AOh no gray that's such bad news so sorry.

Are you sure she doesn't like making cakes? Haha You could have a cake empire between you. Or how about cooking? You could open a little cafe/cake shop. Being self employed seems to be the way to go these days. Maybe a pet sitter even? haha! Oh I really hope something comes along soon for her.

Thank's everyone you're so lovely :) I don't know what she'll do! she's been talking about teaching for a while..... but then so many people say teaching jobs are hard to come by now as well!! she's been working for shipping agencies for the last 10 years or so but the problem is with so little production there are very few exports and since manufacturers are making less they also don't need to import as many materials so she seems to suffer doubly! She's on the bus home now and seems in good spitits so I'm leaving early to meet her, see you all later :)

AHi everyone

Kathy I love the fact your related card transaction was dunelm mill... Mine probably would be too lol :-)

Gray that's sad for your wife, after the day I've had she can have my job with pleasure ! I work for a shipping company so she'll be well at home. I've decided that after 13 years of slogging my guts out and going nowhere fast it's time for a change. I'm going to start a job search closer to home.. littlest Field starts school in September so would be easier too. My boss has literally brought me to tears today and that's it I decided !!

Spireite what was the trip for ? Glad you enjoyed it :-)

Suzanne lovely compliment on your cakes you must be chuffed with that !

So, I've had a fairly good day!!!!

The customer who came to see me regarding her son's 4 tier wedding cake has now changed it to a 5 tier cake!! 8-O:grin:  Excited and nervous in equal measure!

Another customer who asked for a quote for a cake for her daughter's 7th bday cake, to feed 100, went ahead and booked!!

Unfortunately, I haven't done a single thing on Sunday's cake...  so I'll crack on with that after tonight's dinner things have been cleared away...  I need to get it marzipanned, covered and on the board tonight.  Tomorrow I'll cover the dummy rugby ball that's going on it and it's more or less finished then.

But I am so, so tired this evening.  I could fall into bed right now!!!  Am actually contemplating just marzipanning the cake.

ABlimey, miss a day and everyone's had massive news!

nanny, well done to Sarah!

Kathy, I hope Sophie finds something soon. Not hearing back socks.

Jo that's awful about your card! What a worry. Well done though on deciding enough is enough, it takes serious guts to just make that decision, so really well done. I would say, when you do leave and have your exit interview make sure you say it's due to your boss. Hubby had such an awful time at work with bullying (3 years of physical and mental from his director, who also happened to be the MD's bil) and we found out after he got him fired that no one cited him in their interviews as the reason for leaving (too scared due to his position, and didn't believe references were generic, which they are), even though we know he was the direct cause of several people leaving. It won't help you but it might help the next poor sod who takes your place.

Gray, I'm so sorry to read that, I hope your wife is ok as she can be.

Hey Kelsey :-) Glad to see everything's tootling along for you atm.

Nothing new here - had to ask tattoo music cake to give me a couple of days to get back to him as I can't concentrate due to feeling so cruddy. Put it slightly more professionally than that though :-D I'd just like to be able to hear for now. My ears have been blocked for so long they're starting to hurt :-( On the plus side I think hubby and I are going a bit doolally with the lack of sleep which is highly amusing. It's like our brains are having a bit of a laugh with us 'no, you can have a word that's similar to the one you need, but not similar enough that it makes sense, and that's all you're getting.'

AThanks Chezza, Nanny and Lizzy, i'm definitely done there's no easy way to sort the mess if I stay so that's that. I will probably take a pay cut to go elsewhere and won't necessarily get the nice hours that suit but I'm willing to start over to be happy. Not sure I'd ever make a successful business caking as I'm too slow so onwards and upwards!

Lizzy that's awful your poor hubby. People can be such tw@ts it really gets to me just grow up and get yourself in the real world instead of making others lives a misery ! Sorry to hear you are still unwell though poor you.. sending some sleepy hugs x talking of hearing my daughter has finally been referred to ENT tomorrow at a main hospital for a decision on her ears ...she's had glue ear since year r and been under local review but not got any better only worse. She went to bed crying saying someone at school told her if she had gromits her ears would burst ... bloody kids!

Lizzy, cross fingers you feel better soon.

Suzanne how exciting! 5 tiers!

I've been cutting up wafer paper to make flowers for another dummy cake. Boy is it boring!!! 1" 1.5" 2" and 2.5" circles, and no puncher! Just scissors :-o

AMorning all.

Chezza, even if I have one tin, I still bake it in 2 stages, I find it better for me, it takes longer but for me I know it always turns out fine.

Just do 2 lots of mixture but I always do a little more in each if that makes sense?

Hi Guys! I too have been AWOL and have been soo busy with everything!

In a way it's great, I've been inundated with beauty work, cake orders have been slow but steady and I'm trying yet again to lose weight! Hubby is getting slow and steady work with the photography too and hoping he can come out of full time work next year and work for himself!

I hope everyone has been happy and healthy and is doing well? I've missed you guys loads and I can't believe it's February already, it's crazy! xxx

Hi Kelsey lovely to see you and it's so great you're busy. Have you decided to stick with the cake and beauty then and not go back to your old job? Great news about your hubby and the photography too.

Hi Jo!  Long time no speak!  My card was cloned last year - however, HSBC intercepted it.  They ran through the list of expenses on it and the only one I could confirm was Dunelm Mill!  How boring is that!  Anyway, it was all good and I didn't get stung for anything.  My friend has an M&S credit card and to cut a long story short tried to buy something in M&S but her limit had been reached.  Her limit was over £3k.  Instead of thinking that something was wrong, she thought her husband had surprised her with a holiday!  Bless her.  I must say she was being optimistic there.  Her husband started to freak out (because he hadn't used it for months) and eventually they found out that somebody had bought £3,500 worth of wood flooring!  I think it's still ongoing but she had a bit of a bad time trying to get the funding returned to her.  Her husband eventually spoke to the flooring company and got a sympathetic person to keep them up to date with the situation.  All is good now thank heavens - but it's so common now.  Shocking really.

Barbara that's great news for Sarah.  Give her my congratulations.  My Sophie is currently applying for every job she can.  She's passes the online tests and then gets the Skype interview (which she totally hates) and then that's it.  I know it's bugging her badly.  She's obviously not coming across well on screen. What's made it worse is her boyfriend got a great job on his first interview.  Poor little thing hasn't even got to a proper interview yet.  She's such a hard worker too - I don't want it to affect her but I know it is.  So I'm really pleased when I hear that somebody gets the job they want.  Well done to her.

Hi Kelsey - I have been keeping up with you on the FB Cake Page Circle.  Saw your rainbow cupcakes - they were so colourful.  I'm glad you are busy - makes it all worth it doesn't it?  Glad your other half is doing well with his photography business too.

Oh Loubee - are you going to make your own cake then?  When I was 60 Sophie made my cake and it was such a thrill to have it made for me (in fluorescent layers!) and to see how far she had come on.

Kathy

Yes I'm going to make my own cake Kathy I always do, people expect it now, lol, I think o make it more for the visitors than I do for myself. The cake Sophie made for you sounds fab. Sorry to hear about the interviews as well Kathy, I'm sure Sophie will get her moment soon she sounds determined to succeed.

Jo well done on making such a brave decision, I'm sure you won't regret it and will feel so much better. Good luck in your job search.

Suzanne you sound as busy as ever. Looking forward to the finished cakes.

Gray sorry to here about your wife I hope she finds something else soon.

AMe three, I'm just investing in a load of silverwood sandwich tins so that I can do four layers at once. I really dislike doing two inch cakes with the recipes I use most.

Thanks Jo, it was awful. 6 months off with stress (he never takes days off), me worried about leaving him on his own. He's project managed multi million pound projects at NATS, run his own business building websites for a well known multi national company, all with pressure but all work related, and he was happy as Larry. He took this job to calm down a bit and found himself personally persecuted instead of just dealing with business pressure. Irony sucks. His old director is the only person in the world I actively wish harm on. Anyway, better out than in is what I'm trying to say, you've put up with it long enough - we only know you over the Internet for goodness sake and we can tell you're really unhappy there! You'll be much happier out of it, wage cut or not.

I'm getting a bit busy now, another Pandora cake, Minnie cake, charity cake all booked this week. I'd better start feeling more human soon!

AAh lizzy bless him. Glad he is all sorted now, and yes you do only know me over the Internet so it's hard to realise. I earn well for the job I do but it's not easy and I am only part qualified so the rest is experience. Which when people look at someone on paper they don't often take that risk of qualified by experience I suppose goes down to selling yourself at interview. Something I hate doing and am no good at ! We shall see..

Chezza hope the cake comes out ok. Interestingly enough I baked my first ever coffee and walnut cake last week and everyone loved it even my kids !!!

Loubee what cake you going to do for your birthday? X

Chezza, always check the seller's ratings before buying on ebay just to check how much and what kind of negative feedback they get. Nearly all sellers get negative feedback, but I always check to see what it's about- item description, delivery, etc. If I think sellers are generally ok, I'll buy from them even if they have negative feedback.

The thermometer in the link should be fine, but I've always used the candy thermometer from Lakeland. It attaches to the inside of my bowl when I make SMBC, so I just stir and watch the temperature. Not sure if that might be a more convenient kind of thermometer to get- so you don't have to keep taking the thermometer in and out of the bowl?
