AHi all, hope you are all getting over your respective ills - esp you, Tiddy. No-one should have to suffer such pain for so long, athough still watching my mum enduring terrific pain 6 weeks on. For whoever asked, her own Dr returned from holiday and has now tripled her medication so we now watch, wait and sympathise. That's worse - not being able to do anything more than daily calls as I am 250 miles away.

Back to cakes - lovely cakes again. Dying to see the jewelled cupcakes clustered together (dare I use that word here)? Loved the 50th and pink wedding cake, ladies. I had a 90th dropped on me for yesterday, which in itself (and if I was Tiddy ninja-like) and didn't work would have been ok, but we all know flowers benefit from drying time. Anyway , here it is. Tried colouring the lace with shimmer peach off the cake. I also cooked the lace and left it to air dry as I had time for that, and I feel it made it stronger - or maybe it was just the design wasn't so flimsy.

ABeautiful cake catsmum, really elegant and the lace really makes the cake stand out. I really want to try cake lace I might treat myself to some soon.

Morning everyone!

Sock monkey, we all have reservations about a cake every now and then! Think of it as practice, without which we wouldn't get anywhere! I hope you're feeling better!

Siany, hope Bastian is better today? Cross fingers!

Tiddy, fabulous cake! Wish people would order creative cakes from me, I'm getting a bit bored!

Catsmum, you did a fab cake! The flower is beautiful. We have the same cake lace- I just love it!

After spending a maddening night last night trying to get my new cake photos on my website to no avail, I had better luck this morning, although I'm still not happy with having to change some settings. Anyway, I'm rambling! I finished my cake yesterday. If anyone is wondering, that flower is meant to be a magnolia, but it reminds me of a lotus- I guess now I have a flower design that's interchangeable! This dummy cake is months overdue- Suzanne, have I tipped the procrastination scales in my favour? :-D

AThank you. Your finished cake is lovely. Glad you went for the pink ribbon. I think it fits with the more contemporary design of the flower.

I have a "when I retire list". Amongst the "to dos" are making lots of white/ Ivory flowers which could be pulled out and dusted for "surprises" like this. Or perhaps I should enrol for ninja training at night school?

AOh petite cat that cake is gorgeous, everything ties in so well together and the pink ribbon fits in great. The flower is beautiful. I've never tried to do a flower so I envy any one who can. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks so may treat myself to the cake lace then.

Lovely cake Lynne - pretty colour.  Did you colour the lace or buy it ready tinted?  Same question to Jean!  Nice cake Jean - I like the ribbon too and the flower.

Lynne - I think we are all in ninja training whether we like it or not!!!

If anybody is wondering - Nanny has broken her tablet and is missing us!

Have a nice day everyone!

Kathy

AKathy I dusted the lace with shimmer peach dust sugar flair using a blusher type brush. Did it off the cake.

AThanks everyone.

Kathy, in my case I coloured the cake lace during the mixing process. I rang up Lakeland to double check that I could!

ATiddy, forgot to say (think it was you asking about SK sugar paste), I like it a lot. It's easy to work with and I had no problem with drying out or cracking. My two 90th birthday cakes both were covered in it. They have a nice selection of colours too.

It's really, really beautiful.  And the ribbon around the drums works perfectly!  In fact, the dots on it pick out the pearls around the base of the middle tier!!  And I'd love to have a play with wafer paper flowers one day!!  However, as there wasn't really an absolute deadline for this cake, I reckon I still hold the crown when it comes to procrastination!!!

How's your son today, Siany?

Here are some pics of the cupcakes.  Thanks again to Kathy for the edible diamonds.  And thanks everyone else for cheering me along, on the way!!!  I got them and the 6" top tier finished quite late on Friday.  Then yesterday I spent the day cleaning and tidying as there were 12 of us here for dinner last night!!  Then up early this morning to bake the cupcakes before delivering out in Hertfordshire at lunchtime!!!

Suzanne, The cake and the cupcakes work so well together. I love all the jewelery, but I do have a (very) soft spot for dangly earrings, so they're my fave cupcakes! Thanks for the comments regarding my cake

LOL ok I'll let you keep the crown for now!

Catsmum, hope your mum starts to feel better soon x

Gosh it's really quiet here today! What is everyone up to (tea?)! My roast is roasting! Dauphinoise waiting to go in the oven, and leeks cooking for the leek and butternut squash medley (for lack of a better description). I burnt some of the leeks already by coming on CC...

AWow Suzanne they look so good altogether I really cannot choose a favourite from them all. I bet the little girl was thrilled with them.

I've just got back from a 1st birthday party so feeling a bit full from party food at the moment, might have something light like a bacon sandwich later. Enjoy your dinner jean it sounds good. I need to get off my phone and go and tidy my bedroom then get some studying done as uni started again yesterday.

AWow Relznik...loving the jewellery cupcakes. My fave is the heart pendant.

You ladies are inspiring me to try the cake lace...how hard is it? I managed to feed 4 of the Christmas cakes today and baked the 5th yesterday and also made a batch of mincemeat...all those cooking apples I acquired being used up.

Got in from work about 3.30 today. I'm just waiting for my roast to finish cooking as I indulge in a glass of red and then to watch the strictly results. Taking my Sunday evening steady.

AI'm studying for an honours degree Suzanne, it's with the open university so it's just an open one made up of various courses mostly education ones, I'm currently studying children's literature, haven't opened my books yet so don't know what to expect. I've just finished my foundation degree in primary teaching and learning off to my degree ceremony Friday afternoon to collect that and like a mad woman I decided to continue studying. Lol. My final aim is to be a primary school teacher eventually but that's years off yet.
