I'm making a poundcake. Already mixed the butter and sugar, about to add the eggs when I realized I didn't set them out to come to room temp. I don't even know the purpose of this. Should I just wait a while or go ahead? Thanks.
I've never let eggs sit out to room temp and have not had a problem. I've never even heard of doing that.
It will be fine. I rarely let them come to room temp and I make pound cakes all the time.
I'd done it without letting the eggs get to room temperature too and everythig gwent just fine !!!! so don't worry...
Google results came up with this reasoning for room temp. eggs: (sorry, it's a bit long)

Here's a cream cheese pound cake recipe where the butter and cream cheese are not brought to room temperature but used cold:

I put my eggs in a bowl with hot water for a few minutes before using, which warms them up a bit.
