Hello everyone! I believe this is my first post here, I joined awhile back and have enjoyed looking at all the beautiful cakes posted here icon_smile.gif I have a son who has a dairy allergy so I have to make his birthday cakes for him and Im no professional! This year we want to do a cupcake cake probably in the shape of an oval for a race track and put hotwheels on it. So my question is How do I frost a cupcake cake? I have never done a cake like this before but thought it would be really cool.

Thanks for any suggestions!

If it were me, I would bake my cupcakes so that they are pretty flat. And then I would cover each cupcake in fondant. Then I would go make a little black fondant track for each one and place that on the fondant that is just sitting on the cupcake. Then you could glue the cars down with buttercream icing. You could just use little metal cars or you could make a few with fondant. You could have little popsickle sticks and put fondant flags on them. I would form the cupcakes in a figure 8. Hope this helps.

Or you could do something like this.

Good luck! Don't worry about making the grass like that. That was just the only picture that I could find showing the cupcakes and how they were put together. Although whoever made the cake, did a great job, it's always good for someone to put a new perspective on it!
