For some reason I cant access Utube to watch it to see what your talking about. But I have a silpat which is a non-stick mat that goes on baking sheets and great for doing sugar work. Is that what your talking about?

I was wondering the same thing. If you're talking about Silpat, yeah, I've got four. Wouldn't be without them.

Yep, silpat's are wonderful! Just don't use any cutting device on them!

I think you're talking about a CelBoard.

I think it's a non-porous surface that you use for rolling out gum paste or fondant. I dont have one because I have marble counter tops, so I just use that. I think it would be worth it if you didnt have solid stone counter tops.

Yes, I love Silpats!! And Celboards can be found number of places. I really like the one I got from Creative Cutters. Its not the small spongy ones that you normally see but a big square that has some give to it. I also was told by my friend Jen that using the kneeling pads for gardening work just as well!

LOL, lots of confusion in this thread.

Silpat: silicone baking mat with many wonderful uses.

CelBoard: like a small plastic cutting board on which you can roll out fondant and gumpaste. There are three versions, with various lengths and numbers of grooves. When you roll gumpaste out over the grooves, the grooves allow us to thread wire into the gumpaste for creating individually wired leaves and petals.

CelPad: spongy, thick foam mat used for thinning and ruffling petals. One version also has holes for working on Mexican hat flowers.

Get all three! I find all three things indispensable.

I'm thinking the OP is refering to the CelBoard I believe Edna uses it for both her rose and calla lily tutorials.

OOps. I meant to say Celpat not celboard! Yah, a celboard is a hard surface and usually has grooves for doing leave veining in it. I have one of those too! But the celpat I was referring to is spongy, white and about 8x8 in size. Bigger than the normal ones you get.

I think you're trying to say celpaD. As in it's a pad of foam. icon_smile.gificon_wink.gif

I have a white one like you described that is full of holes for JEM cutters. Is yours solid? It's spongier than the actual name brand CelPad and I really like it but have only seen the one full of holes.

Sorry to be such a dumb dumb, but where do you get silicone mats? I have heard a lot of people talking about them but I haven't seen them for sale.

Oh gosh, they're quite popular...Bed Bath and Beyond sells them, lots of online kitchen stores, Amazon.com, etc. Here's the link to Amazon.com ~ every once in awhile they will put them on sale for dirt cheap: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=silpat&x=0&y=0 Amazon is also having a 4-for-3 promotion (buy 4 items, get the lowest priced item for free) and the Silpats and Exopats qualify.

Silpats have texture on the bottom which transfers to fondant, so if you want to get one specifically for rolling fondant, Ateco makes a big one: http://www.globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=20786

Yah, sorry! Im bad at typing lately!! I meant the D not the T!!
And the Silpat actually has it written in big dark letters. I have one that is white and tan and then another that is orange and tan.
The white board I have, has no wholes on it. Its about an inch thick and doesnt have the spongyness as some of them. It reminds me sort of those foam pillows that leave the dent or finger marks on them but it actually doesnt leave the marks like the pillow!

I first saw them being used by Martha Stewart when she was on FN (before the jail time). And went out and bought them. Then found out that a lot of pastry chefs use them for doing sugar also. Their expensive ($20 a piece) but well worth it because Ive had mine now for probably 12 years? and use them ALL the time!

is there an alternative for celboard like the one edna uses? She mentioned tiles? I just want something that my gumpaste or fondant won't stick to.

How about a marble cutting board, if you go with the tiles make sure they are smooth, unless you want to use the grooved ones for a design icon_lol.gif .

I had one that was really large years ago and got rid of it in one of my moves because I thought it was to heavy. Man, do I regret that decision now.

I've seen them at places like Crate&Barrell and other kitchen stores (minds a blank as to the name right now icon_redface.gif ).

Maybe google them?
