Gross was being at a restaurant and getting egg shell in my BLT sandwich... There was NO EGG on the sandwich, so I'm sure this wasn't "cooked in". I found it before I ate any, as I was arranging all of the stuff on the sandwich so I could eat it. Now how did THAT get in there?

I always crack my eggs in a bowl, not directly into the mixer - you know why? Because one time I got some shell in an almost finished cake and had to chunk it... It's not unheard of in any baking environment.

I smell a pot stirrer...

To the OP..(and everyone)..read this to find out what the FDA/CFAN says about certain particles found in your food..and the percentage allowable..like 'Insect Filth", "Rodent Filth" and "Mold".

I'm sure the OP did it on purpose just to stir things up. It's a no brainer that many of us here are home bakers and that it would offend many people They are probably laughing their a$$ off right now reading this.

Time to move on......there's much better things to be doing with my time.

Once my mother found a dirty paper towel in a factory sealed bag of potato chips. She took it back to the store and they let her exchange the bag for one without a paper towel.

On another occasion my husband found a piece of metal chain in his Krispy Kreme donut. They sent a representative to our house to pick up the chain. Oh, the rep brought my husband a new box of donuts.

By the way, no one actually ate the paper towel or metal chain. tapedshut.gif But stuff that really shouldn't does gets into food. We as humans are obviously a tough lot or we would have died out a long time ago.

I laugh at the eggshell in your cake. icon_biggrin.gif

I don't know about the rest of you, but I find that using egg shells instead of nuts in a recipe works out pretty good. It's cheaper, and you don't have to chop them up!
I wasn't going to say that, but my other voice threatened me if I didn't....
We do need to ignore these post that are negative, and I will start after today..... icon_razz.gif

I'm trying to think the last time I made a bundt cake that wasn't a pumpkin for Halloween or Thanksgiving. Anyways, I love reading about what everyone has found at one time or another in their food or what they saw while working at some establishment.

On another note, in high school one of the biology teachers soaked some Cheerios in water to soften them and then looked at them under the microscope. There were definite bug pieces seen.

Also there is a red food coloring called Carmine that gets it's color from dried beetle carcasses.

Nummy.

I think she accomplished what she wanted. Posting something to stir up trouble and get people in an uproar so she could sit back and laugh about it.
Now finger tips are gross! I remember when my dad had his meat market, he didnt have air conditioning and we would have to put candy bars in the fridge because you could open them up and see worms on them. I know gross!
My husband got a 2 for $2 burger at McDonalds one day. One had rodent poop on it. He got refunded his money and continued to eat the other. I did not eat lunch that day after he told me. I could of vomitted!
And, one of my favorite Chinese restaurants was just on the news about having a BIG problem with pests! Really can turn you off to eating out!!
But egg shell? Oh come on! How many times have you made potato salad or something like scrambled eggs and got a tiny crunch because you got an eggshell fragment in it? Gross? I dont think so. Its not like it was a bug or something. To me an eggshell is like forgetting to take a piece of leave off a stock of celery! Get real!!

My mother was addicted to Butterfingers. I stopped at a local convenience store one time and bought her a box of the mini ones. She opened them up and it was crawling with worms.

I took it back to the store and to their credit, the manager called the home office and they pulled them from all the stores.

Still munching on my Fritos BTW.

I'm a (licensed) home baker and am going to assume that the OP is intentionally trying to upset a grand chunk of this community. I know who I'll be sticking on ignore. icon_lol.gif

When I was on my food hygiene training I walked away with one nugget of information: always destroy any food you leave on your plate. My instructor said that when he was an inspector, the number of restaurants who he caught "recycling" food from previous customers was atonishing - and this was both upmarket establishments and little cafes. Bad food practices and inadvertent contamination can happen anywhere. I'd never leave my own kitchen if I decided to generalise my life away.

Hey, my dad works for Frito Lay and I can tell you what IS in your corn chips!!! Believe me, it is WAY worse than eggshell in your cake! icon_lol.gif

Oh man, Frito Lay Corn Chips are my absolute FAV!

And you think egg shells are gross....perhaps you should only eat stuff you make...no matter where you buy from, you have the chance of getting something in your food that isn't supposed to be there. I try not to think what restaurant cooks do your food while they are preparing it.

I worked at Red Lobster when I was a teenager. There was this guy in the kitchen that prepared a lot of food. He was NASTY. One time I walked back there and while he was preparing those rolls we all love so much, there was a huge slimy snotty booger dripping out of his nose and hanging off his upper lip. --- and right underneath it was the bowl of roll mixture....GROSS!! I swear, after that moment, I never ate anything that guy touched! I heard once his top teeth fell out and landed in the rolls. He took them out, rinsed them off, put them back in his mouth and proceeded to make the rolls. NOW that is something to be grossed out about, not egg shells.

I looked at a few of OP's previous posts...and she doesn't seem like she usually starts drama.

I just wonder, why would she start now, and with such an offensive comment to boot? I just think it's weird.

By the way...I am always getting nutshells in stuff...I love the big bags of shelled pecans and stuff at the store but I am always biting into shell pieces.

West Coast of Florida (where I am) is about half an hour south of Venice.

From what I understand, the title Mangrove Coast begins a little North of Venice and extends South to around Naples and is called that because of all the mangrove trees, which are protected. You can't even trim them without a special permit.

My friend's son bought a house south of Port Charlotte on the water and had a bunch on his property. He cut them down so he could get a clear view of the water. Someone turned him in and he got in some major trouble; huge fines.
