This is a joke, Right!
People don't really buy toppers that look like that. Do they?
Did you PhotoShop that thing in the pic to get us all going?
OMG! If this is real.... Well I have no words.... REALLY!
What was she thinking?

Sorry, I did not read the first installment of this saga. But does this mean someone actually sat down and MADE this thing??? Like, as a special favour to the bride?? I think the maker should perhaps go and secure the www.uglytoppers.com domain before it goes!!

And yes, this is definitively one for Cakewrecks, and you know it is not because your cake is ugly so please don't be offended. More like a badge of honour.

BCJean, your artistic abilities now makes that nightmare of a topper make more sense. Now the cake looks like a beautiful lady wearing the hideous hat her crazy mother bought her for Easter. Her eyes are crossed and rolling up in her head because her mom thought it would be a good idea to wear it the wedding.

Let's be honest people. Tell the truth, when you look at this topper, don't you here the screaming from horror flicks, or the theme music to Damien, the Omen, The Exorcist, Amitywille horror, Texas chainsaw massacre etc because I sure do.

I haven't followed the whole saga, but I scrolled down to the second picture and immediately thought, "Oh my! Who killed that bird and then put it on top of that gorgeous cake?"

I would have be highly upset. But alas it was their cake after all. I just want to know if the groom "flew" off the handle when he saw himself on that topper. My husband would have been mortified.

I would just like to say thank you to crazeyhair and all you ladies and gents posting on this...

I have not laughed so hard in such a long time, and it has been desperately needed. Finals are coming up and I have spent the last two weeks straight at my computer (save for a cake or two) typing what will turn out to be close to 30 pages of final projects...bleh icon_cry.gif

Keep the funnies coming thumbs_up.gif

I think everyone used all the synonyms of UGLY in this thread!!!!

The topper is so big it looks like a cake itself!

Since when does the groom hold flowers?

Your cake however is beautiful!

Cake pre-topper is gorgeous!!
Please tell us that the MOB is blind (with my apologies to the sight-disadvantaged people of the world), please! How did you let her do that to your cake without throwing a (glass) cup of something at her? Oh, and this is totally screaming cakewrecks. I'm sure that someone here can think of an appropriate title.
Also, do you have a pic with MOB standing near the cake with the topper on? I need to see the dress (just imagining tulle, lace, sequins, ruffles, pleats, and little iridescent butterflies - feathered of course - just to give it that perfect touch). Ok, I need to stop but this is so much fun!!! Great laugh you gave us, thanks!!

You all have me in stitches!!! Thank you all so much for you support. This was my first wedding cake and I am so glad that you all like it - it has passed the CC test icon_smile.gif Thank you BCJean for the addition to the cake - it was perfect!! I'm gonna have to show it to the MOG!!

To answer everybody - yes the topper was for real! Yes - the MOB made it, because she said that after searching for months they couldn't find what they (she) wanted and decided to make it!!! The bride - I don't think she cared for it but really had no choice in the matter. The Groom HATED it but bit his lip until the end when the MOB told them that his grandmother couldn't play the piano at the wedding because she wasn't good enough. Side note, I am an opera singer by profession and I have heard her play and she was just fine - but in the end, it didn't matter how she played she is the grandmother!!!! When that happened he blew his top and told the bride how much he hated everything.

The wedding was a through back to the 1980s - it was OVER the top. The bride is the youngest of 4 kids and they just reused everything from all the other weddings, poor girl!! The cake was originally placed on a table by itself (and the topper) and was part of the receiving line. I moved it to be with the sheet cakes on "the cake table" and out of the line. The topper was placed on the cake after the line was over when the MOB finally had time to go look at it. She told me later that night that after her daughter told her about our disgn for the cake that they "searched on line for a cake that would be similar to what you guys had agreed on and we couldn't find anything that looked nice. But now that I see it, it is better than I could have imagined." LOLOLOL I thought, you imagined the topper - how could you imagine this cake!!!!

I had seen the topper prior to the wedding and that is why I put up the OP to begin with, because I was freaking out about it. I changed the design just a bit and took everyones advice to put the topper on the table. Great idea!!

I wasn't offended in anyway - I felt sorry for the bride and groom more than anything. It was nice however, to have the opportunity to be there for everything and get to hear everyone's comments about the cake. I know the MOG and the her son really well and I was there as a guest (and I helped in the kitchen) and then ended up cutting the cake because the original person never showed up. I could go on for days about the drama behind the wedding but I won't.

The best compliment was from my friend the MOG who said that they were hoping for a cake so beautiful that people wouldn't even notice the topper - and that is exactly what they got. Her husband told me 5 times that night that I had the right to charge them double for the cake! I told him he might have a heart attack if I did!!

Ladies and gents - you are great!! Thank you for the laughs, support and a good time! Thanks for the tip to send it to cakewrecks and failblog - I am going to email them both today icon_smile.gif I have a cute pic of the bride and groom with the cake. I will get my hubby to resize it for me and post it.

Thanks again - I couldn't have done it with CC!!!

Thanks for sharing!!! It sounds like the bride and groom are really good people!!! To put up with all that and not through a MAJOR hissy fit is admirable (especially with all the bridezillas you see on TV all the time now). I'm glad they had such a beautiful cake to enjoy (underneath that topper thumbs_up.gif )--it sounds like you really helped make their day special despite all the other drama!

Oh...that poor couple!! I feel for anyone going through a divorce BUT a newlywed couple need time to get adjusted to being a married couple...without throwing a live-in-mom/mil in the mix! You'd think she'd understand that....
