I get there emails all the time, but I have never signed up...was going to then I found CC and well you know the rest LOL

They do send some really interesting video clips on how to do certain things but I find more info and help here on CC.

I've been on cake central for at least two and one-half years, and on yummy arts for about a year.

I love them both, and can't imagine not having access to both! Both offer the all important photo galleries and forums that have saved so many of us in a pinch whether we needed instructions or inspiration.

The downside with yummy arts, of course, is the monthly membership fee. If you learn better through watching someone show you a technique than through books and pictures, and you can afford the $19.95 fee (and regard it as a sort of "class fee"), then I think you might find it well worth it. Of course, there are additional opportunities to spend money at yummy arts too!

What you do get with the fee is access to many videos in a library filled with project cakes, showing specific techniques, products, and instructions. They're always introducing new project cakes and other ideas. Some of the new introductions become part of the video collection that members can access for free, and some are available only for purchase (but there are member discount codes and a once-per-month day with an even bigger discount, so it's usually reasonable).

Between the free videos and the additional videos I've purchased, my skills have come a long way, especially in fondant and gum paste.

There's a lot more to yummy arts, of course-- but it's the video library that has really made a substantial impact on my decorating skills and abilities. It's also inspired me to try new things. I got excited by the panoramic sugar egg "how to" video and went nuts for a while with them, as anyone who looks in my photo gallery can see.

The monthly subscription cost will make it not for everyone, but if it's feasible for you to give it a try, I'd definitely encourage you to do so.

Cake Central and Yummy Arts are both so essential to me now, and I can't imagine not having both!

I never heard of yummy arts until now but I'll definitely check them out. Isn't the internet great???!!

I actually found yummy arts 1st, b4 CC. Found some interesting videos and forums and yes the fact that you can actually watch techniques step by step is a plus. I found CC through a forum discussion at yummy arts.
But frankly, the subscription fee in my opinion could be better spent on buying some of the great DVD's of instruction out there.ie. Sharon Zambito, Collette Peters, Debbie Brown, etc. I did buy a couple from yummy for Susan Carberry, they are great, but cake specific.

I just checked it out and it's expensive!!! Will it be considered a business write-off? eg. reference material?

the nice thing about yummyarts is the videos. You don't have to be a member to get them, but the members do get a lot for free and discounts. I believe you can right it off for business, it a professional membership fee and also considered professional development.

I love both websites. Yummy Arts is free for 30 days ( if you do not want to pay for a membership just remember to cancel 4 days before you joined up) and in that 30 days I have learned a lot, I have decided to stay a little longer with Yummy Arts. I truly wished I would have found Yummy Arts when I first began decorating. I now know what I was doing wrong with my mmf fondant, how to build a large topsy turvy cake ( the ones that you see on The Food Network Challenge) and I could go on with my list. I was lucky to have joined with they were having their birthday bash and the Libary with all the videos were all turned on for free for 24 hours. I did not clean house that day. I learned so much that day!! You have nothing to lose if you remember to cancel in time.

I should have said to cancel within 26 days and not 4 days. You need to cancel within 48 hours before the 30 days is up so your card will not be charged, which is advised on the Yummy Arts website if you wish to cancel your membership.

I absolutely love yummy arts. I actually won one of there grand prizes, a years free membership. I have been a member about 6 months previous to there birthday bash. I even won a raffle once before. They give away 4-5 free books every week. Every other week is a free video and the others you would have to pay for. I have bought multiple videos from them in addition to Sharon Z and a few others I have. After a few I have learned I don't need everyone of them, because the techniques are the same. I also like the forums and everyone is so nice and helpful. I love this site also, and of course has more info in the forums. I am very visual learner and love the videos.

CakeCentral is a lot better than Yummyarts and better still - it is free. You will find CakeCentral covers everything Yummyarts offers and more. I wouldn't waste your money You can try it for a month though to make your own assessment.

I signed up for YA's free month deal. Yes the forum is great and I've gotten lots of tips off of that. They have cake specific instructions. They have lots of videos "bits", which at times are not too informative so I come on here to fill in the blanks. They do have tons of online videos and DVDs you can purchase and, if you are a member, there are always discounts you can apply. I like both but if I had to pick I'd go with CC. Why? Because it's free and times are tight! lol! I would spend the money on some really great fondant/buttercream DVDs and get additional tips online. With that said, it doesn't hurt to sign up for that free month, get some free info, and see if it's for you!

reviving this Thread. Anyone still a member of yummy Arts or at least buy the videos? I am thinking of just purchasing a few videos to stream on my phone or when I get a Kindle b/c you need Flash player.
