Does anyone know if we can get gelatin sheets in Canada? I am making a train for my son's birthday and I need something to use as a windshield as there will be a fondant Lego conductor in the train. I saw someone use a gelatin sheet for a car windshied and I think that's what I need to use. Can we get them here? Thanks!

You can! Try checking out some old-school type European grocery stores in your area. I don't know Winnipeg well, just Toronto. icon_redface.gif Here, there's an eastern-European neighbourhood (Polish, Czech) that has boxes of them in the stores. They just look like cardboard lasagna noodle-type boxes, about $3 for 20-40 sheets.

Also, I think the Bulk Barn might sell them?? Not sure, but a friend mentioned she bought some there for gingerbread house windows a few years ago? icon_wink.gif

If you have to resort to online shopping, there's some at www.goldaskitchen.com in Mississauga. Here's the link, though the package makes them seem much smaller and more square than the ones I've usually seen that look like long rectangular lasagna-noodles?? icon_confused.gif

Thanks so much for the information!! Love your icing by the way icon_smile.gif I'll check out Bulk Barn tonight!

Would anyone have any suggestions for making a clear "windshield"? I tried melting clear hard candies but they had too many bubbles and became cloudy.

I used to get more from Belle Cake & Candy but they have seriously reduced their retail end of the business - too bad because there's not a lot of options in Winnipeg! But I'll check anyway.

Apparently Safeway may sell them as well, under the brand name Knoxx...

I haven't been to Belle in a while, sorry about that

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions! I found the gelatin sheets from a German meat store (Portage Meats) and they are made by Dr. Oetker. Now if I can figure out how to use them on the cake...
