AAw thanks everyone, I'm ok really, I think tiddy's right, hormones or the full moon. Lizzy I hope I feel better tomorrow too, a good sleep will help I think.

I love that cake shop nanny, soon as I got home I was wishing I'd bought other things while I was there!

Tiddy did I read right? You calling Gray a nutter? Yep it must be a full moon! :-D

Welcome to the thread slice of heaven. I can't help with specific labelling but I do know that from December the ingredients that might cause allergies have to be listed all in one place, for example the ingredients list, and must be highlighted somehow, bold, italics, underlined etc. I don't sell cakes but I read a bit about it when I made a gluten free, but free cake earlier this year. Kathy would I have to do that for a cake for the school or raffle prize etc?

Chezzabelle that cake is gorgeous! The bride and groom must've been delighted. :-)

Nanny you just made me cry!

Hey maisie, What did they say about your shirt cake?

Don't you find this too sweet? The only times I use more than double the amount of icing sugar is when making cream cheese frosting and chocolate buttercream. Otherwise I find it gets too cloyingly sweet.

My question is as follows: What do you actually list and include on your labels (allergy advice/ ingredients / E numbers / etc. ) ?  I am looking for the actual wording on uk labels for cake makers. Thanks. :D

I looked through this and it does say loose and unpackaged food too. I think I'll need to get in touch with the council to get the specifics on this.

@Slice of Heaven You're the second person to suggest asking for a taste of the cake. I'll definitely do that as she hasn't gotten back to me since this morning. ¬_¬

AWell nanny they had a huge set of circle cutters there, fluted one side, plain the other, they were on offer, I didn't get them but I should have I think. I meant to pick a pro gel up to try it but completely forgot. A huge piece of foam that would be very handy, the brooches I spied last week caught my eye again but I resisted, oh the list is endless! :-D

Yes, very emotional but now I've had a little blub I feel a bit better. X

ANo no maisie :) was just that Slice of Heaven mentioned she used "I can't believe its not butter" from Tesco and that it was high quality butter. But it's not butter it's margerine...

Was just checking I wasn't going crazy Maisie haha!

I love the progels to, have bought the lime green one today, what brooch mould were you after Maisie? I have looked at the Karen davis one for ages but haven't bought it as not sure how much I would use it. Ordered a cheap one instead and if I use it a lot will get the KD one.

I'm pretty sure I can't believe it's not butter is margarine Kelsey.

ARoxy the ones that caught my eye were non edible but I was looking at the moulds too. I dithered a lot and didn't get either. That's my problem see, too much choice and I can't make a decision! The flowers on tiddy's cake were a Karen Davies mould (I think tiddy?) they were lush, I really want that one.

:-D maybe you should go to bed and get some sleep Maisie.

I bought the Karen Davis rose mould from the cake shop I went near my sister's today Maisie. I had looked at that for ages to but it is hard to see what they are like on the internet sometimes, I decided to get it after seeing how nice it was on Tiddy's cake. They had the broach mould there to but I resisted and got some snow flake cutters instead :-D I ordered this one to see if I use it first

AI'm already in bed roxy, the sleep bit is not so easy these days tho. Which is bad cos i'm like a bear with a sore head if I don't get enough sleep. I love sleeping, I love stoozes (not a typo, it's what Leah calls a snooze), kips, naps, forty winks, beds, settees, washing lines, whatever! :-D

I see so many things I want but the trouble is I've already got so much I've bought and never got around to using. I really want that rose mould tho.

Pretty much, yes.

(we use : I can't believe it's not butter from Tesco - not cheap but we find it the best quality unsalted butter)
Just pointing out this isn't unsalted or butter!

Oh no maisie, you're having a crappy day aren't you?! Hugs coming to you from down south x

What brooch have you been looking at getting then? I've just had very sparkly ones delivered for the wedding cake next month. I'm tempted to keep them, they're so pretty! I feel like Gollum :-D

Btw, pro held cod  You should measure that out with kelsey's ignorant spoons :-D

Same her with the sleep part Maisie, I have had trouble sleeping since I was a teen sometimes I have gone all night and still not got off to sleep. I usually get about 2-3 hours if I'm lucky, I don't know why but I'm always tired but can't sleep.

AHaha! Lmao Lizzy! I did miss you when you went AWOL forever! :-D Thanks for the hugs. X I'm feeling better now, laughing, crying and good news. What's not to feel better about. I don't even know what brooch it is, there were several actually. They were all pretty and sparkly, they were calling me, "Maisie, Maisie, you know you want us." My sensible Taurean brain said " no, you don't want them, don't need them, can't afford them". Then the brooches said "Maisie, we didn't want to mention it but taureans are very materialistic, you know you like nice pretty things. You know you want us!". My sensible brain said "you've nowhere to put them, dyu think you've got a cake room at home or something?!" The brooches said "dw about that, just buy us, you know you want us!" So I went home to have a word with myself.

It's pants isn't it roxy. I can always sleep in the day tho.

I'm off now, I should try at least or I'll be good for nothing tomorrow. Night all and thankyou for cheering me up. X

ALol at you giving yourself a talking to  You know you'll be back for brooches though... You neeeeeed them

OK, so after the handy labelling heads up (I was completely unaware - shocking!), I did a bit more research. It's not hard or scary, essentially there's a list of 14 allergens which customers must be told about if the product includes them. Some don't apply to us (unless one of you has a mollusc cake you'd like to share?) but the rest are the usual gluten, nuts, milk/lactose etc. If anything you make has them in it you must let the customer know either orally or in written form. If you choose to tell people rather than write it you must have a notice displayed prompting customers to ask about possible allergens of they have a concern. It can be on a website if you have one, so I guess they just mean anywhere you're selling (so fb would be a prime point I would think). This also applies to tasters, just for those of us that do fairs!

It only applies to businesses though; cakes given for sale at charity/school fairs etc don't have to be labelled (although they say it's good practise to) as long as the person giving them is not a food business.

If you search Food allergen labelling and information requirements under the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No. 1169/2011: Technical Guidance it will hopefully bring up a google search result for the pdf I found which explains it all - I can't work out how to link to it and hubby is fast asleep so can't ask him!

Night night. X

I take it you've got a rotary dryer so you can spread over the lines, otherwise if you're using a single line one you'd have to peg yourself on to stay up, and that just seems far fetched :-D

True about it being the last place they'd look. Ditto that for the dishwasher and the shower!

Night ladies, try and get some sleep!

AHa ha ha, oddly enough maisie, I actually knew what you meant, didn't need decoding or anything, must be the cake circles we all move in now, someone does a typo and it doesn't matter anymore as we all know what it means!

Yes opinion love the Progels, I used Squires Holly green last night for my Holly to go around my tiers, took ages, brought out my leaf green progel, done in a flash.
