Marvel, I'm going to be the odd one out here I think, I like the first design! :D
I love it. It has an accessory to represent each of the princesses, including a sugar 'glass slipper'. Seen them done online and they look so effective. I'm going to have to do it as a dummy. I can't not!! ;)
AGreat nanny! I've a few cakes due in the next two weeks but I'm sure I can spare an afternoon! :D
Now we just need to rope in Tiddy and see when Maisie is doig her trip!
AMorning all. :-)
I found your recipe roxy. I say "found" like I didn't know where it was and had to hunt for two hours when all I had to do was click on private messages and there it was! Thankyou. :-) You sound very busy, I wish I had your energy!
Next Monday is looking the best day out of those for me nanny. This Wednesday would be better but my mam is borrowing the car that day. Never mind, it gives me longer to make a list and not forget to add anything.
I'm off to do some cleaning now, roxy has inspired me (put me to shame!).
Morning all! looks like you've all been very busy look at all those lovely cakes! Why do they never pick your fav Marvel??!! that happens to me all the time!!!!
I am getting itchy fingers too Maisie :) I haven't done a cake in ages!! I might have to break out the dummys :)
I got a nice baker to do my cake for me and everyone seem happy - phew - and now I appear to be able to sleep again.... sheesh I worry too much sometimes!!!
AMorning All!
Currently in the middle of a batch of emergency cupcakes (last minute order yesterday!) but nipping on to try and keep up!
Thanks for the lovely comments on the cookies! I love doing RI cookie decorating, would love to do more though! I looove SweetAmbs on YouTube, she's amazing, soo perfect. I really must get booked on an RI course this year though as I really want to get to grips with it properly. What are you doing on your cookies Suzanne?
Kuuushi hope your cake came out ok this morning! I always start checking mine early, but if I'm not sure when i take one out, I listen to it. Sounds nuts I know, but if I take it out and it's still 'squeaking' a lot, I pop it back in for a minute or 2.
Ooh yay to the tweet reply Marvel, so cool when 'celebs' answer you isn't it LOL! I had Amazing Wedding Cakes on all yesterday morning while I was prepping lunch :) I too feel the pain of the budget cut cake decisions, so many fab designs I've done that were too much for people, such a shame! You should do it as a dummy though!
Nicola, yikes to the scruffy display cakes! That's awful PR for her, just shows that she clearly doesn't really worry about presentation - which is kind of crucial!
Right, ovens beeping better get on!

Just had another look at both designs Marvel, i'm with Maisie, like the 2nd one, kinda neat.
Loubee, your cakes look lovely, do you think I would get the same colour with red extra?
I can't see why not nanny, when I was googling when originally bought the paste both Christmas Red and red extra where the ones that came up time and time as giving the best red colour.
Roxy I'm glad angel got off ok and I hope the weather improves for them all. Out of interest was the trip expensive? My 11 year old came back with two letters from school on Friday for two residential trips - one was for 5 days in France canoeing and water based things in July for £800 I was like wow I can get a holiday for a family of 4 in August for a few more hundred, safe to say he's not going on that one especially as I think he's too young to go on one abroad involving all them water based things I wouldn't feel comfortable. The second trip is in December to Tower Wood which is near Lake Windemere and that's for 5 days to for £300 which again I think its a bit pricey but we're going to let him go.
A
Oooh exciting!
AYep, Monday fine but can't be the afternoon as John needs the car to pick Ioan from school .
Hi people - just saw this on my FB newsfeed from the BSG
Problems with your icing? Tate and Lyle have recently changed the type of anti-caking they used in their icing sugar from 1.5% E341 (Calcium phosphates) to 3% maize starch. Please advise the Tate & Lyle customer service department of any problems you have with the new formular (sic)/
Unfortunately I think my problems are operator related rather than product related!

Hi Mel - do you subscribe to Paul Bradford? THis weeks course is Ceri Griffiths doing beginners Royal Icing. That said, your cookies are so lovely you are probably needing an advanced course rather than a beginners.
Are you entering/attending the POC cake competition in May?
AI can probably be there between 10 and 11, I'll have to be away by about 2.45 to get back in the traffic for Leah.
I meant to ask how your cake was too Kuuushi.
Loubee that is expensive, I can't remember how much my sons was now, it was 9 or 10 years ago. It was enough that they needed a £100 deposit and offered us a payment plan tho. The water one sounds a bit worrying for me too, I'd say the second one is much better at his age. One if Leah's playscheme workers is involved with a charity that takes disabled kids to Lourdes every Easter, she wanted to take leah last year, I got as far as letting them come to the house to tell us more about it, bring paperwork etc, I answered the door and said "I'm sorry for wasting your time, come in and have a cuppa tea by all means but she's not going". If I'd realised beforehand I would've cancelled the meeting, I knew I had reservations, I hadn't said yes, only that I'd need to know more about it and think about it but as soon as I opened the door I just blurted it out! Loads of kids from her school have gone, nothing bad has ever happened, her teachers think there's something wrong with me refusing a free trip but I can't help it, I went with my gut. Sometimes, when you're undecided it's the best thing to do isn't it.
Gray you must be really relieved, I'm glad you've got someone else for your cake. I think worrying too much only shows how much you care. :-)
AWow it's funny you should say that Kathy CIA asda only sell whitworths sugar now and I don't like it. I won't buy it unless I have to. My mam thinks I'm mental, she thinks sugar is sugar and it's all in my head but I only like silver spoon.
Maisie let me know what the chocolate cake turns out like if you try the recipe, I've not got round to trying that one yet.
Loubee £800 that's a lot for a school holiday. Angel's disneyland trip was only £180 for 3 days though they only get one day in the park.that included travel by couch and euro train, travel insurance, hotel and breakfast , tea at the hotel for one night and tea at the planet hollywood restaurant the other night and the park ticket.
Right I'm of to the pictures with Mr Roxy, we are going to an early showing with being up early and he has to get up for work at 2am.
ALadies anytime in Monday is okay with me!
My cake actually turned out amazingly! It's softer than usual too so I think I may adjust my time of baking because it turned out beautiful!
Just about to go cover it now!
Kathy, do you know what I was going to ask on here if anyone had noticed a difference! The last couple of boxes I've bought haven't 'clouded' up nearly as much when making buttercream as normal. Doesn't seem to be a bad thing from that perspective, but its a bu88er to sieve - normally I just tap, but I have to stir it through with a spoon now :/
Eek red velvet - getting flashbacks of the giant 10" x 20" cake I did before Christmas. I have to say I am not a fan - can you imagine how much colour I needed to add - bleurgh!! I used Red Extra to try and cut it down a little, but I still shudder at all that colouring......!
Gray, glad you've got the cake sorted for your customer, one thing you can tick off your list! How are the China plans coming along?
Lynne I haven't signed up to PB yet, I mostly buy Craftsy classes, but only when I can find links that make them £12.50 LOL! I was meant to be going on Ceri's class that he was going to run at APOC last year but it got cancelled last minute - v annoying! I hadn't thought about entering their comp though, what about you? :)
Cuppies are all done, just tidying up (ha ha or meant to be, bit harder from the PC...!) then off to deliver.
Oooh hope it goes well Marvel - is that the one where you heat the sugar up? I've chickened out of that version (me and boiling hot sugar = accident waiting to happen!) and have only ever done SMBC twice.
MBC's are lovely, but it just seems like more effort/ingredients, and I'm not sure I trust the stability, its soooo light!! Fab for cuppies though :D
AMaisie I completely understand about not sending Leah to Lourdes, you have to feel a hundred per cent happy with them going away otherwise you would spend the whole time worried sick. At the end of the day they are our children and we do what we think is best for them.
Roxy wow that is such good value for the trip, you are getting so much for your money. I would have gone to for that price. Lol.
Glad your cake turned out great Kelsey. Looking forward to a picture of the finished product.
Gray glad you got your cake dilemma sorted, that's a load off your mind.
Marvel good luck with your IMBC, I'm a wimp I've only ever made buttercream and ganache. I like the easy option.
I've spent the afternoon going between studying and looking at frozen cakes for my niece. I've sent my sister so many designs and she's not decided on one yet, she's sent me two blurry pictures that I can't even make out. I'm sat at Riya's swimming lesson at the moment so going to have another Google now. There's just so many designs out there.
ALook at this loubee, it's one of the lovliest frozen cakes I've seen. I love olafs expression, she's recreated a scene from the film and I think it's brilliant. Way beyond me but brilliant.

Hello you chatty bunch!
Just finished my latest cake - took longer than it should have done, but oh well. I'm trying to build up a bit of a portfolio so hopefully will try out some wedding cakes soon. (Oooooh, and chocolate mudcake looks gorgeous - I'll have to try that one very soon! )
Lizzy, thank you so, sooooooo much for the tip about putting a baking tray on top of the tin for an even rise! I tried it out for this cake and it worked wonderfully . Hadn't got a baking tray which covered the whole of the 10" tin, so I put the next size up tin upside down on top - hence it's now being called the "Tintin" method here .
Looking forward to seeing what the Welsh contingent come up with for that competition! Lots and lots of daffodils pleeeeeeease
Loved the sweet pea cake a few pages back - wonderfully feminine
Someone's probably already mentioned it, but Craftsy have a sale on ending today.
Anyone know how good either of these classes are? www.craftsy.com/class/simple-skills-for-dramatic-designs/4943?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=18&rceId=1424109980535~f5heeorh www.craftsy.com/class/building-better-cakes-creative-cake-separators/2875?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=6&rceId=1424110039639~9ednw3ac

Not good enough Mel! Wouldn't dare put any of my flowers in front of the master of flowers Alan Dunn. The other categories are a bit "Goosey Loosey". I will go to have a look though. If you are going give me a shout.
I finally managed to upload this picture on my own laptop....using Google Chrome....it feels like a very slow browser...I made these for Saturday. Lemon sponge with lemon buttercream and my first attempt at sp/flowerpaste toppers. Not very imaginative...but they tasted nice....and my piping under the toppers could have been neater...as seen in the top 2 of this picture.
Wow to that heart shaped cake Victoria :)
The Frozen cakes look quite intricate...I keep thinking of buying some snowflake plungers.
AOoh I love that one Maisie, that's so detailed!
Love the valentines cake Victoria, the texture is fab, very indulgent looking! I haven't tried either of those classes so can't help I'm afraid! One tip though, check out the instructors Facebook or blog pages for any classes you like the look of, quite often they have different discount links that normally knock the price right down, sometimes lower than the sale! I just bought the Arranging Sugarflowers class, hoping it will help me get to grips with making proper looking arrangements :)
