I was making my usual cake for a customer and I tasted the frosting and it was salty then my cake batter, salty too? i'm thinkiing WTF? i'm going nuts?! its the same stuff I always used and it tastes different.I found out the next day that i'm pregnant with my 3rd Has anyone ever gone through this before where their tastebuds changed from pregnancy?
Absolutely. Milk tasted rancid, nothing was ever salty enough... Congratulations, btw!
Congrats to you! I never had my taste buds change but I had to stop decorating completely when I was pregnant with my second because first the smell and then the shear thought of buttercream icing made me ill!
OMG, totally!! When I was pregnant with all three my tastebuds were seriously out of whack - milk and butter tasting sour, the whole salty thing...yup...
Thanks soo much everybody for making me feel better. With my other 2 I never had any "tastebud issues".You read about anything and everything possible changing in your body during pregnancy as strange as it could be,but never quite believe which ones you will have. Thanks again
Yep definately. In the first 3 months everything the colour green and raw tasted sooooo bitter, i nearly puked. I couldn't eat salad, cucumbers(my favourite) etc. The day after the 3 month mark, everything went back to normal, but i had cravings for eggs (ate 8 of them for breakfast)
WOW.....looks as though if I ever have children, I have a lot to look foward to . But it's all for a good cause....don't you ladies agree? I can eat just about anything edible....I enjoy all types of food. So I'm curious to know what is going to become putrid when it's my turn.

Lol, it's such a trip to see how your body reacts...for 14 weeks v8 and doritos were literally the only two things I could keep down

For me it was anything orange!
Weird isn't it? I still don't like salad the way I used to, prefer my veggies a bit cooked, they still have to retain the bite, but I used to love raw veggies
ahhhhh yes, pregnancy and cakes! When I was pregnant with my third I had to make an anniversary cake for my in-laws. A beautiful chocolate-chocolate cake covered in chocolate fondant w/ chocolate roses and fans. It took me a very long time to make all those roses and fans and the entire time the smell from the chocolate fondant made me so sick I could barely stand it! They loved it, but I couldn't even bare to eat a piece of it. Now every time I look at a pic of that cake the unpleasant memories come back to me!
Oh man, YES! With my first, I began my pregnancy by going totally off coffee, could NOT stand the smell, thought, taste or sight of it. When I fell pregnant with my second, I knew it even before I took a pg test because of my sudden aversion once again to coffee!
And don't get me started on weird cravings and also puking around the smell of cooking meat
To the OP - congratulations on your third! I would have loved to have a couple more, but it was not to be...as it turns out I had my hands full enough with my two munchkins (and still do!)
When I was preg. I couldn't do taste tests on my icing or cakes.....I had no appetite for cake what-so-ever....and I'm a big fan of sweets!
I also found that I craved salty and savoury stuff with my first (a boy) and all things sweet with my second - a girl. Weird huh.
I crave salty stuff and meat with my boys and sweets with my girls. This pregnancy was weird because I couldnt stand the smell of meat for a few months. Especially chicken or turkey. It's gone away now but I still dont really care for sweets that much when I use to be a sweets fanatic before.
With my first, I couldnt get enough salt, but after awhile everything started tasting salty, even the Sprite that I sipped every morning to help with the morning sickness. I lived on saltines, air popped popcorn with salt and no butter, and Kriegers french fries. They knew me as the pregnant lady who calls up and orders the french fries. Every DAY for 9+ months. Hubs would pick them up on his way home from work. I really didnt eat anything else, I was so sick.
With my son it was oranges. I would eat like 4 oranges a day.
Congrats!!! I've had different food aversions with each, and at times it changes daily. Can never handle hot tea, that's usually my first tip off that I'm pregnant. Now, with #4, I had to wait for DH to get home from work and taste test the butter cream before I could ice a cake I thought the icing tasted awful but couldn't figure out what went wrong. Glad I didn't dump it, he said it tasted just as good as usual. I'll buy food at the store thinking I want it only to wind up throwing it away because when I go to eat it I can't stand the thought of it and it goes bad before I come around. Have also thrown out quite a bit of meat (esp. ground beef) because I can't bring myself to cook it. My family has had a lot of pasta for dinner these days.
