Sort of a long story... my hubby & I were engaged in early October 2008, found out we were pregnant in early November 2008, had an original wedding date of May 9th 2009 but got married in February 2009 with a small ceremony. We're now going to be celebrating with our family & friends with a huge outdoor "wedding celebration" since we didn't get to celebrate with them in February. PS. The wedding cake was awful & disgusting . Anyhoo, at almost 7 months prego, I'm going to make my own wedding cake...which I've always wanted to do Which brings me to my question....since we're doing an outdoor theme I'd like to do some birch tree stumps with our initials carved into the stump inside a heart. On the cake I'd like there to be naturey (is that a word?) things like mushrooms, ferns & vines and some pine cones. How would you go about making edible pine cones?
I JUST happened to be looking at a cake by cc member merissa...and she had some pinecones on a cake...you might ask her how to do them.

Another idea would be to form your shape with the chocolate paste, then use slivered almonds(sliced) and stick them into the cone at an angle to give it the real pine cone look.
you can form the shape with chocolate paste and then use rounded manicure scissors (new and clean) and cut the scales of the cone starting from the bottom going around to the top. snip, pull down a bit, snip and pull down a bit...repeat
The manicure scissors idea works really well. I like the idea of almond slivers too (as long as there are no nut allergies). Congrats on the wedding and the baby! Oh how your life will change!
