So I'm finally ready to invest in another printer (to be used only for edible images).
My question is where do you find the best price/service/quality for the inks?
I've been doing alittle research but need your opinions.
I will probably purchase an epson printer. I have one now with no problems.
Is there really a difeerence in epson and cannon?

I have an epson and I'm having such a hard time. The first lot of cartridges worked beautifully (I replaced the original epson printer chips and put them on the edible ink printer cartridges). When I bought my second lot of cartridges (tried with both the original epson chips and the ones that were already on the edible ink cartridges) I keep getting large lines go across the page all the way down.
Hopefully someone can give you some better comments but that's been my experience.
I just bought the canon ip3600 from amazon. I have not used it yet, still in box. It got great reviews and was very affordable. You do have to place the chips on the edible ink cartridges yourself, have not tried it yet, still waiting for them to come in the mail. So I hope that goes well. Good Luck!
I have a cannon and love it, use KK ink and sheets. You do have to put the chips on yourself but it is really easy. I had a few minor problems but Cannon support was great and remedied the problems promptly. I only spent $100 for it. I like KK because with the paper and ink you can download their program to design your images anyway you want which I love, easy to use (I am a little slow to learn computers)

I didn't know about changing the chips. I saw on the kopykake ? Website that you can use either epson or cannon. I just assume you would put the edible ink cartridge in and print.
I use epson now for my PC and have never had a problem.
Where do you get you ink and sheets from?
the cannon has chips on the cartridges that you can remove from the regular ink cartridge that comes with the printer and use on the edible ink cartridges. Just don't mix them up, each color ink has its own chip. You can buy the edible ink cartridges with the chips already on them but why spend the extra money, it is very easy to switch the chips, they just pop on and off. When you buy your first set of edible ink cartridges, also buy extra ink as you can refill them about 4 more times. It is much cheaper (just a little messy, I do it over the sink). I buy my edible paper and sheets from KK (Kopykakes) as they have good tech support and the downloadable program that you get for free with the purchase is great. HTH

Try changing your printer preferences to photo or best photo. Mine was doing that and I had cleaned the print head aligned the cartridges and nothing was working. When I checked printing preferences it was on text. HTH.

I have to do a cake for my nephew next saturday (13).. And i ordered it from a local store (i'm in canada and it comes cheaper this way) and i'm still waiting for it but i'm beginning to thing that's the problem is coming from the store... I'm so frustated ! 
I have my printer (epson nx300), the frosting sheet (got it from golda's kitchen) but my ink is missing...
Does anyone knows where I can buy it online (canada) or in a store (i'm in Montreal) ?? i'm so hopeless !!
I don't want to pay to get it print, i've almost all the stuff !

i was told by a lady at a cake supply shop that regular printer ink is non-toxic and can be used on icing sheets or rice paper...anyone heard that before?

I don't have a cannon, so I just selected "Model Number" "Starts With" "c" and a few came up.
Based on the results I would say that cannon ink jet ink is not non-toxic (i know, I know, double negative), and I would assume that most other inks would be as well. Unless the toner package actualy says "non-toxic" on it, I would assume that it wasn't.
i haven't checked into it at all but off the top of my head i would guess you are right. i was pretty surprised when she said that but as i don't have anything to back it up i didn't question her...it just didn't sound right.

there are plenty of things that are non toxic but i still wouldn't serve them to my friends, (enemies maybe, LOL)
verono, ink lasts depending on how many images you print and how big, just like regular ink
i got ink cart. from tastyfotoart...i heard horror stories of the terrible clogs peeps were getting....this stuff sat in my machine for 5 months, my son came and i finally took time to try it out,,,no clogs!...it's a cannon pixma i got off ebay for 65 bucks.
i wish someone would do a tutorial on switching the chips...PrEtTy PlEaSe!
I have the pixma too. popping the chips on and off is easy. Use the tool they give you or a sharp point of a knife to just lift the side (careful not to damage the underside) and it will pop off. To put on a chip just press down over the little tab, sometimes I have to hold the chip on while I am inserting the cartridge into the printer because they can come off. (Just don't mix up the chips, each color is different)HTH
