Love the purple cake! Did you make it Roxy? Another one with sharp edges! I've not made a ribbon yet, I really should practice...

Marvel, have a great time! Hope I can win tickets to CI next year too.

AAw nanny that's not like you. I hate when whatever's going on in my life affects my sleep. Try not to give work or anything else that's bothering you another thought. Concentrate on having a lovely weekend and a fab birthday with Sarah at CI. X

AWhat about a ribbon cake as roxy suggested maisie on one like this...

They're really easy to make, they cover up mistakes well and they can be made in different colours for different people. They can also be made in advance and only take a few minutes to 'assemble' when you need them.

Morning all

Marvel have a fab time at CI.

Nanny I have asked in tesco a couple of times and they keep telling me they don't sell corn syrup even though they have it online.

No I didn't make the purple cake it was just one I found on google images as a suggestion for Maisie for her three cakes, yours is lovely Sugarluva.

Thanks Petitecat the cutter set was worth the expense they are beautiful, I have added to my wish list.  Sorry with the SP thickness I meant on the cake, did you have to roll it thinner to get the sharp edges. I have looked on amazon at the corn syrup but may give the golden syrup a try first as have some of that in.

ARoxylee, no it doesn't have to be thinner to get the sharp edges. The sharp edges starts from the ganache. And once you covered it, I also used flexi smoothers to make it more sharper. :)

Thanks Bashini I have tried it that way with the flexi smoothers but just can't seem to get it, maybe I just need more practice. Did you use covapaste for covering the cake to? I think my icing may be a little to soft so will try putting a bit of tylose in it next time.

ALush cake sugarluva. I've never made loops or bows. Well I made a very small bow for around the waist of a doll but that's it.

Bashini if I ever got my ganache that perfect I wouldn't put SP on it, I wouldn't want to cover it up!

My local tesco sells corn syrup in the American food aisle. The other one I go to doesn't, I think it depends how big they are. Or whether it's a tesco extra maybe.

Maisie the two store I have been to are both massive but they don't have it. I will try again next time I go. The bows are pretty easy to make Maisie, here's a video.

ARoxylee, yes, I used Covapaste as I didn't have white SPD paste. You actually can roll your paste very thin with SPD paste.

I am still using asda's at the moment as didn't really want to be paying out more when I don't sell my cakes and me and Mr Roxy don't like SP so it gets binned, but might try the SPD after xmas if still not getting the results I want. At least if I could roll it thinner there would be less getting wasted.

AI found corn syrup in the international aisle of a Tesco Extra for about £3....I think it was the one at Cheshunt (Brookfields) on the A10.

Bashini love the green and pink cake and the tulip flowers...your work is always so neat.

One of my friends posted last her pics from CI yesterday...the was a particularly good Gollum (LOTR) cake...I didn't even know she was going....I'm really jealous of you all.

The last time I covered with SP...I cheated and made it marbled to hide my imperfections :D

ANo Sian - you were not rude. I thought it was PB and I thought it was a poor thing to do especially as he gave everyone free access a couple of weeks ago. Go tell Paul when you see him (what's the show like? ) Kathy

I'm not there till tomorrow. Can't wait. I like the last day as all the judging is done and you can get closer to the cakes and see the detail.

I thought it was a horrid thing to do sharing that video. I pay £70 a year to access those vids and am happy to do so, why does every one think they can just get it for free. Loads of people have asked me how to do the balancing cakes but I spent £300 learning how to do that so I'm not telling for free lol

I don't know what videos your talking about ladies but if I had paid £300 to learn something I wouldn't be happy giving it away for free either and if I was paying for access to videos I would be really p**sed if someone else was getting them for nothing.

I have been having a go at making an elsa figure for my mum's birthday cake at the end of the month. It is only my third ever attempt at figures but I am actually and unusually really pleased with how she's looking so far. I need to redo her arm and give her hands but took a break to walk the dog and get some very cold fresh air and though I'd see what you guys think of her so far.

The photos are a bit rubbish the light is terrible in my house once it starts to get dark.

I think that woman probably doesn't think it's wrong but when I saw the video I instantly recognised the background. I am glad you said what you did because I think it's a little bit like shoplifting. I don't blame you either for not sharing your tuition - I think it's such an expensive thing to do, you should keep it exclusive.

I thought you were there today! A girl I follow on FB has made an amazing cake of Jennifer Lawrence. This time she shows photos of how she did it because the last time she did Johnny Depp as a Pirate that somebody complained it wasn't cake and she had to cut it. Anyway - check her work out.

Tiddy!!! M4rvel, an Agbay and a Cake Frame! Wow!

Hello folks. Going to watch fireworks in about half an hour!

Roxy, Siany paid £300 for a class at cake camp UK. They get UK cake decorators as well as decorators from all over the world to come and teach. They're fabulous classes but well out of my budget at the moment. One day, one day...

You've made a really lovely Elsa! I'm debating whether to use a doll or to model Elsa for a doll cake (well, it won't be a doll cake if I model it now will it!!) for my daughter's birthday next year. Still planning the details in my head!

Nanny, sorry to hear you're having sleep problems. My mom never sleeps well now. She wakes up extremely early and finds it really difficult to get to fall sleep after waking up (which is always never) so she's up at 3,4, 5 am (if she's lucky) and then gets really tired in afternoon/early evening and falls asleep at the table!!

AEvening all. :-)

Well tiddy you might think you're having fun but I've got a new Henry, I've been hoovering all day, I'm really living the high life! :-D Oj, glad you're having a lovely time, you're gona love the agbay.

Thanks for the link to the YouTube vid, can't remember who I'm thanking tho!

Siany, Kathy, I think I follow what happened on the cake page and you're right, it's not fair that some people have to pay and others dish it out for free. I'm surprised the cake camp people didn't have something to say about it too. I saw your comment on FB the other day Siany, "magic", made me chuckle.

Well like I said, I've been hoovering all day, even when you know you need a new Hoover you never realise quite how bad your old Hoover is til you get a new one do you? And I made a stew so we're all too stuffed to move now!
