AHi all, a bit of a rant about my tablet, turns out because I went down Sarah'a yesterday and connected to her wifi, which i'be done a few times, it actually confuses it and doesn't like the IP address, far fetched I know, so went to curry's and thats what they told us, we had to reset the router, the changed my factory settings, a right PITA.

Anyway it's done now.

Smysha, John has looked after Ioan since he was 6mths, as he is retired, now he picks him up from school 3 times a week, hose pair have a lovely relationship, I don't see him as much as I work saying that I did book the day off for his lovely school concert today, fab.

I could write a book on the things that has happened really I could.

Honestly I feel like this has been the story of my life for the past year. Things are slowly improving now between a few people at home thankfully but things were rough for a while. Personally for me it was a lack of gratitude. I love my nephews a lot and gladly used to drop them off to school and pick them up and give them dinner and shower them because I was looking for work and their parents worked. After a few months it was the little things that would really bother me. That I had to look after doctor appointments too. Look after them when they were sick. Buy medicine because the old bottle had run out etc. I shrugged it off because their parents really are that careless but it was difficult for my mother too and she really felt she wasn't getting enough love back for all that she still does. Unfortunately she suffers from osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia and has to do a lot of the stuff I did because I work now. It's difficult for her and there's a lack of understanding between her and my sister-in-law. Having said that for the last three weeks it's been going really well! This had better not be one of those 'quiet before the storm' situations!

Trying to catch up on all I have missed, sorry if I miss anyone out.

Firstly Congratulations Sugarluva on your engagement, that sounds so romantic how your partner proposed how lovely.Beautiful ring and photos to what a nice present from your sister ( I think) and her partner.Glad you had a fab holiday to.

Petitecat love the one cake the turtles are so cute. That's a great tip about drying cake boards in the oven. Would it be 70% in a fan oven or would it need to be lowered.I think Suzanne said once she had dried flowers in the oven.

Suzanne love the gravity cake, looking forward to seeing the monopoly cake and your dress.

Catsmum hope your mum is doing better now.

Lizzy so jealous of your airbrushing course. What a lovely place you got married in and both cakes are lovely.

Kathy hope your sister got her wrist sorted.

Lovely gift tins Kelsey.

Maisie the kids did so well on the xmas cakes they are fab, well done to them and you. Glad Leah is feeling better.

Newstreet love the princess/spidey cake I think you made the themes work well together.

Smysha wow you've been busy, lovely frozen cake love the wavw effect.

Nanny lovely cake the trainer and mug are fab. Sorry to hear how your DIL treats you my brothers girlfriend is like that with my mum. It has caused murder in the past so now she does it even more slyly (that's probably not even a word lol )

Lelly that's a great idea your hubby has come up with for an airbrushing station, I will have to make myself one of those I have been using cardboard.

I was using a jug to spray my left over colours and water to clean my airbrush into and showed Mr Roxy the cleaning pot online, he got a glass pasta sauce jar and drilled a hole in the lid for me to use it works perfect and cleans really easy plus no having to change filters like you do with the cleaning pots.

Jo lovely minnie cake very pretty, love the photo to glad you had a good night.

Hi Trudy welcome.

AHI all.

It's sad to hear about family troubles! I don't speak to my dad but I don't say anything to my kids that would make him look bad. In fact, I don't say anything at all lol. There's a saying (I think) 'Love your kids more than you hate (insert name of person you don't like).

My girl's play is on Wednesday. She's a shepherd again this year!

Chezza I'm so glad to hear your op went well and you are recovering, hopefully you will be loads better very soon read to enjoy christmas with the kids. Make sure you don't go over doing it.

They certainly do Lelly, Mr Roxy coming up with the simple thing of drilling a hole in a glass jars lid saved me £20 to so even better.

Thanks Petitecat I will have to remember that, though I do tend to do things then think duh! you should have tried that

Tiddy sorry to hear your doctor was useless as I find most are. I had a problem a couple of years ago. Mine were like clockwork then went haywire, sometimes late, sometimes none and sometimes two or three in one month. I kept getting sharp pains in my sides and would be fine one minute and want to rip someones head off a minute later for no reason but couldn't stop myself getting like that. I didn't take much notice just though I was tired and stressed but when they sent me for a scan to see what was causing the pain in my legs they discovered that I have Polycystic ovary syndrome. They didn't do anything just gave me information. I did research and decided to try taking Evening primrose oil and it worked great brilliant. Within a few weeks of taking them everything went back to normal. I stopped taking them a while later as you do when you feel better. A few months ago my period pains which have always been bad got that unbearable even taking painkillers and tablets off the doctors constantly for five days I was passing out with the pain and could barely function. I remembered about the primrose oil so ordered some off holland and barratt last month, took one a day for a few days then took three a day while on my period ( which is what your suppose to take everyday) and I could not believe the difference. I was almost pain free the whole five days and if I did have pain could take two paracetamol and it would be gone. This is a revelation to me as I have been taking strong painkillers from being a young teenager as my pains were very bad. I know your problem isn't excatly the same but I highly recommend you give them a try Tiddy and maybe they will make everything go back to normal for you and if you are starting the menopause will help with the hormone imbalance give them a try. Get the strong ones from holland and barratt if you do try them.

Thanks kathy, yes you will need some luck today.

My daughter in law maisie, she is defensive, paranoid, passive aggressive, she always thinks the worst of me, never gives me the beneft of the doubt. Sarah hates her unfortunately, unfortunately she gives the impression she is so jealous of our relationship, I try to warm to her, god forbid I even made her a xmas cake, and a birthday cake, the pretty one with the cards I made o top, what did she say to me on my birthday, Happy birthday, 1 kiss, very warm, had more warmth from you guys on her, no prezzie from ioan, I was upset, not anymore, used to it.

This is why she's booked a meal out i'm sure, we will see him xmas day tho, take his prezzies up. Sorry having a rant about her, she is a nice person apparently, just not to us.

Finished my cake. Here it is.
Beautiful cake Nanny as always.
If I told you everything Jean you would be godsmacked, I'm not an angel but she is nuts sometimes, she stopped us seeing ioan for 4 mths cos she said we we aggressive. I maybe many things but we're not aggressive, well John she called that not me, but still, she wanted him to apoloise which he would as he is a very proud man, to cut a long story short, her and rich had gone out for the night, we looked after Ioan, now we didn't know what time they were coming home, so naturally I texted them, so if I was to put ioan to bed or not, apparently they weren't happy, turned up at 11,35, remembering my son was going thro a very bad time, drinking, (just left the army) came in and said, felt he was totally rude and obviously had a drink, so I asked hI'm what on earth was wrong with him, he turned around and said ,it's you pair, with that John jumped up and said ok, time to leave, but they were both face to face, she called John aggressive and left.

The next day she felt she wanted an apology, we said no, uand they both said we'll until you do, you don't see Ioan, it broke our hearts Jean, but felt we couldnt say sorry for something we hadn't done, well it took 4 mths in all, then straight after that they hot married in the may in Cyprus, which unfortunately we didn't go to, again broke my heart, all the money we had saved to go ( as we were going), we spent because after that we didn't want to go, honestly it's like walking on eggshells with her. Sorry not such a short story.

Wow she sounds like a nasty piece of work Nanny. I agree with other's that it's strange how it's fine for you and John to look after Ioan when it suits her not that you mind doing it of course. Also cannot believe she's going out for Christmas lunch rather than having it with you, who does that. What does Richard say, or does she rule the roost at home?

Nanny bless you that sounds awful for you and yes I agree with everyone else totally her loss ! I agree with Kathy on that quote. Although nice to hear your mother in law is a fan of yours sock, shame your mum doesn't support you bless you x

Tiddy hopefully that menopause will come quickly for you.

Newstreet your cake is great I can't see anything wrong there ;-)

Well I'm a broken woman from my Xmas do it has to be said Prosecco and I are no longer friends :-( been very poorly but finally getting my sorry act together now. Loads of pics from the night but won't bore you with loads but I will show you one..

Had a relaxing day and husband person looked after me well by doing the house work and cooking the roast .. I knew at that point I was feeling better as I had to interfere !! Am I the only wife that can't resist interfering when husbands are in the kitchen ?!
I wish I could read everything here since my last post. It's going to take an epic catch up! I'll save it for tomorrow's lunch break! :) I just wanted to show you guys some of the stuff I've done this weekend. My nephew had a school fair and I donated some stuff for it. Please excuse the really bad quality photos. I need a camera!

Here are some of the toppers because the quality of the other photo was so bad! I also made some chocolate and peppermint yuletide logs with sugar mushrooms. I ended up going with the peppermint buttercream in the end because it tasted so yummy! I didn't get a photo of it fully decorated but here you go:   And then my first time making gingerbread houses. I'll admit it was 3am by this time and I stopped caring. I would have put more effort into it if it was earlier and I was less grumpy. Again sorry for the shoddy quality: On top of this I had a Frozen cake order too! I made the Elsa out of fondant. She's turned out frumpier than what I would have liked and she has a rather grumpy look on her face but I think I will do a better job next time!  Can somebody please advise on how I can obtain licensing permission to use Disney material. I didn't this time and I only, naively, recently realised you need permission before selling the product and I really don't want to cheat next time.

Happy baking everyone!

I don't think they ever give licensing permission. They want you to buy the mass produced licensed ones from the supermarket instead.

Love your finished cake nanny. And newstreet yours is great too, you made two very different themes look good together.

Sorry to hear about the problems with your DIL nanny. I hate it when families don't get along its such a shame, she should be pleased Ioan has such loving grandparents. I get on really well with my MIL-to-be. In fact the whole family gets along so well er always go out together - my parents, my boyfriends parents and our brother/sister etc.

I've been attempting more Christmas shopping again today but afraid I got rather sidetracked by the Victorian Christmas market at the Lowry. Had a lovely pulled pork muffin! No presents bought though. Oh and a yummy brownie...

Glad Leah approves of my tree. Need to get the last bits up now cos they're driving me mad sat there waiting. I just can't seem to find the time.

I'm so stuck on what to buy my Dad for Christmas. I've got him some bits but I need a good present. He's so hard to buy for!

Aww the Victorian market sounds ace, we went to the Manchester markets yesterday and very nearly went to the Lowry but decided against it. Wish we'd gone now. I love all things Victorian. I love looking round all the stalls especially the baking ones but like you I don't buy abything cause I always think I can make that at home myself. Lol. I had my eye on a brownie but it was £1.80 and I thought nope I can make it myself at home.

morning all,

Jo, fab picture! No wonder you're poorly :D

Suzanne, I can't imagine decorating that many cookies. I've seen some very elaborate ones

Newstreet, lovely cakes!

Sugarluva, I thought you meant proper sprouts covered in chocolate. I was quite disgusted until I read the rest of your post LOL. Can't help with your dad's presents, I get stuck on what to get hubby every single flipping year. What makes it hard is that his birthday is the middle of november, so not long after his birthday I'm having to think of a present again!! At least with me it's all in one go- my birthday is boxing day. I remember when I was young I frequently got one present - the tag always said merry christmas and happy birthday.

Smysha, you busy bee! I'd devour the other log, I don't like mint in my cakes and chocs! So just send the other one off to me. Don't worry about Elsa- she is the snow queen after all! You've made lovely cakes. I tried that wavy effect with fondant before, bit difficult but managed in the end!

Tiddy, good luck at the doctor's x

My nephew is Christmas Day and I always buy him two presents and wrap one in birthday paper and buy him a card as well. I think it's a shame when people only buy the one thing for both occasions its not the persons fault they were born on that day.

Original message sent by petitecat

On the upside, hardly anyone ever forgets when it is LOL

I've just been to lakeland- they are having some sales on- buy one get one half price on cake tins, £5 for two candy melts, etc etc. I've just seen some tip covers (for lack of a better description) there which you use to cover tips to stop the icing from setting. Great when doing RI work!

I've got a tip for those busy bakers out there who have only one mixer- I read a review by the Royal Bakery (based in the US) about plastic containers that go inside a cake mixer. You use them as extra mixer bowls and they come with lids. I could do with them because I only have one mixer and one mixer bowl and I definitely could do with extra. I can't remember what they're called though.

I ordered from Lakeland last Saturday the parcel has still not arrived. I'd ordered two lots of the candy melts and needed some today so ended up having to go and buy some from hobbycraft where there on the same offer. I'm not impressed with the service from lakeland to be honest.

Forgot to ask how your getting on with your airbrush practice Petitecat.

Nanny I was afraid of airbrushing a whole cake when I got mine the first time was a tyre cake so was fine because you couldn't see if it was uneven as it had the tyre impression on it. I followed the the instructions on the dvd for the next one and it went ok but I wasn't super happy with it. Then I watched the free airbrushing tutorials on the pretty witty cakes site by dawn butler and followed her instructions to move your arm from your elbow not your wrist and it was loads better. I still need more practice but recommend watching the videos.

Loubee, glad it worked for you. I think the shops are swamped. Tesco clothing emailed to say they had to cancel two items from my order because they weren't available. I've sorted it but it meant choosing alternatives to replace them.

AI've had a small amount of practice Roxy. I just need to remember to use circling motions so I don't get patches of thick colour in any one spot! Before I let loose on my cake order this week, I'll practice again on a dummy. I think by the time I've got 2 or 3 coats on it should be ok.

Lol I know men are useful sometimes aren't they. It was such a simple idea as soon as Mr Roxy said it I thought why didn't I think of that :duh:

I find I forget sometimes to keep making the circling motions but can normally remedy it if I get a little patch. They nice thing is it dries quickly for the next coat to go on. I started doing it all on low first but find now that using it on medium is best for me, I find on low I get a more patchy finish but high puts to much on at once.

They're lovely Nanny and do look like ivy, they look a lot better than mine did when I made them. Did you dust them? I airbrushed mine but the colour difference on them wasn't as noticeable as I would have liked, I think that is just me needing more practice with colour mixing.

Bloody hell, it's impossible to keep up unless you're checking in every five minutes!

Nanny, I skimmed straight over your Starbucks cup thinking 'nanny's posted a photo of her drink, bit weird' It was only when someone commented I realised it was a topper! Your ivy looks fab too.

Sorry to hear the docs are giving you the run around tiddy, hopefully you'll pick up soon, or they'll be able to give you an answer. Nice tip about the evening primrose oil (roxy? I've already forgotten who said it :-/ ).

You look like you had a fun evening jo :-D You looked lovely :-)

Lol @ sprouts in Ferrero Rocher wrappers Maisie, I'm so doing that in the kids' stockings:-D

I do that 'I can make it at home' thing too - the trouble is that by the time you've bought an entire packet of xy and z to make it, you've spent more than you would have buying it ready made, it's taken 2 days and your kitchen looks like a bomb's hit it. Never stops me though

Nanny, it sucks how your dil is treating you. And I echo the sentiment that using ioan as a stick to beat you with is very low. Could you perhaps 'accidentally' leave your phone showing a text from her off your son is around? Or do as was suggested and just innocently ask him to clarify what she means if she gets snarky in a text?

I'm having a bit of a mare with family too. My brother is being an arse. In the last 10 years, he's been with us (as in the whole of the rest of the family) twice at Christmas. It started we think with his wife wanting to be with her family - she didn't like our Christmas's (playing cards and games rather than watching depressing eastenders) so they always had her family round - but now I think it's his decision too. It would be ok if he just said he wanted it with friends rather than family, but he's using my dad's health as an excuse. Apparently it's too much having his kids there for the day. With 3 other kids to play with. And 9 adults to take care of them. It's not too much though to leave them for the entire weekend with just my parents because it suits him. My poor mum just gets told that it's too much for dad, so apparently it doesn't matter that she's there too and would like to see son and grandchildren at Christmas. Add to that the fact that I don't think my dad will be here mentally by next year and it's just a really selfish attitude.

It's not helped that I went out of my way to do a cake for his wife's 40th (even though I was annoyed with him), putting me behind with other cakes, and he's not even bothered to text to say thank you. He's not mine or my sisters' favourite person right now :-(

Loubee, have you tried contacting lakeland? I've found their service is always excellent if I've got in touch.

Gosh Cheryl, I didn't realise you had a diddy chap, you must be knackered with feeling pants and looking after a 4 year old! Take care you don't do too much!

Lol tiddy, are you now advertising for anyone who might want a frozen cake? 'Can make it at remarkably short notice':-D

AEvening all. :-)

Blimey, is it me or has it got chatty since Roxys back?! :-D

Yes nanny they really do look like ivy, they're lovely.

Oh my giddy aunt loobee, you've just described my periods! Right down to the sharp pain. It takes my breath away and doubles me over. It's embarrassing cos I can't stop myself, wherever I am, whoever I'm with, I can't speak, double over and sweat, it's like I'm having a flipping contraction! And the worst bit about it (well, ok, not the worst but it does my head in) is when people ask what's wrong or if you're ok, if you don't know them or they're male, what can you say? You can't tell em what it really is can you. I try to stay in as much as I can now but it's impossible really. I started taking evening primrose oil a few years ago, I take starflower oil too, I saw a huge difference for a good while but they're getting worse and worse again now. Doctor's given me loads of tablets, none of em worked, I went back to him after a couple of days of one lot (meptid I think) and told him I'm not imagining the pain so why did he give me a placebo! I'm wondering if they should've investigated a bit more now. I thought I just had to put up with it, he said I need a hysterectomy but there's no way I can be leaving Leah for a week so I said no. He pretty much said "tough then".

I don't think I've missed any cakes, only Nanny's ivy is new I think. I'm off to bed now, Gota take my auntie to physio tomorrow and it's ladies day (that's what Leah calls them, it's what they say in school, doesn't it sound nice and clean and dainty!) not looking forward to it, feel like cr*p already. :-( Apologies if I've missed anyone. Night all. :-)

ALizzy that's a wicked idea! I'm going to do that for the boys stockings! Thankyou. :-D My brother, SIL and kids are coming to stay for Christmas, my mam will be here must of the time and possibly my sister and niece. Me and my mam are doing jokey stockings for my 20 year old son and 32 year old brother.i think my 11 year old nephew is old enough for a joke like that too. :-)

Gotta love families haven't you, there's always one in every family isn't there. My sisters got the funnies with me and I have no idea why. And I haven't the time or inclination to find out either. I get on really well with my one brother and the other one lives in Brighton and that's too close!

I really am off to bed now. Night night. :-)

Haha Maisie I'm making up for the week I've not been here

It was me that was saying about the period pains and the primrose oil, I take cod liver oil to for my skin. Did you take the strong ones from holland and barratt Maisie as there is a big difference in those and the cheaper ones from the supermarket. You don't have to put up with it Maisie if you have no joy with you doctor go to a well women clinic or ask to see another doctor a women one maybe, men don't understand as they don't have to deal with it. Don't let them just leave you to suffer you have enough to deal with looking after Leah without being in that kind of pain. I use to use painkillers called Paramol, you have to get them over the counter but I found them quite good maybe give them a go.

AWow mad catch up and now I can't remember a blooming word I've just read. It's late and I'm tired, that's my excuse. We've just got back from the cinema, we watched the new Hunger Games film which was good.

No idea what else to comment on, just thought I'd pop on and say hi.

Ooh I remembered something, nanny your ivy looks great. Really ivy-like.

Ok I give up, night all.

ARemember the other week when I said I loved making giant cupcakes - well now I don't. I've had such a nightmare with one the last few days. Baked one, made a shell for it, then the shell cracked and had no ingredients to make another. Then when I looked inside the cake a tiny bit of it wasn't done. So spent last night rebaking the bottom bit which isn't the right height but I'm passed caring. I need to spend my lunch going to hobbycraft to get more ingredients. Then sort it out after work. I wouldn't mind but this isn't even for an order it's for my sister in law's birthday, yes she'll love it but she won't appreciate all the effort that's gone into it. My Monday night that should have been spent relaxing was ruined.

In regards to Lakeland I checked the order update last night and they tried to deliver last night but couldn't, I'm not surprised it's being delivered to a school and they tried to deliver it after half 6. Did they not think its a school they'll only be there between 8 and 5 or so. So that's another thing I'm not impressed with, parcels probably going to go back if they don't deliver successfully and then Lakeland will be getting a strongly worded email.

Can you tell I'm not in a good mood today? Lol.

Morning all

I honestly don't know why I bother even coming to be bed lately I can't sleep at all,I'm even worse than I normally am. I'm off to town later on today to get the last few christmas bits I need so at least that will be another thing off my list. I've been so busy this year I've not even had a chance to make my christmas cupcakes.

Oh Maisie I will pop a pic of my tree later for Leah.
