Have a wonderful time in the Big Apple Sugarluva - very jealous! Must post a few pics when you get back.
Barbara - do you think the weather is anything to do with the texture? It's very damp at the moment. Is yourself who is doing a Christmas wedding cake? Sorry forgotten who and there's no way I will be looking back in this thread! Just wondering how that is coming along.
I met Suzanne last night - albeit a bit brief! She's lovely. It's nice to put a face to a name, isn't it?
Kathy
ANope kathy can't blame the weather on this, totally my fault, I put it on when it was straight from the oven, I redid it no and it's fine, thankfully.
Yes it's me, havnt even thought of the Xmas wedding, got all the stuff, poinsetta cutters, but got 3 cakes before that, 2 birthdays and a single tier wedding cake, and work, so busy!
AHope the Ferrari is coming on well Jean. Great cake chezza.
Was the lace still warm, Barbara? I am doing a Christmas wedding cake but think someone else is too - Barbara or Mel perhaps?
Have a wonderful holiday Sugarluva. Make sure you buy loads of cakey bits.
I was naughty yesterday bought some chain moulds from The Cake Dec Co before the discount code expired. Whoops!

Do you recall the cupcakes she did with the jewellery? Well she mused that she wanted to do "diamond" rings but didn't have any gel diamonds. I had some from the engagement cake so I popped them through her letterbox. I was in no hurry to get them replaced and last night the bell went - Suzanne - sorry, I was so under prepared......my son couldn't wait for his dinner and my husband hadn't got home, I was running all over the place - and there she was! I couldn't make her out at first - you know when you get brain freeze? I thought it was somebody collecting for charity at first as I didn't recognise her but then she dangled the gems in front of my face - it took a while for it to sink in! Suzanne - we will have to meet for coffee some time - and have a proper meet.
Sorry you are having a bad cake day Barbara. I get a lot of those.....
Lynne --- oooh chain moulds - really? I was looking for one of those a while ago......
Kathy

Hi everybody!
I'm new to CC and didn't know where else to ask this. I was just wondering what everyone's favourite brand of fondant was or if you make your own. I want to buy some in bulk and I really like PME's fondant. They come in blocks of 2.5kg for a tenner but I see other companies that sell larger quantities. I've tried Renshaw and I genuinely MUCH prefer the taste of PME's fondant but I was wondering what other people thought. There are also brands called Culpitt and Covapaste that I have never tried.
Hi smysha welcome to the thread, Sorry I can't help with your question I am just a hobby baker and am using the asda brand at the moment but one of the other lovely people on here will be able to help you out.

Haha. How did the castle go Gray?
I'm delivering it at 7pm tomorrow so a few last things to go but I'm happy with it :-) took ages and a load of things haven't worked exactly as I wanted but they'll never know if that :-)
Hi smysha and welcome. I'm the same as Roxy - I tend to go with the cheapest in the supermarket. However, I am going to have a try and make my own again soon. I used to do that years ago but I haven't got a ton of time to "play" unfortunately. A lot of guys like Sugarpaste Direct and a few don't like it. I haven't tried it personally, sorry.
Kathy
Hi all
Tiddy and Nanny hope your cakey problems get sorted out. I feel exhausted already from the last few days. The cake is ok, the wheels seem too small now but don't care anymore- just want it finished and be able to get on with a load of other cooking.
Gray can't wait to see your castle cake!
Sugarluva, jealous of your big trip! Have a great time!
Hi Smysha, welcome to the thread. Everyone has different opinions about the different sugarpaste brands and everyone has their own favourite. Best to go through trial and error to find what works for you. Carma Massa is great but very very expensive. Other than that I've made my own or used Renshaw if I need red or black!
Waiting for homemade piping gel to cool down and will test to see if it's good enough for the car cake. It uses corn flour so not sure whether its clear enough. See you later folks x
Welcome to the thread Smysha. I'm a hobby baker too and mainly use Tescos fondant but for "special" cakes I like Covapaste and Squires Kitchen. SK have some lovely colours. I use Renshaws (reluctantly) when I need dark colours like the red on my Ferrari! I haven't tried PME or SPD so can't comment on them.
AHi smysha I personally hate the taste of all sugarpaste/fondant I've tried, but I use it all the time as it's essential for the look... I will someday try home made marshmallow fondant and carma massa.... All the others to me are equally unpleasant!
To Work with I find I like sugarpaste direct the best, good elasticity but usually not too sticky... If it's a sticky batch I Knead in some cornflour :-)
If it's a cake I want to eat and the weather is cool I'll use modelling chocolate/Candy clay but I find it harder to work, especially on hot days!
AI do tids, I used to use ccs recipe but it often went crumbly, now I use [@]WickedGoodies[/@] recipe from her book and it's perfect every time :) I bought a big gallon of light corn syrup for £14 from ebay ages ago, still got half left!
I really do fancy trying chocoform tho.... Have you compared the two at all??
ahh mines gone crumbly and hard too...gonna give it a micro blast and see what happens I am still waiting to get some in to see but will let you know

Don't panic... Nuke it on the lowest power till its just soft enough to Knead in some SP... That always fixed it for me before.. Anywhere from 1 part SP 4 parts crumbly annoying stuff to 50:50 it still tastes pretty good even with SP kneaded in and firms up ok with a bit of support :-)
AThanks gray will try that! Nuked it but still not quite right so hopefully this will fix it :)
