AHellloooo!

Ooh lovely lot of cakes been made this weekend!

Tiddy the turntable is fab! Also loving the headphones, really brilliant!

Jean and Catsmum we are all in sync this week with our Chantilly mats then LOL! Jean yours is lovely, pink ribbon is perfect and I love the wafer flower, reminds me of a water lily! Catsmum yours is lovely too, love the peach! I lustred my white lace with a champagne lustre to 'antique' it a bit, works really well, although I think I lustred half the kitchen and myself in the process

Suzanne, what a fab set! They look so perfect together, she will be over the moon with that!

Lizzy, still waiting to see your slippers......tut tut ;D

Nanny, hope your castle is going ok!?

Kuuushi, Marvel, Gray, Bashini, Jo, hope you guys are doing ok and are being quiet for good reasons! :-)

Hi everyone else!

My fair went well today, not quite as busy as I'd hoped but I have 2 consultations arranged already so I'll count that as a success! Nice to meet some different suppliers too though and have a natter and I got lovely feedback on the cakes too, which is always nice! Here's a pic of the 2 newbie cakes from this week!

Don't do it Loubee!!!!!!

Just kidding - I think!

Lol Marvel, I honestly change my mind weekly I'm currently having a definitely do it week at the moment. As I work as a teaching assistant I know the heavy workload and long hours that come with teaching which is what makes me think twice sometimes, but then I find it so rewarding and I love all my children that I work with.

ALOL Jean thank you, I had several brides today who said the same, they just couldn't decide!

I'd be a nightmare if I had to pick one for us again, actually ours was a very simple quite traditional design, but I loved it (didn't make it myself though, one thing I did not want to be stressing about!).

Was chatting with a wedding dress lady today though and I would love to go dress shopping again, so much fun!!

AEvening all, it's been really quiet on here today, I thought there'd be loads more to catch up on. I thought I'd have a look to see if Suzanne's cakes were here yet and I wasn't disappointed, Suzanne they're gorgeous, really beautiful! I love that the cases match the discs, my favourites are the hearts. Or the earrings maybe. No, the hearts. But the earrings are soooo pretty. They look so lovely all together.

Mel they're both gorgeous cakes but I really love the silhouette cake. I wanted to attempt one for my brothers wedding cake but now they want it on a stand I don't want to, I don't think it would look as good on seperate cakes. Pity cos I really want to try it.

Lovely record player tiddy, I too am surprised a thirteen year old knows what they are.

The cake lace cakes are both gorgeous, I've had it for months and still haven't got around to trying it. I've got a 40th birthday cake at the end of the month, my sister asked me to make it for her friend. At first she said I could do whatever I wanted so I thought I'd finally get a chance to have a go at the lace but she's sending me daily texts with more and more detailed instruction and not one of them say lace. :-(

Sorry your mam is still poorly Lynne. Hopefully the increased medication will start doing the trick.

How's Bastian Siany? And how are you, hope you haven't caught it.

And Lizzy, are you feeling better? Lots of poor, poorly people.

Glad you're having a reprieve tho tiddy, can't remember if I already said but if I have I'm doubly glad!

Hope I haven't left anyone out, apologies if I have. Oh, hi m4rvel, nice to see you. School been keeping you busy?

Haven't seen Gray for a while either have we? Or roxy and jo. Hope you're all well anyway.

AHi Maisie and Marvel! Yes it's been dead quiet. How unusual for us!

Mel, how did you make the tiny little butterflies on your silhouette cake? Were they hand painted?

ASorry loubee. Leah hated having her passport photos done! I was dreading it tbh, I knew she'd be put out. If anyone points a camera at her she'll smile and pose all day long, as soon as the lady told her not to smile she had a face like a smacked backside! She was in a bad mood all day then.

And sorry sock monkey. I always use milk chocolate for ganache, we don't like it made with plain.

AOh dear sorry Leah didn't like having her photo done, bless her. So lovely that she just wants to smile though! Hopefully you'll get a chance to use your lace soon Maisie :)

Argh forgot to say earlier, but hope you and Bastian are ok Siany, and that your Mum feels better soon Lynne x

Jean they are hand painted, I use Squires liquorice gel with a bit of extract to loosen it to paint consistency :) The figures are cut out of black flowerpaste and stuck on, but all the rest is painting. Really lovely doing it, very therapeutic lol!

But I thank you all also. It means a lot. Xx

AVery unusual Jean, we'll blame nanny shall we?! :-D

It is lovely that Leah's always smiling mel but if she's not you know you're in trouble! I'm itching to use my cake lace but I think if I had a free day to cover my dummy I'd rather have a go at silhouettes. I love them, you've made one, kathys made one and I've seen two on Pinterest. They really do appeal to me. What do you (any of you) think it would look like on three seperate cakes on a stand? I don't think it would look as effective, I think it would be a bit, I don't know, disjointed maybe.

Aw bless your mam Lynne! Yes I can imagine. :-) tell her she's got an extra prayer for a speedy recovery and a virtual cwtch from Wales tonight. X

I'm off to bed now, night all. :-)

AI caught up with everyone's cakes last night and could have sworn that I posted a reply but it's no where to be seen so now I'm confused as to who I have said well done to.

Anyway, well done Tiddy on the turntable cake it looks fantastic.

And Suzanne the cupcakes came out amazing they're all my favourites!

Also everyone's wedding cakes are very impressive I am in awe of them all.

I hope everyone who is feeling unwell has had a nice quiet weekend and is feeling better now. It has been quiet on here today which shows how many people are under the weather!

Oooh, they're beautiful.  Both of them.  But I especially love the silhouette one.  Are the couple painted or cut out?  And if cut, did you use a cutter or hand-cut from a template?

The last couple of wedding fairs I did, I got zilch!  I put so much time and effort (not to mention money) into them that I just don't think I can do one again.  So two consults already is really good - especially as some brides don't always get in touch straight away!  Hope it leads to orders for you.

Loubee - I think working with children is a definite calling.  I couldn't do it.  In fact, I heard a fab quote a while ago (wish I could remember where) "Kids are like farts....  you only really like your own". LOL!!:-?:wink:;)

Thanks for all the lovely comments on the cupcakes...  I got a fab email from the customer this evening:

Hi Suzanne

OMG the cake and cupcakes were GORGEOUS!!!! Sophie loved them and so did I and every one else that saw them!!!!

And they tasted gorgeous too!!!!

Thank you again for yet another perfect creation!

Doesn't get much better than that!

No cake orders for me next week, but I'm going to get ahead and bake and freeze the birthday cake and cutting cake that my dad's asked me to make for his wife's party in a couple of weeks.

AAw, lovely to get such a nice email from your customer, makes it all worthwhile when you get feedback like that doesn't it!

The silhouette couple were hand cut, I printed out a picture then cut that out, rolled my FP then stuck it on some wax paper with Trex, then smeared a little more Trex onto the front of the template to stick it to the FP. Wasn't too bad to cut but the faces were the trickiest, at one point they both needed major nose jobs lol! But I smoothed any dodgy bits with a colour shaper (found one in a Hobbycraft Lynne, right at the back with the brushes) then just painted it with sugar glue, picked up the wax paper and stuck it on! Will definitely use the wax paper method again - made life so much easier!

I'm busy making cookies this week! Doing some logo branded ones for a local wedding stationers to take to a fair, and she'll be recommending me, which is lovely! Also got a meeting with a local hotel wedding coordinator this morning to see if they'd make me a recommended supplier - fingers crossed!

Oh, and it's my anniversary today!

Mel, happy anniversary!

Suzanne, what a lovely email from your customer. I've only had one so far, and it's probably because the guy was so grateful I got his girlfriend's name right on the cake, when during the consultation I kept calling her Emily rather than Tamara!!

Catsmum, yay that's great!! Well done :)

Gray! You've just come back on CC and now you're going away again! Ooo Disney world, I'd be excited too!

Hi not sure I'm on the right thread. I have a registered wedding cake business in Nottingham UK. I'd like to know what percentage of profit other businesses use to price their cakes? Currently i charge for costs of ingredients boards etc plus i pay myself £15 per hour and then add 25% profit on top. How does this compare to other registered businesses?

Many thanks in advance

Lisa

Welcome to the thread Lisa :)

That sounds very similar to me; I set my maximum allowed work time per cake on the going price for similar cakes in my area based on an average wage of £15 per hour and 20% business proffit..... I do increase my wage though if it's a more skilled creation/original design.

How do you find that system works for you? do you get a good lot of orders?

Hi all,

Sorry not been about. Thanks all for asking after Bastian, he is much better now, Sunday he seemed to be back to normal.  Had my eldest, her fiancé and Grandson over for dinner yesterday and I ate so much I felt ill.  I made roast welsh lamb and all the trimmings and then made Paul Hollywoods Lemon Meringue Pie for afters.  Honestly my stomach thought it must of been Christmas dinner I felt so bloated full and sick haha

Gray lovely to see you as always, whilst you're in disney world ask them to cut us bakers some slack :D

Just made some gingerbread men with basty. Very yummy :)

Suzanne, your jewellery cupcakes came out lovely! Mel, love the silhouette cake. Lizzy, when you hiding lovey? You finished them slippers yet?

I'm off to eat some gingerbread men, oops I mean decorate, I did, honestly...

Oh Gray - you and Mrs Gray are going to have such a great time! I've been twice to Florida and once to the one in California when I was working in San Diego. The last time in Florida was especially wonderful I was able to take my two great nieces and their dads as a treat and it is truly magical - especially through the eyes of a child! That said we are all kids at heart when you get to somewhere like that.

An experience you will never forget!
