Morning all. Nice ivy nanny - woke up for a catch up and now exhausted! Kathy

Lol Kathy it is like a marathon catching up sometimes. You think I'll have a five minute catch up and then half an hour later you're still writing.

I used candy melts Roxy although I've used chocolate in the past with no problems.

Morning all :)

I honestly don't know why I bother even coming to be bed lately I can't sleep at all,I'm even worse than I normally am. I'm off to town later on today to get the last few christmas bits I need so at least that will be another thing off my list. I've been so busy this year I've not even had a chance to make my christmas cupcakes.

Oh Maisie I will pop a pic of my tree later for Leah.

Oh no Roxy I bet you're shattered. Hope it's not too busy when you go shopping. I went yesterday afternoon to our local retail park it was busy but nothing too bad.

They do set quite thick the candy melts Roxy and I do prefer them as they're not as fragile, well they aren't if you make the shell thick enough unlike me last night because I was rushing. Lots of people on the Internet use chocolate for them as well though I think it's personal choice. The candy melts are easy enough to use, I just melt them like chocolate in the microwave, they do take longer to melt than chocolate though.

I am shattered Loubee I was up at 5 am yesterday because I couldn't sleep but then still couldn't sleep again. I always have trouble sleeping normall get about 3hrs on average a night but get worse sometimes and hardly sleep at all, sometimes I'm awake all night. It makes me feel really sick all day though, but never mind it will go back to normal soon and I've been like this so long that I'm use to functioning ( well getting through the day lol) with little sleep.

Thanks for the candy melts info, I will decide nearer the time and see how I go, I have both in so can make another one if have problems with the first.

I think it's the texture with me kind of rubbery but squidgy at the same time yuk.

I really am off to bed now. Night night. :-)

Yeah, but if you visit him you can come and say hello to me as we're not that far from Brighton :-D

AMorning all.

Ha ha, thanks lizzy, I showed the cake Dec man my cake, he was really impressed. had such a lovely comment from the birthday boy himself, was really touched by that.

Now I know your all gonna think i'm mad given what i'be said about my DIL, but unfortunately for the sake of Ioan I go have to hold a candle to the devil, so i'be done the right thing and been accountable and asked her out shopping, rich asked me last week, (how sad is that ) if I would ask her out, I said I was really busy with cakes, that is a lie thankfully, it's easure to do that and keep the peace believe me, thereso been so much in the last 8 yrs, I only touched the surface with what I told you.

But Ioan means more to me than my feelings, so gonna bite the bullit.

AFew typo's there.

Went down to Caerphilly castle yesterday to see how I get in there, and it does actually look like you drive right over the drawbridge, very grand, I am very nervous about this tbh.

Was gonna attempt to make some mini cones, anyone made them?

Roxy - candy melts are definitely harder than chocolate.  Personally I don't like the taste of them but they are going to do the trick I think.

Loubee you are right - I go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 6am - reading all this almost made me late!  I am super busy workwise today so am just checking in before the rush starts.  Blinkin' people now want to change where they sit, what they eat, even now want to come when before they didn't! :x (My staff dinner dance if you didn't catch that before).  Honestly - they are worse than kids - so I treat them like kids.

Barbara - I think you are doing the right thing.  Despite the background.  Fingers crossed it goes well.  Keep your cool! That castle sounds wonderful.  Remember to take some business cards with you and leave them with the concierge.  Quite often these venues show prospective customers what previous events looked like.....

AMorning all. :-)

Sorry to roxy and loubee for getting you mixed up. I didn't even realise I'd done it, my brain knew it was roxy, don't know what happened there!

Loubee if you're stuck with a cupcake she'll again you could use sugarpaste to save you buying more chocolate, I always use it, never tried a chocolate one yet. And I had one that wasn't quite done in the middle if the bottom, I just cut it out and filled it with jam and bc. In my defence it was gluten free and it was a pain and it didn't rise like a normal sponge and it was my third attempt and it was too late to rebake and (inset several more excuses but the fact is I was gona chuck it out the window if I couldn't save it!). In the end it was lovely and when it was cut it looked like I'd done it on purpose to get extra filling in it. :-)

Aw nanny Richard probably feels like he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. He's asking you to make an effort cos it's pointless asking his wife I expect. You're doing the right thing for Ioan (and for Richard), it'll get easier as he gets older, he'll be able to have a relationship with you and john completely independant of his parents one day, it'll all be worth it then. Don't be nervous now you've seen the castle, your cake is going to look beautiful there. It's quite dark in there in winter, they have candles and fairy lights, I can just see your wintery wedding cake sat on it's candle lit table, it's gona be stunning.

Lmao Kathy and sugarluva! You've got to speed read, speed type and check in every hour in case you is something haven't you. :-) I'm always worried I'm gona miss someone, I try so hard to remember everything then my mind goes blank as soon as I start typing!

I last went to visit my brother in 2010 Lizzy so I'm due a visit in about 2020 unless I can put it off a bit longer! That sounds terrible doesn't it? He comes back to see us quite regularly and we usually end up arguing. He's so obnoxious, everyone else says "oh it's just David, you know what he's like" and that makes him worse, he thinks he can say and do anything he likes and get away with it. Well not with me I'm afraid. Oops, in danger of having a rant there! Yes Lizzy, next time I'm in Brighton I'd love to make a detour and meet up with you. :-)

Roxy I'm going to make an appoinent with a different gp after Christmas I think. :-) And yes please to a tree picture, Leah's loving them.

Thanks Kathy. Hope you manage to sort the kids out and get your staff dinner dance sorted out.

I think your doing the right thing to Nanny, my mum was in the same position with my brothers girlfriend so she plays nice now and keeps the peace as the girlfriend had it looking like it was my mum that was being the problem. This of course caused massive rows between her and my brother who live together. My mum has helped her out loads but still she tries to cause trouble on the sly of course so she looks sweet and innocent, doesn't mind lending money of my mum or turning up for xmas dinner with so much as tin of biscuits to say thanks for having us though. I think she is jealous of the relationship my mum and brother have and she is going mad trying to get my brother to move in with her, which he has no intentions of doing so thinks causing trouble between them so they argue and can't live together any more will get her what she wants.

ABlimey roxy, I hope your mam doesn't try too had, she might find herself with a lodger! If she's that desperate to get your brother I'd be very wary of her.

Yeah that sounds about right, appointments for the better gp's in our surgery are booked up 6-8 weeks in advance. And I don't know whether it's just my life or if it's the same with everyone but appointments always seem to fall on the same day. Last month my grandad had an appointment in llantrisant (an hour away)at 3.30 and my auntie had an appointment in Abergavenny (40 minutes in the opposite direction) at 1pm. The llantrisant appointment before that fell on the same day as my mothers gp appointment and Leah's eye clinic appointment so I cancelled Leah's. Hers wS rearranged for today but then my aunties physio appointment came for today so I've had to cancel Leah's again. They're sending me a new one but it'll be January now. And my grandad's waiting for a scan that should be in January too. I'd bet every penny I had that if I make myself an appointment for January one or both of those will end up being on the same day. Always happens!

Haha Maisie she's no chance of moving in my mum's, she has two kids ( not my brothers he doesn't want kids of his own). My mum only sees her when she needs to and is friendly and polite for my brother's sake.

You have no luck with appointments do you Maisie, that must be so frustrating.

GRRRR I'm having a crap morning! Didn't make enough choc cake batter, so had to make another batch, and then I forgot to bloom the gelatine for my MFF. Now have to go out and get some more ingredients for it. GRRRR £4.20 wasted :-( I hate waste and I hate wasting money!!!

Roxy, for the chocolate cupcake case- I think whether you use candy melts or proper chocolate you need to cover the pan in two batches. First to make sure you don't miss any spots, and second to make it stronger. If you wanted to use chocolate, you could do 3 layers- that would make it really strong. Just make sure you trim your cake to fit in it.

Maisie, wow your GP is busy. Ours is usually booked up a week in advance, but if you're very poorly (but not poorly enough for A&E), they'll squeeze you in an emergency appointment on that same day if you're lucky.

Nanny, your ivy definitely looks like ivy. Very pretty. Yes, you're doing the right thing and keeping the peace so you can see and have a relationship with Ioan. Not sure what mini cones are- is it something for a cake or is it food?

AHaha roxy, I bet the thought of that made you giggle then. :-)

Sorry you're having a bad morning Jean. :-( We have emergency same day appointments Jean, you have to ring at 8am to get one. It's constantly engaged when you ring tho. Then when you eventually get through at 8.15 they've all gone. For a normal appointment you have to ring at 12.30, that's to book for two weeks today, same again tho, constantly engaged then they've all gone. There's no other way to get an appointment. Some of the doctors you can ring for one in two weeks and if that clinic is full they'll give you one for the next clinic but some, if you don't get through for the two week today clinic you have to ring two weeks before the next clinic. It's a nightmare. If you see the doctor and he says come back and see me in a week, there's no way you can do that. You can't leave his room, go to the desk and book to see him in a week. You can only have emergency appointments for certain things. You can't have one for a sick note, you can't have one if you need to renew your repeat, you can't have one if the doctor has told you to come back in a week or whatever. The receptionists are little despots and they'll threaten to strike you off as good as look at you. When they ask me what the problem is I tell them if I knew that I wouldn't need a doctor. If I'm stood in the wide open, public reception I tell them to take me to a private room and I'll tell them. They won't do that tho, they just give me an appointment. I don't think they like me very much. :-)

Maisie, your GP certainly is a nightmare. They upgraded ours. We can now make bookings online as well as over the phone, although the new phoneline charges for the calls.

Actually, it looks like I might be able to use the mixture for the MFF. I tested a very small amount by mixing and then kneading in icing sugar and it does look like it's ok. I'm going to use maybe another quarter of the mixture and mix with icing sugar and see how that pans out.

Your GP's sound like a nightmare Maisie! I HATE it when the receptionists ask you what's wrong too - what bloody business is it of theirs? Even if you said 'I think I've got a cold' you might actually have pneumonia and they've told you you can't have a appt cos it's not urgent!

My door's always open if you're down this way Maisie  (and anyone else if you're near Worthing and want a cuppa!)

Sorry you're having a pants morning Jean :( Does it make you feel any better if I tell you I went out to buy some lunch bits for the kids and some eggs for the wedding cake this weekend, and came home £120 lighter? I don't even know what did that, I've only got 6 bags of shopping!!!!!!8O

I'm hoping I'll feel a bit better today as I'm sending off a 'without prejudice' letter to the builder, maybe that'll let me relax a bit knowing that I've done it. Had a really rubbish time recently, lots of pressure from lots of angles. I thought I'd hidden it quite well but I found out yesterday that my youngest had texted hubby to say I was sad and what should he do. This was about 1/2 an hour after I'd shouted mentally at him for essentially sod all. He is such a lovely kid.

I spoke to my mum today and asked her if my brother was pleased with the cake I did (seeing as I've heard diddly squat). Oh yes, she says, they thought it was far too nice for their friends so she's keeping it for her family celebration next weekend. Well thanks for letting me know :x Even more annoyed now as it'll be 10 days old by then so will not exactly be at its best, and her family own a bakery.

You're definitely being the bigger person in this relationship nanny, so cling onto that thought when she's being a petty minded dil. It's really the only way to go. My aunt didn't back down when her dil treated her in much the same way as yours is, and she didn't see her grandkids for a couple of years. She hasn't seen the dil for significantly longer as she (the dil) now refuses to attend family gatherings, including the funeral of my uncle. It's all wrong as the person causing the problems is getting their own way all the time, but it's such a delicate situation that if you stand up for yourself you end up losing out :( I do feel for you x

I kept getting sharp pains in my sides and would be fine one minute and want to rip someones head off a minute later for no reason but couldn't stop myself getting like that. I didn't take much notice just though I was tired and stressed but when they sent me for a scan to see what was causing the pain in my legs they discovered that I have Polycystic ovary syndrome. They didn't do anything just gave me information. I did research and decided to try taking Evening primrose oil and it worked great brilliant. Within a few weeks of taking them everything went back to normal. I stopped taking them a while later as you do when you feel better. A few months ago my period pains which have always been bad got that unbearable even taking painkillers and tablets off the doctors constantly for five days I was passing out with the pain and could barely function. I remembered about the primrose oil so ordered some off holland and barratt last month, took one a day for a few days then took three a day while on my period ( which is what your suppose to take everyday) and I could not believe the difference. I was almost pain free the whole five days and if I did have pain could take two paracetamol and it would be gone. This is a revelation to me as I have been taking strong painkillers from being a young teenager as my pains were very bad. I know your problem isn't excatly the same but I highly recommend you give them a try Tiddy and maybe they will make everything go back to normal for you and if you are starting the menopause will help with the hormone imbalance give them a try. Get the strong ones from holland and barratt if you do try them.

Thanks Roxy! If nowt happens i will look into it but had a scan not too long ago as my sister has that and my mum had fibroids at this age...they said all was well.

Still nothing but did order some decent tests online lol...that will put my mind at rest I think :???:

I have ventured in the cake room and thought i would just pop on and have a catch up..............no chance! You lot have been chatty! so will sit down with a cuppa later and see if I can lol. I did notice nanny ivy though :-D

Lizzy, that happens! I hardly ever go to tesco without a shopping list though. I always forget otherwise what the essentials are. Hubby went last sunday because little one had run out of her vitamins. He went there, came back with about £80 worth of stuff, including vitamins for us. Just no vitamins for our squirt. I said, where's Mia's vitamins? He said 'Argh'. In fairness, he got milk, bread and some other odds and ends and he's been ok lately and buying fewer junk.

Tiddy, you're a busy ninja! Better than dwelling on stuff though! Unfortunately, despite their training, GPs tend to guess most things because its so hard to narrow down the cause. A lot of symptoms could be a multitude of things. I have the impression as well that unless they think you've got something serious, they tend to say 'let time tell' thing, which is maddening.

I'm feeling loads better. I've managed to salvage my MMF although I did notice bits of gelatin that hadn't melted. Think I'll use it for cakes that require texture lol. I've got the last cake- a mini cake, in the oven, and making two cupcakes with the leftover batter. Will have some cupcakes later with SMBC. Oh yum. Then i'll definitely feel miles better.

yep this is true! Do you know what though, she didnt even stop to ask if it would be a good thing iykwim! I mean if this was going to be an awful situation it would need to be found out sooner rather than later wouldnt it? I also find it quite amusing that having had 5 kids no one has once asked me "what do you think?" after all we know our bodyies pretty well dont we? :-D

Tiddy, re MFF, I forgot to let the gelatine bloom. Bloomin stupid eh. The other thing I can't stand is when doctors cut me off when I'm still talking. Really gets my blood boiling. I was watching a show the other week- 'Confessions of a Doctor'. Not so shocking compared to 'Confessions of a Cop' that was shown before that. Now that was appalling! It talked about policing in the 60s and 70s. Jaw dropping stuff. I mean one cop said that he'd stop men on suspicion of 'looking gay' 'wearing gay clothes' etc. He stopped and arrested hundreds just for this 8O I know homo***uality was illegal back then, but that's just ridiculous and very mean. Gawd.

Oddly enough tho lizzy, she isn't unpleasant to my face, never has been, but thinks she can get away with it on text, then as soon as she has any contact with us which is few times a week cos Ioan, then she'said her sugary self.

I find her a bit childish as she is a FB fan and unless you like her photo she doesn't like it.

Anyway no more about her i'm sure you could all strangle her.

Your gonna think i'm nuts, you know I hated the lights on my tree, strangest set of lights ever known to man, and I didn't like where I put it (different from last yr), yep, you'be guessed it, took it all apart bought new lights, moved it and it look lovely.
