This is it, it's really going to happen. Signed papers last Thursday and picked out flooring today. The city is waiting on mechanical drawings for one more permit that we should have by next week, and then the plumber and everyone else will be all over it. It's all contractors who are also customers of ours (DH's business), so they're getting right on it and giving us really great deals.
I'll post pics of COURSE when I have anything new to show, but nothing right now except the building itself, which is gorgeous. We bought the downstairs end shop further to the left in the picture. Check it out...
....It still hasn't really sunk in yet...

Whew, lots of hard but fun rewarding work ahead I'm sure. Looks like you have a fantastic shop. Blessings to you and please keep us posted. And of course, I'm jealous too!

This place looks awesome! Definately a great start to making a beautiful bakery. I sure hope you post pictures of the process and completed space.
So happy for you.
Oh thanks so much you guys...I was out all day running errands and came back to all this...love!
The building really is gorgeous, and it's very upscale inside, big stone entryways with a fountain and a granite bathroom and everything.
I'm mainly focusing on weddings and (some) special occasion cakes for now, but I'm not against the idea of branching out into desserts, like dessert tables for receptions and parties, etc., since I love to bake but can't really do it for just us or we'd all look like Mrs. Claus around the house! For now, though...just mainly weddings...It's appointment only, so I can just...work!
The inside will be very different--not your basic "bakery" frilly-dilly look; I don't do frilly...so the consult area will be black (or white?) floor, round black table, black and ivory leather chairs in a very mod/retro style, silver and mirrored tables, and my favorite green on the walls, with black and white prints, and a lovely inside (not in the sun!) inset sort of area on one wall that is about 2' deep and 10' wide, PERfect for displaying shelves of dummy cakes. I can't wait to get started on THOSE...I want to have some really fun stuff there. Kitchen area is all stainless, concrete, and white cabinets with a tan/white/green marble-look counter, and an apple green mixer, just for fun, and hopefully some green walls if they let me have color in there. Everything's piled up in my garage waiting to get installed, and the fridge and Bodgett are shipping next Monday.
I have to go shopping for the "finish" goodies later this week or next (food storage, soap dispensers, pot holders, coffeepot, all the little things I keep forgetting about).
Anyhoo...everyone's raring to get started, so as soon as the city signs off on the drawings, they should be done in about 10-14 days. And yes, definitely I'll post pictures!!
Thanks again for all the good will...I really appreciate it!
Stef
If they say no to color, or if you haven't approached them about painting in color, you might suggest you'll paint it the color of their choice before leaving the premises. Not that you'll be leaving but for their peace of mind (and maybe an accent wall only will help with convincing). If it's still a no, you can hang fabric panels which can add color & easily replaced. And if you're a bargain shopper you can probably find it in a clearance section. Just trying to help a girl out b/c I am a color lover too!
The color in the kitchen is more up to the Health Dept--they said everything has to be washable and "light" colored...
