I had a sheet of plywood cut down into the sizes I need. I was using the cardboard, but got tired of having cracks in my smooth BC when the cakes were picked up/delivered. Since I do cakes for friends and family only, it isn't that big a deal for me to get them back. What boards do you use that lend enough support to keep them from bending and cracking your cakes?

I have used ply for big heavy cakes, but got it from homedepot and got it cut from there for an extra 25 cents. but where do u get them cut round?

I think the bulk of the boards we all use go under each layer so that's what I'm mostly referring to. Under a whole cake I use 3 boards together or go for the plywood if the cake is large enough. At Lowe's they have 16, 18, and 24(?)" circles already cut.

My father has a wood working shop. He cuts all of my boards for me. He is the best.

Oh . . Sorry I guess I missed that one. I just wondered if there was an especially thick or sturdy board that you all used for your cakes, specifically the 11x15 or 12x18 rectangular ones.
Do you all do the same? 3 of the regular cake boards put together for your base?
We get ours from Ben E Keith and they are satin sealed and don't absorb grease! Love them !
I use logicpic boards because they're pre-drilled with a hole in the center, 1/4" thick polyestyrene that is sanitizable and re-usable, and they will NOT flex, plus they don't need covered with anything, AND they come in every shape imaginable, ready to go. They're not cheap, though, so I try to get them returned, but the convenience is so worth it.
They make a nice 1/2" board for underneath, also any shape, so I just wrap a ribbon around that and go. Also...not cheap, but returnable.
If you have a business account, you can get them from CK Products...We use them for a lot of our supplies.
I have ordered them from intotheoven.com before, mostly because I hate cutting squares and they normally have them. Most of the time I get Wilton ones at WalMart or at the craft store.
I had no idea they made square cakeboards! I always moan and groan about how someone should make them, every time I have to cut a rectangle board down to size. Thank you so much for letting me know. And plus, I love Into the Oven.

i get 1/2 sheets 12 inch rounds and full sheets at sams...they are super cheap...i got 50 1/2 sheets for 8 bucks.
