So I made the Like Lofthouse cookies. Then made Toba's Glace and iced about 40 cookies. I couldn't find space for them to dry where the ants and flies won't get to them so i put them in the fridge. Then read on here NOT to refrigerate so I took them out... now the glace is still wet I still have to stencil on them but i think the stencil I made will squish the glace. I tried painting using gel color but it bled like crazy.
I'm so tired. and don't have much time. Can i save my cookies using the glace or should i make a batch of fondant. If it's fondant I have to wait til tomorrow.
ARGH!!! I'm so frustrated! Thanks for letting me rant.
Sorry I cant help, but just had to say that its snowing where I am we are expecting 3-6" of snow so I cant relate to the ants and flies! I wish spring would come already.
Sometimes when I am trying to hurry fondant or royal drying time I put them in the oven with the light on(or just the pilot light if you have a gas stove) I've also heard people talk about using a fan..although I guess that wouldnt deter ants so unless you want to watch over them while they dry.
cucpakes: I use rubbermaid containers from walmart and dry cookies with the lids on. They have sort of a reddish lid and they are airtight, two different depths.
Can I ask about your avatar?
shiney, so it's okay to keep them in a container with a closed lid like a tupperware? i thought i had to air dry them. my avatar is a character from the show Little Britain. Her name is Marjorie Dawes and she loves da cake hehe
bbmom, i live in a tropical country so we get bugs all year round, unfortunately.
Will fondant be faster/easier? I'm just so... tired, I guess.
That's how I dry them, I want them fresh, fresh, fresh!
I LOVE Little Britain. He makes the prettiest woman I've ever seen . If it wasn't for BBCA and Eastenders, I'd cry every day for 'home'!
I'm just feeling whiney because it was 54 degrees F yesterday and I was getting spring fever, but woke up this morning to snow, We'll have plenty of bugs in a couple of months though. I guess if its not one thing its another.
Can you put a piece of nylon net over the containers and leave the lid off?
Bugs are my biggest rivals. And we don't have a big fridge. When I have to leave cakes or cookies out i have to put them on a plate then put that on top of a turned down bowl that's sitting in another plate with water, just so the ants can't get to them. and to keep the mosquitoes and flies away i have to do make shift a tent out of manila paper and cover the entire thing. LOL it looks like some weird elves camping in our kitchen table lol.
hahaha! I haven't watched that but I will ask my fiance. He loves UK shows and hardly ever watches US shows, even the news LOL
Oh, you should. It's very dark and strange, kind of comedy-horror. http://www.leagueofgentlemen.co.uk/newvids1.shtml Not to everybody's taste.
Tubbs, that's funny! That's why I didn't want to assume cupcakes was from LB, just in case! Dust? No?Dust? No? You can't beat the brit comedies. I wish they would stop trying to do american versions of them, can never live up to the Brit humour!
Sorry, got way off subject. Cupcakes, I'd get some airtight containers and dry them that way. I love the rubbermaid ones, they are airtight and can be stacked and I also freeze in them.
I use pizza boxes to store my cookies in while they are drying. One good advantage is that you can stack the boxes.
Great idea, New! Now, it's not from the previous night's mushroom and black olive is it?
I reserve the ones from the previous night for pizza cookies so they will have the pizza smell!
Seriously, I called the local pizza joint and asked if I could buy some boxes. They thought I was crazy and I had to explain what I was going to use the for. The manager on duty agreed although he wasn't suppose to. They gave me instructions to pull around to the back of the building. I get there and a worker comes out the backdoor with my boxes. If someone were watching, they'd thought a drug deal was going down!
I think they charged me $2 a box. Sounds like a lot, but I only needed a few and I have used and reused them. I line them with aluminum foil each time I use them.

Looks like I have another reason to look forward to our family pizza nights! I'll send the kids up for two boxes when I only need one! I'll have a stash in no time!
TubbsCookies - You are hilarious!
Newatdecorating - You are brilliant! I will definitelygive the pizza box idea a try! Whoo hoo! I can stack them and reclaim at least part of the dining room!
Glad to help!
For those who decorate a lot of cookies and may need more than a few boxes, there are places you can order them from. I had heard that Sam's Club carried them, however our Sam's does not. At the time I checked, you could ordered from them online. And there are other places that you can order from.
Some people even deliver their cookies in pizza boxes. I was thinking that when I checked it would have run something like 38 cents. Can't remember for certain, but pretty certain it was under 50 cents. I just don't do enough of them at this point to stock pile a bunch of pizza boxes.
I pizza boxes for my cookies all the time....they're great. I can get a stack of boxes at the local Cash & Carry type store and I've even bought them online but shipping was more than the boxes.
Too bad about Sams not having them....the last time I was by Sams I noticed right at the food court area they had the price of the boxes right next to the main food menu - that's when I realized they sold them to the public. Makes so much sense, sell boxes, icing, etc to the public and make even more money!!! I wish Costco would smarten up and do the same.
KathyTW - Where did you order from online? I was wrong about the charge for Sam's. I just went on their site and figured it up to be 60 cents per box. I check on Ebay and found one on there for nearly $1 per box. Also, found another listing where someone was auctioning off a used pizza box! Don't know why I am so surprised to see something like that on there.
Newatdecorating......I'm sorry, I can't remember where I got them online, it's been about 3 1/2 years. You should be able to do a search like plain pizza box, or 12x12x1 box (the size I ordered).
Do you have a restaurant supply store in your area like Smart & Final, Cash & Carry, etc? That may be a good resource for you too. I know the one closest to me will even order in other items that they don't normally carry on the shelves, you just have to ask!
Good luck in your search.
