this baby in the angel wings although it has all the skills that I said it would.

I completed all my displays--could they have been better? Ahh yeah--try popping that out in less than eight hours.

Two tiers of the 3-tier was decorated in advance and the roses were made in advance then demo-d on site.

The picture frame was done in advance I just piped one set of the Lambeth dooeys.

Riddle me this one, Batman.

You think someone who is not a master cake artist could do that in less than eight hours?

<hilarious laughter>

I couldn't be happier those people found me not of their ilk--'cause dude, they were pretty ilky their own selves.

Does anyone know the answer to this question --

Is this certification recognized/accepted by any other organization, such as RBA, any culinary/pastry schools, the MOF in France, anything?
