Need Advice For Making A Doll Cake...
Decorating By frosting111 Updated 11 Jun 2009 , 3:35am by frosting111
I will be making my first doll/Cinderella cake in a couple weeks, and wanted to ask how is the best way to make the dress out of fondant icing?
What I cant quite understand is how everyone is getting the hem part of the dress so nice and even, and how does it line up in the back and around the waste line..also whats the best way to make the camisole?
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Ill be using the Wilton doll pan for the first time as well.
Thanks in advance, Mary
i have done a doll cake but it was my first one and due to me having probs with the fondant it isn't so great so i am not the best person to giva advice lol But are you right with a recipe for the dolly varden tin?
Just a tip when cooking in the tin, it is a good idea to put a little circle of baking paper at the narrow bottom end of the tin so it doesn't stick and grease and then coat the sides of it with a bit of flour before you put the mixture in.
don't wrap the fondant around the skirt part, roll out a big piece and put it over the top and smooth down the sides, you can always make the hole in the fondant later for the doll pick (if you want pleats, make long sausage rolls and attach to cake with icing before you put fondant on. HTH

Thanks, in my minds eye I kept thinking of wrapping the fondant around the cake.. of course over the top would be the right way...gesh I slip up sometimes!
So to get the hem just right I should put the cake on something and trim the fonadant?
thanks! the prob was my fondant dried really fast for some reason and i didn't make enough so thats why the hem is all uneven but atleast the rest worked out lol
Like pattycakes said i drapped the fondant over the top and with the bodice i just wet the doll with a bit of water and then wrapped the fondant around it and then just overlapped the two back edges of the strip over a bit and even though it created a bit of a rased seam i just covered it with 'buttons' etc lol
Oh by the way what sort of recipe are you using out of curiosity?

Thanks for the feedback... I'm taking down notes..
I'll be using Wiltons fondant, and a pound cake mixture for the denseness of the doll...
you should try MMF one time if you havn't yet it tastes great!
Hummm, maybe I will...I hear its awesome tasting
