god, I completely missed that about Leah's school Maisie, that's awful. No wonder she was off colour.

I seriously think you need to register as a business. Honestly, even if you don't want to do it properly, for the sake of a couple of hours doing the basic food hygiene 'exam' (common sense more than an exam!), registering with HMRC (doing my taxes took about an hour, and that's because I was triple checking everything to make sure it was ok, even though I'm nowhere near actually paying tax) and possibly having EH round, you could at least charge a few quid if you want to make a cake. If you don't want to charge then don't, but if you do you have the option to. Win win

I used vanilla jello instant pudding Kathy. You can get it from Ocado and Amazon all the time, but I think Tesco do it now too in their international aisle. You can sub custard powder apparently, but I've not tried it.

Siany's idea of edible images is brilliant, and if you need them to be solid you can just glue them onto modelling paste/pastillage and leave it to dry out for a couple of days. Argh, that's just reminded me, I needed to make some Minnie ears yesterday :-o

Sweetapolita's red velvet recipe is lovely Siany, it's on her blog.

Spireite, I think your idea of the peony on top sounds lovely. They're such a pretty flower, they can't help but look gorgeous on a cake!

Mud cake is perfect for home and delicious with ganache chezzabelle. Try sianys fudge cake tho, no cracking issues with that one I don't think. Is there Siany?

Can't help with red velvet Siany, if nobody here has a recipe ask the Americans, they'll have one. I did read on FB there's the waldorfs recipe online somewhere, some say it's where red velvet originated, some disagree. They were having a right old ding dong about it.

Edible images, excellent idea, you could put them on their own sugarpaste backing for easier removal and less chance of the colouring being eaten Kathy.

Can Siany please post the recipe for the fudge cake

Hi all :D

Sorry I've been away so long seem to always be mad busy the last few weeks with one thing or another., I have no chance of catching up so I'm not even gonna try, have looked through the cake pics though and they are all superb as always.

Hope everyone is well, and happy birthday to anyone I might have missed while I've not been on.

Angel breaks up from school tomorrow, it was suppose to be friday but there is a teacher training day now so they finish tomorrow. She is going to disneyland paris with the school on monday until wednesday. I have just been to change her money so just have to check through her suitcase tomorrow and make sure she has everything ready.

There you are Kathy, Gray has the answer right there. They are lovely cakes, so, old fashioned in a nice way, does that make sense?

Aw, you will miss your friend then Kathy, nice place for a visit tho lucky you.

I have a bundt tin too bought it last yr in TKMax, I made something last yr, it was lovely, plain type of cake with an orange glaze, mmm.

I bought one from tk maxx well over a year ago but I still havent used it. You sound as busy as ever nanny which is great. The afternoon tea and hotel stay sound lovely get them booked. I've always wanted to go for afternoon tea but I've yet to go.

Does anyone have a good red velvet cupcake recipe? Got an order for some for June, I'll look online but hoping one of you would have a tried and tested one? Tia

I want to make red velvets this weekend as a Valentine's treat so may give the hummingbird bakery recipe a go as I've got that book somewhere in my vast collection.

Jean I love the wafer flowers you did, the White one was my favourite, sorry im no flower expert so don't know the proper name for that particular one. Also hope you're daughters feeling okay now.

Maisie how terrible for Leah and everyone at her school, it's understandable that she'll be feeling a little down.

Gray im sure you're customer will be thrilled with all the options you've offered.

Also sorry can't rememer who asked about the fondant toppers but i just do pure fondant and place it on top of the buttercream although I try to place them on as last minute as I can do that the buttercream doesn't soak into them too much which can happen sometimes.

AAwwww how sad for leah maisie, terrible thing to happen, hope she's ok now?

Yes, Celtic Manor is booked, we didn't want the weekend, had to be a week which i'm off for 2 days, got a Superior room apparently, with 3 course meal, use of all facilities and brekkie, don't mind if I do. It was for John's 60 th last yr.

Glad your happier with it Siany, I do understand that, if I had more time on Mon I probably would have redone the dreaded strips.

Just had an order for a two tier for the end of March, one plain, one with sprinkles. Got a busy March ahead of me, happy days.

AMade the cupcakes, I always leave it till last min to put my toppers on too, so will do that before work tomorrow.

Just made my double decker bus from Rice Krispies, strange looking thing at the moment, hope it looks ok when done, she only wanted me to make Blakey off on the buses too, no chance, kinda told her there wouldn't be room, as there's 6 cupcakes going on the board too.

Lizzy, what a fab order! Yeh, I'd be inviting complete strangers just to get to 200.

Maisie, poor Leah. Even though she's a young mind, she knows what death means. Poor thing. Mia's fine, she's coughing at night but really quite fine even then. She's been to school everyday this week and she's looking forward to tomorrow's 'Funky hair day' to raise money for the school. You could think of a different design for your giant cupcake- loads of nice looking ones on pinterest, that way it's the same kind of cake, but completely different design :)

Siany, I can't help with the red velvet, I failed with previous attempts 8O

Roxy, how exciting for Angel! Is it her first trip away from home?

Er, who asked about cupcake toppers? Spierite? Just use regular SP. Make it at least 4mm thick otherwise they break if you press them (from my experience!!). You can just place it on top of buttercream.

Nanny, can't wait to see your latest cakes. What's Blakey?

Yes that's me....I might have a play on my day off tomorrow....

I've just been surfing on ebay looking at peony cutters...I'm thinking metal ones...but do I need ALL the different sizes or just 3 or 4? Also some of them are kind of heart shaped rather than just fluted with a splayed edge...I'm not sure which way to go....any advice?

Back to work today after 11 days off...and prior to that I was on a study week for 1 week...so I've been off my ward for 2 and a half weeks....luckily I wasn't nominated to being charge today, but I had a lovely shift working with my 1st year student, and got away on time too :)

spierite, I think they're to do with different kinds of peonies, although I'm not that sure. Just depends on the look you want to achieve in the end, super frilly or less so.

Also when I made my sugar peony I only used 3 cutters. You'll want the fourth and largest cutter for VERY big peonies :)

Hi Petitecat no it's not Angel's first trip away she went away for a couple of nights with brownies when she was younger and for a couple of nights in the last year of primary school, It is her first time abroad without me though I have taken her to disneyland paris five times myself so she knows the place like the back of her hand lol.

Is your daughter poorly? hope she gets better soon. Have I missed her birthday and the frozen doll cake?

Maisie I hope Leah is doing ok that is so sad for her.

Tiddy What has happened to Betty hope she is ok.

Nanny is this the bus cake the woman asked about the other week when you were at work?

AI can't imagine a 13 year old liking On The Buses - I didn't know they were repeating it but I saw one a little while ago and I couldn't believe how it used to be peak viewing. Blakey used to go in a pub I frequented in the 70s and you would walk past him in the street. Funny what people ask for in a cake sometimes. I am looking forward to seeing the bus though.

Petitecat I hope Mia isn't coming down with something, I can't wait for the frozen doll cake either.

Nanny looking forward to the bus cake, a bit unusual for someone that age to be into on the buses.

Tiddy glad to hear Betty is ok though I missed what was wrong with her in the first place, how's Mr Tiddy now?

AWow so much to catch up on and as always I can't remember anything... Let's see...

Lizzy glad your rum cake turned out well, it looks delicious. You did make me laugh with setting your hob on fire though - in a most concerned sympathetic way of course.

Maisie that's sad news about the child at Leah's school I hope she's OK. I'm not surprised more people are asking for the cake you made your mum it was stunning. I've been asked for another curious George cake exactly the same as the last one too. There are so many more colourful and fun curious George cakes out there I'm not really seeing why people love this one so much! Oh well.

I've not had time to watch GBBO yet I'll have to try and catch up on that tomorrow.

Whoever was talking about mud cake, it is delicious. I think it was maisie who gave me her recipe and I tried it. Tastes amazing. I would definitely make it again for a family cake but I worry that because of its texture if I was to give it to someone else they would think it was uncooked.

My H2B asked me tonight if I was making him a valentines cakes. I wasn't planning on doing! We don't usually do much for valentines day, just something nice together but he did point out that he never gets a birthday cake made for him because his birthday is one week before Xmas and I'm always too busy. So now I'm off to think of a valentines cake that isn't too girly... that can be made in 2 days... that I already have all of the stuff for... That isn't too 'fussy' but 'looks like I made an effort' (his words!) haha. The cheek!
