What would you charge for these cupcakes? They are iced with bc and the cross is made of candy melts.

I charge $3.50 for an unfilled cupcake and would not upcharge (at that price) for the cross.

It's all relative to the area that you're in... so you might check out the prices of custom bakeries near you. For my area, I think 2.50 would be on the high end. I went into a custom bakery the other day and paid $2.00 for a regular cupcake with a handmade flower on it. If you can get people to pay $3.50, then by all means charge the $3.50...you deserve it!!

Charge the same as you would for a serving of cake. I start filled and decorated cuppies at $4.50 each. Unfilled and just a swirl would be $3.00.

You should see how much all your supplies cost then what you think you should add for labor. My husband started a spread sheet of all my ingredients and how much it would cost to make 2 doz cupcakes. Then he was able to find the price per cupcake. It is actually pretty inexpensive to make cupcakes. And like the others said above, your prices should be competitive with other bakeries and stores.

It may be not that expensive, but the labor is totally different... you don't just have to pour the batter into a pan and bake you have to fill multitudes of tiny paper liners with batter and bake. Then you don't just have to lay of icing and smooth... you have to lay icing on multitudes of tiny cakes and smooth each one. Then you don't just have to transport and set up one cake... you have to transport multitudes of small cakes and set them ALL up. It costs me no less to make cuppies than it does a regular cake and it takes me longer to do so.

That is why you shouldn't give them away.

I charge $2.50 for basic swirled..I may add a bit more for the cross like 50 cents.

Jeanne I totally didn't take that all into consideration. I was thinking "hmm I don't have to get the icing smooth.. this is MUCH easier"

That was BEFORE the tasting. Today I was in hell filling those stupid cupcake liners (and getting them to fit perfectly into my cupcake pan...not all liners are created equally I learned..) and making that 'perfect' swirl each time took time and patients.

Never again. Learn from my experience. A cupcake is the same damn time of work as a cake!!

Wow, I am amazed at the price of cuppies! I made some for a friend's party and was thrilled when she sent a thank you and gift certificate that equalled a $1.75 per cuppie. I thought she had over spent. I know it was a thank you, as I can't and don't charge, but I was quite happy. They are like the zoo animals in my pics.
