Its a bit baffling because an 8" square cake is a pretty substantial cake, and obviously I will loose a bit when its all carved to make the number one shape, but its still surprising that I can only get 10 servings out of it!

Petitecat I would make the one taller with the off cuts rather than make the sloping bit bigger.

Beautiful cake Victoria is it covered in fondant? how do you get you edges so sharp.

AYes roxy, easy peasy, and you can keep it if you don't use it all, it's just like the rice krispies bars you get in say Asda.

ALovely cake Victoria, I love pink and green together too.

Fingers crossed you get the order Jean.

I'm going to try going to bed now. Fireworks have stopped and Leah's just dropped off. I just hope we don't have a big, long, loud one before she's fast asleep now. Night all. :-)

Okay, so I'm just running through to announce that I have just won tickets to CI, so I will be there after all! We're planning to go on the Saturday - just need to check it all works - naturally is the busiest weekend ever (parents' evenings AND a local Bake Off event next week). But also, yay! So let me know who is in the Saturday club and what you have all arranged... xx

*runs out again leaving a trail of glitter, streamers and balloons*

AAw that's brilliant news M4rvel! :-D I never win anything, nothing, never won a thing in my life. Not something luck based anyway.

Tiddy you'll love the agbay. Any self respecting ninja needs one of those in their arsenal!

I'm so jealous of you all, I wish I could come. I agree with Kathy, make sure you get a photo.

I am in a very good mood this morning, bonfire night is over for another year. :-D It won't last, as soon as they start setting the cheap leftover fireworks off I'll be furious. Did you go to porthcawl tiddy? I heard it was a really good night.

Yep - I spent over £200 in London this year at CI......I was like a child in a sweet shop.  Do me a favour all of you - check out and see if the EdAble Arts stand is there and then speak very loudly about the court case where they got fined £13k.  They were the first stand you came to at ExCel.  Mind you it was only a few weeks after the judgment.  I ended up chucking away all of mine and I lost about £30 of stuff..

Maisie I never win anything either - well I say that but once I won 4th prize in the local Chrysanthemum Club Xmas disco (don't ask) - and my prize was (da da daaaah! - need a build up here) half a bottle of sherry.  The guy called my ticket and said that I had won half a bottle of sherry....the place was a bit, like "didn't know you could even get half bottles of sherry"....well, you can't.  Turned out somebody had drunk half and donated the remaining bottle.  I ended up with a very scary home-knitted loo roll cover which frightened my daughter.  Ah well - you can't win 'em all.

Kathy

PS lovely cake Victoria!

What did they get fined for? Is it claiming stuff was edible when it wasn't, like the dusts?

Whaaaaatttt. I can understand a drunk person thinking of donating half his bottle, but was everyone else so drunk to that they allowed it to happen? Gotta laugh at this story though LMAO

Hi Jean - yes:

Businesswoman sold 'edible' cupcake glitter made from shredded plastic and powdered brass - and insisted it was safe despite repeated warnings

  • Margaret Martin duped cake businesses into buying the fake 'edible' glitter
  • Despite being marketed as edible decoration, it was made from plastic
  • Martin claimed she named her business EdAble Art Ltd after three animated mice characters called Ed, Able and Art
  • Leeds Magistrates' Court ordered her to pay £13,515 in costs and fines

There was a lot of hiatus about it.  I got all my pots from the local cake decorating shop.

Yep the story about the sherry is true - happened a few years ago.  We were invited to a disco by some friends whose parents belonged to the Walthamstow Chrystanthemum Club (who knew, eh?).   I remember standing up to get my prize while it was slowly sinking in....HALF a bottle of sherry.  The guy giving out the prizes held the bottle up to the light even (as if you needed to do that - but I guess it's like when you trip over nothing, you always look to see what the offending item was - just to let people know you are not that careless!!).  So I was up at the front for an unnecessarily long period of time and then somebody thrust this loo roll cover at me and I was mortified.  I had to accept it.  Went in the bin when my daughter saw it - it was possibly the ugliest thing I have ever seen.
