So my local cake decorating store started selling Fondarific Fondant and honestly when I was buying supplies today I looked at it and then put it down when I seen it was $2.00 more expensive than Satin Ice...............but OMG this stuff is so good.
When I completed my purchases the store owner gave me a couple of samples and I have to say it is the most amazing fondant I've ever tasted - the grape reminded me of starburst candy and the buttercream tasted like buttercream. icon_lol.gif

My question is.....has anyone used it? Does it roll out and smooth nicely?

Seriously, on taste alone I'm thinking of switching! I mean check out all the flavors!

I just saw this fondant tonight for the 1st time and am very excited about trying it out! It might cost more than satin ice, but considering that when I use SI I have to mix it 50/50 with Wilton fondant to get it to roll out without cracking or elephant skin or tearing, that I think it will be well worth the money. The website I saw it at offers a sample pack of 12 flavors for $6.99 and free shipping. A 2 lb. bucket was only $11.99 I think. So I am going to order some and see for myself. I have too much SI stockpiled for a huge wedding cake in late May and have to use it, but if this other works out like they say, then that will be my fondant of choice in the future. Can't wait to see what others have to say about it!

Try contacting them through their website and see if they have any stores near you that carry it. I was lucky and just happened upon a website for a shop in the city I grew up in which is only about 2 1/2 hours away and since I go home at least once a month I can now go to their shop and pick it up when I am down there. But shipping from there to my home was only about $10.00, so not bad for me if I have to order. But you can order from the main website too.

icon_eek.gif Would you mind giving me the link to that website? I may just have to order that sample pack and give those that get cakes from me some sample pieces, plus that would allow me to decide if I can work with it easier. The supply shop that carries it here said it actually rolls out easier than SI and it takes longer to get the elephant skin so I hope she's right. I'm with you, I wouldn't mind paying a bit more.

http://www.fondarific.com/ is the actual website for fondarific. It's the only fondant I've tried so far. I bought it because I wanted to do a specific design and I couldn't figure out how to do it with buttercream but my friend didn't like the taste of fondant. For my first attempt, I thought it was pretty easy to work with. Haven't started fondant classes yet, will start next month, so I'm excited to see what else I can do with it!

I love Fondarific so far. It is very pliable, and easy to work with. I think that it tastes the best that I have tried so far. The flavors are yummy! The orange tastes like a Creamsicle! I tried it at the Nation Capital Cake Show last month, and I will continue to buy this product, and never go back to the other brands.

Ladies, YES I have used it. YES I loved it. Here is my input (with the blessings of the owners) The fruit flavors are delicious and are great for accents. I would not use them for covering an entire cake but that is just me. If you want to color them be VERY carefull. All of the fruit flavors contain citric acid and I think that MAY have been what caused my issues but when taking the strawberry to a hot pink color the fondant got vary gooey and would not regain its elasticity. They are currently working on white with the fruit flavors but are not yet to that point. The buttercream is AWESOME and tastes just like my BC icing. The vanilla again is wonderfull. As for working with the product, You can roll it out with little or no PS or corn starch on the counter and go really pretty thin. My guests gave me rave results when I used it on the jungle cake in my pics. One thing I really liked is that when I put it on the cake and rubbed it I was able to get a very shiney finish I was very smooth and never cracked on me. The best thing I can say about Fonderific is that you will never get better cusomer service. Thses ladies are wonderfull and very eager to help you make your cake a total sucess. They run thier business the way compnies used to be ran in this country. They have earned my loyalty and I will never look back. I hope this answers all of your questions. If not, feel free to pm me.

BeeBoos - have you had any problems coloring the white - either vanilla or buttercream? Thanks for the great endorsement! I can't wait to try it. And of course my supply of Satin Ice is going to seem to take forever to use up because I want to try something else.

Not to knock SI, I love the way it feels - just like it's name, and it smells good too! I just can't get past the elephant skin issue and once you roll it out and it tears or gets elephant skin, then it's almost impossible for me to get it back smooth again without adding Wilton's fondant to it. And if you haven't tried it, SI works great in the Makin's extruder - no shortening needed (at least for me).

ptanyer, The jungle cake in my pics is done in the vanilla and colored. It took the color beautifully. The owner and I spent alot of time on the phone trying to figure out what the issue was when I tinted the strawberry. She says she does it all the time with no issues so maybe I did something wrong? I have allways wanted to try Satin Ice but I have never purchased any. By the way, those who want to order a sample pack of Fonderific, they will send you a tub with about 6 of whatever flavor they have onhand. Not all 12. If there is a particular flavor you want to try be sure you tell them. The chocoalte tastes just like a tootsie roll and the fruit flavors are just like a starburst.

I saw a thread a little while ago on here and tried it, and I love it!! I got a couple of sample packs, 2oz of each flavor so I haven't tried to cover a cake with it yet, but it tastes amazing!!!

The buttercream tastes great and it is amazing for covering cakes, but it is too soft for decorating (even ropes are difficult because it stretches).

They are based in Savannah GA, not sure if they have a store front yet here. I met the ladies at the ICES show in Orlando last year. I tasted samples, but did not purchase any. I don't do a lot of fondant covered cakes, so I haven't found a need to purchase yet. I will say that all the flavors are very good, I think it might be a bit overwhelming to cover a whole cake in one of the fruity type flavors. But the buttercream and chocolate flavors would be a very tasty treat.

I also have used it (first time this weekend!) and LOVED it!!!! Tastes great and rolling it out was a breeze! As was previously mentioned, you can roll it out thin, actually thinner than most fondant so it goes further. Also one thing that I love is that it doesn't dry out quick like fondant so you have more work time when putting it on the cake. That saved my butt this weekend when I was trying to cover a truck, those angles were a pain, but the Fondarific handled it beautifully! Great stuff!!!

My cake supply store just started carrying Fondarific last week. I am so excited! I usually make my own fondant, but last week I tried the Satin Ice (bought it a couple of days before they got the Fondarific in!). I had the same problems that others had with it - elephant skin, tearing, etc. I really want to try the Fondarific, but it was a little pricey. Especially compared to MMF. I'm glad to hear about a sample pack. That would be great. All of the colors and flavors are what got me. I'm glad to hear that it's easy to work with.

WOW, I'm so happy to hear it's easy to work with. I've got a very "angular" cake coming up and I was worried about handling the elephant skin issue with SI.

ptanyer, I with you...I'd never knock SI beacuse I use it all the time but it's not for everyone. I think from now on my cabinets are going to be stocked with both! icon_biggrin.gif If they don't like SI then I know I can reach for the Fonderific and they will enjoy eating the fondant instead of peeling it off and tossing it in the trash (such a waste).

We started using Fondarific after we met the ladies at ICES. It works especially quite well in the southern states because, being from Savannah, they designed the fondant to work in humid climates. I spoke with one of the owners last week. If you can get a group in your area to buy fondant, the prices tend to come down when ordering over 100 pounds. Also, for the buttercream and vanilla, you can have them color it for you in red, blue, green, yellow, and black. I was told that they hadn't gotten hot pink up yet and that they were experimenting with another color to be announced soon. As mentioned, the fruit flavors are better in small quantities. We went and melted the fondant and then dipped cupcakes upside down into the liquid fondant until they dried and formed a nice covering.

Sounds great haven't tried it myself. You guys are so lucky that sample pack sounds like an awesome deal!!! I think you guys are exposed to so much more than we are here in Aus!!!

I always make my own fondant, not that i am happy doing that just a hell of a lot cheaper. i noticed you guys talking about elephant skin and i experienced this the other night with my fondant....is that just from drying out? Is that the only cause or could have it been something else??? i had alot of elephant skin on a simple cake and i wasn't sure if it had something to do with the weather, the fact that the fondant was too dry to begin with or that it dried out while kneeding? is thta possible?

You are right, it is because it begins to dry fast. I try to cover my cakes as soon as I can after I roll it out and smooth the sides down quickly. It can also happen if it is rolled too thick.

I've tried the sample pack too, and it was DELICIOUS. Just cant justify the price, though. It's DOUBLE what I pay for Satin Ice (which I also love- just not so tasty). If Im going to spend THAT much on fondant, Im buying Massa Grischuna.

However, I am thinking of buying a few tubs of the flavored colors for my son's birthday party. I have no problem justifying the price when Im buying it for my personal cakes icon_smile.gif

Hey everyone...Fondarific just got a great thumbs up on the Ace of Cakes show "Lost". They used it to cover cakes shaped to look like beer cans and talked about how it didn't dry out and they could use it to cover the cakes. It looked great and I just can't wait to get my hands on my samples and see what happens. Anyone else try it lately?
