Hi Everyone,

I have learned so much from everyone here, I wanted to pick your brains one more time.

Tell me what your favorite cake related book,DVD learning tool is (except this site!).

I have ordered a few DVD so I am really looking for some good books that I can read while I am not super busy at my real paying job!

Thanks!
Katie

I really like Sharon Zambito's DVD. I have three of them.

What I really like about Perfecting the Art of Buttercream and Flawless Fondant is that it teaches you how to have a perfect base to your cake - like the ultimate canvas.

When your decorating surface has flaws...it takes away from the decorations on the cake. There are some beautifully decorated cakes here but when you see the photos up close, you notice all sorts of flaws (in buttercream and fondant) and then the cake just doesn't look so good anymore.

Thanks,

I have ordered some DVD's from Sugar Delites...(or my hubby is as a mothers day gift).

I am just looking to get the good ones without wasting time on the pointless!

But thanks for your reply!

Hoping this post goes both ways and tells me also what NOT to buy!

Katie

I have 2 of Sharons DVD's as well - perfecting buttercream and boxes & bows. I am also new to cake decorating and I found both invaluable!! I only have the few cakes that I've done posted but I used techniques from both right away with great results! The other books I've found very useful is Lindy Smiths - she does a step by steph photo tutorial of all the cakes in the books so you can replicate them and has lot's of great pointers for the basics of getting started as well.
I'm just now looking into Sugar Delights DVD's and I've preoreder Sharons topsy turvy DVD...Can't wait!!

For books I like The Essential Cake Decorating Guide and for figures I Can't Believe I'm Sculpting Clay Figures. Both were recommended by others on this site and are truly wonderful thumbs_up.gif

Best DVDs : All of Sharon Zambito's and both of Jennifer Dontz!! They both are so important!!

Sharon's Buttercream is the Best!! Her directions are clear and very easy to follow. Her Stacking DVD has saved me many times!! You just cannot go wrong with her DVDs!!

Jennifer Dontz's DVD are also imperative!! Her Chocolate Fondant, Candy Clay and Pearl Clay recipes are included and are worth the price themselves! The directions are so easy and clear. Ypu really feel confident after watching!! The tips she shares make decorating SOOO much easier and you are able to be clean and perfect!!

The GREAT thing about both of these ladies is that they not only have the best DVDs out there , but they are both constantly on call if you have any questions. It is amazing how they support their "Sugar Friends".

Ladies, if you want to buy only the best DVDs out there, PLEASE invest in these!!

THank you!
