am fairly new at pricing cakes and would love some feedback from you. what would you charge for this cake? it's 10, 8, 6 tiers, fondant covered. the board is stenciled with royal icing. am not looking for what you think it's worth, but what you would actually charge (does that make sense?) keep in mind that i live in a small town where most people get their cakes from sams or walmart. thanks.

Well what I would charge is not dependent on where you live so the instructions conflict a little.
But anyway, I would charge $4.50 per serving and $15-$25 for the topper depending on my mood. I would not upcharge for the stenciled board, bows or ribbons.
It's a very beautiful cake.
I would charge similar to K8...
I charge $5/serving base and I'd add $35 for the bows. So that's 65 servings which is $325 for the cake plus 35 for the bows which would be $360. HTH's
I am also new, so I can't help much. I just wanted to say that cake is beautiful. I LOVE the cake board designed like that Great job

If you want the price that I would charge, why should I keep in mind that you live in BFE?
I would charge 544 USD.
wow. i am soooo undercharging that i'm too ashamed to tell you what i charged. guess i'm afraid noone will order a cake if i charge what i probably should. also, i'm feel i'm not good enough yet to know i can consistently deliver an "almost perfect" product each time so i tend to undercharge until i'm better. ever feel that way?
I start at $5 a slice for fondant, so that cake would be about $325 for me. But then you need to add for delivery. I would charge extra for the topper depending on my mood.
oh, and i forgot, you are right--my directions made no sense. perhaps i should have said, what should i charge for this cake? and thank you for your comments.
I also live in a small town where people get their cakes from grocery stores. I would charge $3.50 per serving for this cake. People around here seem to think that is even expensive, but oh well! In my opinion, either they want it or they don't.

I live in a small town too, and alot of people think i'm too expensive, but frankly i know there is money around you just have to hold out for it. And i did go to the local grocery to check wedding prices and awhile back they were at 2.75 a serving.
I understand how you feel about charging when you are first starting out and don't have a lot of confidence. What I have tried to do is to check out local bakeries (if you have any, not chain stores but actual bakeries in your area) and see what they charge. If you are making you cakes from scratch, they are at least worth what a bakery charges. You don't have the overhead a bakery does, but you also don't get your ingredients as cheap.
Your cake is beautiful and your client would not get something like that at Walmart or Sam's (if they could have, they would have went there in the first place). I had a similar situation and my potential customer wanted a cake from scratch at Sam's Club price. I sent her to Sam's. The cake ingredients alone cost what they charge, but my cakes taste and look better. Value your time and your talent and most importantly, CHARGE for it! Keep up the fantastic work.
I LOVE the idea of stenciling the board with RI. That is genius! Your cake is gorgeous. I would have charged $260 plus delivery.
glad you liked the board, but i can't take credit for the idea. saw it done elsewhere. and from the sounds of what i should be asking for cakes i am definitely no genius! haha
I too, think the RI stenciling on the cake board is amazing!! It's just gorgeous. So tell us what you really charged...
