i hope i'm not getting a head of myself but i can't help being excited! yesterday i handed in my app for our local farmer's market (where there's other baked goods cookies, pies tart and cupcakes but not decorated cookies!!) and my head is swimming with ideas!! i can only do every other weekend as i work my other job lol but it's doable and i have a great friend who's going to help (i'm also going to facepaint)!! i've planned it all out (on paper atleast) i'm going to have large and small packages, singles and cookies on a stick. plus i'm going to bring black RI to personalize (additional cost). bags with my sticker on it and all the cookies will be prepackaged with my sticker. (i'll bring extra's incase i have to open them). i also (might) have some small samples-just hearts in both chocolate and vanilla flavour dipped-just something quick.

How exciting!! I looked into it in my area, but they are indoors and I would need to purchase/build all counters, sinks, stoves, everything!! I would literally just be paying for floor space. It does have great traffic and good hours (not open 7 days a week). Maybe someday

In a way, that's really nice that yours is indoors. That way it's year-round. But they make you pay for everything? That seems a little extreme. I mean I could possibly see renting the station from them.

Yes, I thought it was all inclusive when I was looking into it -maybe some are. These have different types of vendors, so not all vendors need ovens and refrigerators for them to keep in a space. Probably a liability thing for them, too. It's great exposure, but not right now

urg!! i just contacted the guy and he's not too keen on it cuz they have a lot of dessert-type tables right now. i'm like i've been around those tables and i understand that yes cookies are a type of dessert but THESE fall into a category of their own-like artistic cookies. those others are drop style. then he said he wants to keep it balanced and is looking into getting more farmer's-as it's a farmer's market he doesn't want to turn it into a flea market!?!?!? REALLY?! i'm a bit angry right now and trying to hold my cool. he does want me to do the facepainting though (a sarcastic yea right now even though i LOVE facepainting). i really think this is a place to showcase my style and no one there had anything close to what i do.!! (i know i'm repeating myself) i'm really disappointed. he's going to look at his numbers so maybe there will be a space available (someone not going this weekend) uggggg!!! on the up side i guess that means less baking for me-yipee (bummer) and really it's more like a craft and our market doesn't have that much exposure!! they don't even want to bring it out to the street for the long weekend!! (i did that the one year and it was so fun-plus the tourists LOVED it-strolling down the street looking at all the stuff) just and updated vent-he said he'd get back to me later today (have to wait til i'm done working) thanks guys
I agree with JCE62108, bring him some samples (it is not a bribe, lol, just showing him what your product is)
i gave him my card that had my flickr account info there (like an online portfolio) so he started off mentioning how they have cakes and such-so i said i'm not bringing any cakes just cookies that NO ONE has-he's going to get back to me when he confirms who will be there on sat (doesn't give me much time to get ready) but since i have to do funfair baking i guess i could start early here's hoping he'll change his mind. some girls at work said to bring stuff anyway since i'm going to be facepainting
oh you girls are wicked!! lol i was thinking something along the same idea (small and simple ofcourse) and give away samples (i normally charge $2-3 for cheeks and $5 for the whole face) brilliant!! most of the girls at work say that it's suppose to support the community and the crafters/artists and farmer's in the area and since i'm paying for the spot i should be able to bring what i'd like. so i'll bring my samples to go with the facepainting and my stand up portfolio (which includes cakes too) and tough on him!!
well it's sunday and i'll update you all on the farmer's market saga...i didn't have time to make even samples (as i only had a couple of days notice). so saturday came and i was there with my portfolie-had spent a lot of time rearranging it so that one side was only cookies and the other was cakes but as it turned out he was including me in the kid's activity tent so i didn't have to pay for the spot and there was no charge for the facepainting (that was a complete surprise) and he ended up paying me which i was not expecting so it threw me a bit and had no idea what to charge. this was being put on by the community so i didn't want to charge too much but i was there all morning and i did end up painting quite a few faces. so anyway, at the end of the day he went on to explain that he is hoping to expand the market soon and if he does he can accept more "dessert style" vendors otherwise i have to wait until someone's contract is over and they don't renew (see if i had been on the ball none of this would matter cuz i would have been one of the first) so i really hope he can expand and i can showcase my cookies. thanks for all the support-now on to baking for the funfair!! (and the galleries-apparently there's some great stuff there that i've missed lately)
I would still give him a sample basket to differentiate and define your product. It sounds like, if nothing else, you made a nice day of it
