I wish I had the room to convert an area to a bakery-- might have to consider the basement after the oldest moves out! or IF he moves out??? LOL! I would just love to see how people set it up.

I am <...theees..> close to being finished with my basement kitchen. It's a new build, not a conversion, but I will share pics when it is done. My one concern is that it's very tiny (10x14'), and I'm concerned that I won't have enough room for everything I need. I would think a garage would be better because there would be more space.

Hi I have never posted before but I am very proud of my bakery so I thought I would show you.
My son in law and his father did the majority of the renos. We only had a single car garage so it isn't as big as I would like. I ran out of room the first week. But it is serving it's purpose so far.
Thanks

Brenda

I didn't need a bathroom but we did have to put in a handwashing sink. I don't have a pic of that part of the bakery.

Very nice BandT! I'm totally jealous! Would you mind sharing a ballpark figure of how much it cost you to renovate your garage? (Sorry, if I'm being rude asking this...you certainly don't have to tell us).

In total just for the renos not including appliances it was around $5000.00
The biggest expense was the floor.

Sorry i should have said that we had the triple sink given to us. That alone would have cost $5000.00.

Here's mine that we finished in March. Actually a loft space above our garage but my hasband did a fabulous job of coverting it if I do say so myself! icon_biggrin.gif

This is my first time posting pics in a forum so hopefully this works! My hubby, mom and I converted our attached oversize one car garage. It's small but I have lots of room for all my cake toys plus some room to grow! It still needs crown moulding and a display cabinet where the cakes are sitting on the butcher block table.

I converted my detached garage. It is actually behind my house and is about 375 sq. feet. My HD requires that everything be commercial grade. I was not required to add a bathroom.

Cost:
$5000 for large appliances, tables, sinks, and racks (YEA Craigslist!)
$7000 for plumbing (had to run pipes across my back yard.)
$3000 for electrical (had to re-do it ALL, so I put in it's own meter.)
$1000 for heating and air (you can see the unit between the frig and oven.)
$6000 for structural renovation (walls, floor, ceiling, etc.)

Total: $22K

And I already owned about $10,000 in other small equipment like pans, airbrush system, fondant and gumpaste toys, etc.

I would sure love to do something like that. I just don't seem to have the time to be able to practice as much as I need to. I am afraid that I would never get good enough or I would end up with difficult customers all the time. Those bridezillas trying to get away with cake murder that I've been reading about lately scare me!! I just need to win the lottery, hire a maid and a nanny, then boy oh boy would I build myself a wonderful cake studio in the back yard!! icon_rolleyes.gificon_razz.gif
