I have a request for a cocktail inspired cake for a 21st birthday. I'd love to go crazy on it because it there's potential for something really cool in that idea, but it's "on a budget." I don't mind working within a budget these days, but it limits what I can do. Can anyone think of a simple design. I'm leaning toward carving a sheet cake into a martini glass (laying flat), frosting in buttercream, and decorating a cupcake like an olive to stick threw a skewer at the top of the cake. Maybe a cosmo instead with a cherry instead of an olive. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What about something like a drink menu? Funky colours, different types of drinks listed (maybe some not so common drinks)....kind of what you would find in a martini bar.

What about something like a drink menu? You could do it on a sheet cake with funky, bold colours, different types of drinks listed (maybe some not so common drinks) ....kind of what you would find in a martini bar.

sorry for the double post

I have seen some posts on this site where they made margarita glasses out of modeling chocolate or out of chocolate melts. They were then set on top of a cake!! They were really cute....

You might do a search on here for "margarita" to see what comes up......

Carve a couple of stacked layers into a rocks glass shape. frost with buttercream to resemble your favorite drink (a light chocolate would resemble a white Russian, etc) use unflavored gelatin in the same way you would to make jello ligglers, but clear. Use some of this to make over-sized ice cubes. Pour some into a greased, rimmed cookie sheet to make a thin (1/4 to 1/3" thick) sheet of clear, sturdy jello. Cut this to the size that would allow you to wrap the sheet completely around the side of the cake, with a small (1") lip rising above the cake. Make a couple of white or pink chocolate cigarettes to stick in as straws.

I have no idea if this will work, practically speaking. But it was an idea that popped into my head.

I recently got a request for a 21 themed cake with perhaps a bit of a beach theme. I came up with doing a coconut drink where the coconut is the cup with whipped cream on top, straw, flower, and some fruit garnish.
