AWow fantastic cakes Kelsey well done you have been busy!

And amazing news maisie you must be so proud. Leahs claims to fame definitely makes everyone else's seem lame now!

Another claim to fame I have is that whilst at college I used to work in JJB (hated it!) and I have served Adam Lavigne (SP?) from Maroon 5 and some footballer from Manchester City. Have no idea who he was though to be fair. Once he had gone people came running up to me to say 'Ooh was he a nice guy?' and I was like 'who?!' haha didn't have a clue and still can't remember what he was called now! The footballer that is... I definitely knew who Adam Lavigne was!

Wish I had an exciting cake coming up. It's my dad's birthday at the end of the month though so I could start planning something fun for that I suppose!

AOh and one more (then I'll shut up!) I was swimming at the village hotel in Cheadle last week and also swimming up and down doing his lengths was Billy Ocean. I had no idea who he was either until my mum squealed it at me hehe.

And a quick question, any idea how you would get a 'fried chicken' effect on SP for a KFC themed cake?

Thanks Jean.  It was just hard as there was literally no wriggle room on the placement, as soon as it touched it had to stay where it was or it left a blue smear.

The emblem was printed out on to card, cut out with a scalpel then I used that as a template to cut it out of sugar/flower paste.  I piped the lines on the ball with royal, sods law my extruder turned up just after I delivered it or I would of used that for the white lines on the ball lol

Customer seemed happy, did a little dance so guessing that's a good sign haha

Thanks about the cakes guys. I'm wrecked! Got McMillan tea morning next week so doing a choc orange mud cake for that! Any one know how to made candied oranges?

The leopard was easy! Just one base colour and random bits of black around the edges it's quite easy!

The chicken drum stick was Rice Krispie Treat and the coating is crushed ginger nut biscuits.  The fries are cookies.  I rolled my cookie dough to the rough size and shape of a potato then chilled - then with a knife cut to chip shapes and baked!

Oh no!  I didn't take it as criticism at all.  I wish I could be a bit more disciplined so that I don't work all these stupid hours.  I'm a very slow worker and very easily distracted (I'm just having some soup for lunch and eating at the computer which is why I'm on here now).

If I had another job, there is absolutely no way on earth I could work like this!!!!

To be honest, kids cakes take just as long as wedding cakes, yet I usually get less than a third of the money!  I would love to knock the kids cakes on the head - but as I only get about 6-8 wedding cakes a year, I simply can't afford to.

My ideal world would be 2 wedding cakes a month!!!!!

Oh well..  back to work!

AMine would be too relznik. Enough to pay the mortgage each month, and no begrudging working for less than I should! I do love novelty cakes, but people cannot understand that it's the time that's costs. A design takes the same amount of time regardless of the celebration! Just because it's for your 1 year old doesn't mean it can be made faster and cheaper :/

Yep, I did a KFC cake kelsey :-) I think I used crushed wafer ice cream cones for the crumbs. It would have been whatever I had in the house given that youngest asked me to do it the night before his birthday so that he could take it in in the morning. Gotta love them :-)

AI really struggle to get wedding cakes too! I tried magazine adds this year and nothing- not a single enquiry even and my adds were pretty good I think! I wonder if it's because I don't have a storefront for them to come visit/browse...... I would love to be just wedding cakes that would be amazing! and I would love not to do cakes for 'friends' (ie anybody who knows my name or knows someone who knows my name)

Las question I promise, drive is 20 mins, do you go with cake stacked or separated? Wedding is tomorrow will I leave it stacked overnight?

This is it so far, there is another tier for the top.

ANormally I prefer to travel with them separate news, but as you've already piped around the base and as they're stacked with no separators I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be stable enough to travel no problem. Just put then in the middle of the lowest part of the car you can, and I saw a suggestion of using a duvet underneath to absorb any shocks which seems sensible :-)

It looks really lovely btw :-)

AAfternoon All!

OMG Gray, did you have to put the idea of cake covered in ganache and rolled in biscuit crumbs in my head?! Yum! Suzanne and Lizzy, love your drumsticks (Ha!) they are amazing! Love the idea of the crushed ginger nuts. With chocolate ganache......mmmmm......

Suzanne you so sound like me LOL I'm awful when I'm not sure about doing something, I'll generally find something else to do instead rather than just getting it over with!

Hi to all our Newbies!! I'm loving the sound of the Monopoly cake and the Jukebox, amazing! (For the Monopoly board, you could maybe get edible icing sheets printed for the names and things to make things easier?)

Newstreet that cake is looking good, don't worry! In terms of transport I'm always a chicken and take them separately and stack on site. It does depend on design though, yours looks like it would be fine as is, maybe take the top one separately if you are nervous? And I second the 'take extra royal' sentiment!

Kuuuushi, nearly the end of your mad week isn't it? Hope this afternoons deliveries all go well, the cakes look ace, and that shoe is brilliant!

Hi Tiddy, hope your heads been behaving x

OMG Maisie how amazing for Leah! That's something she will never forget, so so chuffed for you both :) x

Ooh who said Alex O'Louglin!? Very nice, especially in Hawaii 5-0, lots of beach scenes.......ahem! :) Wouldn't throw Bradley Cooper out either though

Well my Wonka cakes went pretty well I think! Really happy with my Oompa Loompa, but sadly my everlasting gobstoppers didn't make the grade - seriously, they were ruddy awful to try and make! So they got and extra Great Glass Elevator instead :)

Lizzy, you did the KFC cake the night before... THE NIGHT BEFORE!!!! Whaaaaa??? Another ninja on our hands methinks!

Mel, fab cupcakes. They look brill! That's great about the tweet from Zoe Clark :)

Newstreet, love your all white cake. If you want the extra piece of mind, get someone else to drive while you 'nurse' the cake on your lap (duvet on lap, then cake on top of duvet. If you can box it (just get any clean, brand new cardboard box) even better. While the cake is on your lap, you can support it on tight bends, bumps, etc. I would stack the last tier on site.

AHi guys. :-) Apologies for barging in and barging out again yesterday. I'm back down to earth now (almost!) so I'm going to try to catch up.

Tiddy that stained glass cake is amazing, you must be so patient.

Love your cakes Kuushi, my favourites are doc mcstuffins and the shoe cake. I wouldn't worry about using plastic figures, I use them very often, mostly cos I'm rubbish at making them but sometimes cos that's what people want. Especially for kids, it's nice they're left with something to play with when the cake's all gone.

I love everyone's claims to fame, you worked on corrie sugarluva? What did you do? Suzanne she's definitely your cousin. :-)

Welcome sock monkey, can't help with the wedding cake, I've never made one, look forward to seeing it tho. M4rvel and Gray keeping us in check?! Did I read right?! I nearly spat my coffee out! :-D

Hi spirelite, re: marzipan, can you have marzipan on the actual wedding cake? I iced a fruitcake in July without marzipan cos the birthday boy doesn't like it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be actually, I did roll the SP a bit thicker than usual tho. And because it stuck straight to the jam there was no wiggle room. Jukebox is an excellent idea btw.

Roxy I have heard of Mayo in a cake. I like mayo and I line cake but I'm not sure about the two together. I know you probably wouldn't taste it, it's just the thought of it.

Lynne you weren't really supposed to guess, it was more a clue for Gray. Forces, NATO, where I live etc. Leah wasn't in uniform, some were, it was up to individual heads. Leah's thought it would add to the occasion if they could get dressed in their best. I'll put a photo of her on at the end.

Excellent idea about a cake for school Gray, I'm going to offer I think. :-)

Leah was enormously excited Lizzy! She really seemed to understand the magnitude of it too. I've been teaching her the names of some of the people she was going to meet, she saw the prime minister, waved and said "hello David"! All she really wanted to do was show the prince her curtsey, she'd practised so hard, I'm so glad she was able to.

That spurs cake is fab Siany! It would scare me, not enough decoration to hide my SP mistakes.

Newstreet the wedding cake is looking really good. I'd stack on site I think, transporting two tiers is nerve wracking enough for me.

Love the wonka cupcakes mel, I didn't see the gobs toppers but I think it probably worked out for the best cos the elevators are so cute.

Phew, hope I haven't missed anyone!

I've got the raffle prize winners cake due tomorrow, didn't start it til this morning and not even early, we had to go out to see the flypast first. Talk about procrastinating, I'm the worlds worst and soooo slow when I do get going.i'm not even in the mood tbh, making cakes is a bit of an anti climax after the last few days. Thankyou everyone for all your lovely comments, I'm sooooo proud of her. We couldn't take her anywhere when she was younger cos she was such hard work. I still can't quite believe she was chosen to represent her school to meet the American president!

Mel, your cakes are brilliant, really Wonka-y :-) I'd be bouncing round the room like a nutter if Zoe Clarke did that to me! You do a stupidly happy dance!

Petite, I did have the cakes made luckily. I knew he'd want something, I just didn't realise it would be a proper novelty one, and that he'd want it for the morning! I had about 4 hours sleep that night :-)

Love both the KFC cakes, I can't believe you freehanded the logo Lizzy that's brilliant.

Mel love the wonka cupcakes did you make them all by hand there fab. Fab about Zoe Clarke re-tweeting and favouriting you.

Newstreet the wedding cake is lovely your doing a great job on it , I love your brush embroidery.

Awww Maisie Leah looks beautiful in her dress and so happy. What cake are you doing for the raffle winner.

Well I finally got around to trying to make a fondant figure for the first time today. I was watching videos on youtube and saw a tutorial and just had to try it. I think the face is rubbish but overall am really pleased with it, and for my first ever go think it turned out good.
