Have you seen the Miley Cyrus Cake Challenge? You might want to lend your support to a cake-buddy who was not only falsley accused of unsportsmanlike conduct she was set up for an ugly sucker punch on national tv.

http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopic-618872-15.html

Courtney responds half way down the second page.

She moved a competitor's cake to set hers in behind so he would not be upset about her boxing his cake into the communal frige. There were (looked like to me) two smudges of icing left on the inside wall of the frige where his crumb coat got dinged.

At the time, she thought it had already been done and did not mention it to anyone. The two smudges reminded me potentially of two different times it was dinged. They were there after she moved his cake once. Whatever.

Then she got it brought up to her at the judging, standing in front of the judges. It was a huge gut punch. While she could and maybe should have brought it up beforehand just to cya, they judge, juried and decided it--it came off unpleasant on the tv. They discussed it with the owner of the dinged cake beforehand but not with her. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. So wrong.

So just wanted to bring this to your attention. A falsely accused Cake Buddy could use our support.

I agree. I saw that show and could not tell from the footage that she was the one who dinged the cake. I thought it was like that when she removed it. And it was very unprofessional of the judges to do that to her.

I saw this episode and I was totally blown away. I can't believe Kerry V attacked her like that. They should have discussed the incident with both parties, not just the supposed victim. Kerry was so very unprofessional.

I saw that too, and I must say I do not see where SHE did it. I agree with everyone else..totally unfair and she is owed an apology.

I did not see the show. We don't get the same line up in Canada as they do in the US for the line up of their shows.
I have however gone to your web page and I must say that your cakes are fantastic and beautiful. Don't let them get you down. I would however remove the listing of that particular show from your site so people don't go & look for it.

Keep up the good work. Don't let people like that worry you. There are only so many cake people around and eventually Food Network will not have the expertise to draw from if they are setting people up.

Hi again guys. Let me say it again, you're great! When something like this happens, it really means a lot to have people behind you! Actually, the whole thing didn't happen. The footage that they show of the "sabataged" cake of Jorg's was actually after the cake was bumped. So they made it look like I was the one who had done it. I was actually holding my OWN cake in that footage, not his. There, unfortunately, were no camera's when I went to the cooler, so we'll never know how it happened (since ALL 4 competitors has cakes in that same cooler) but who really cares, it was a small ding, and Jorg didn't even know there was anything wrong with it until the producer told him. So.....ugh, frustrating, I guess I looked like a good person to blame it on. Oy Vey. I've been watching a lot of Willy Wonka to make me feel bettericon_smile.gif

I don't think she should remove the show listing. The show itself accuses but doesn't prove that she did anything wrong. It's created drama and fingers should not have been pointed and accusations made without providing us proof. Now... if there's a clip that was removed from that show that focuses a camera on that fridge, I'd like to see it.

I turned this program on somewhere in the middle and while unfamiliar with some of the bakers, I was appalled with Kerry Vincent's handling of the incident. You could tell that the baker she attacked had no idea what she was talking about. To get to the level of participating in one of these shows, one has to have had a bit of success, both in one's actual work, but also in how one is thought of by other bakers, etc. Really handled badly.......

And by the way, what do the opinions of people who weren't even there matter? I think most of us (I think) are well aware of the fact that what we see on t.v is sometimes only half the story, and edited to create drama and suspense. Just saying..... icon_smile.gif

Courtney,
You seem like a very sweet person and I was so very sorry to see this happen on the show. My 8 year old daughter and I watch all the challenges together and she was so bummed out about it - she kept telling me there wasn't any proof and that wasn't fair or nice of the judges. Which I thought also, but if an 8 year old can see it's crap, then, hey, hopefully everyone could see it! I loved your Nemo cake and I can't wait to see the show in April, I hope you did well! I also hope the drama you mentioned didn't happen to you in that show!
Good Luck Courtney, you are very talented and you deserve the best.

I love watching the cake challenges...so much talent; but what was done to Courtney at the Face the Judges point at the end was inexcusible.

I realize this is reality television, and I figured immediately that this was done for shock value and ratings, but in this case the judges were attacking her personally, not critiquing the decorating itself. Their remarks put her honesty and integrity into question on national television and was totally uncalled for. Talk about a sucker punch!

I really felt bad for her..she is an awesome decorator...and to think that the judges would go along with something like this for shock value at the end, made me lose a lot of respect for them and FN.

I saw it too and was disgusted by the way it was handled. It was a friggin' ding that he fixed in a matter of seconds. I think calling it "sabotage" was slanderous. "Sabotage" indicates an intentional act... and IF she dinged it (which I never thought she did), it was obviously an accident. The fact that FN and Kerry Vincent were willing to throw someone under the bus just to create drama and ratings was absolutely appalling.

I have to say, I've never cared too much for Kerry to begin with though... she has a very self-serving, holier(better)-than-thou attitude which is incredibly unattractive (but I guess it makes for good TV).

Kinda like Simon on American Idol. If they had a panel that all said 'ooohhh, ahhh, wonderful', we'd be bored. A lot of people tune in for the drama and cheeky remarks (cheeky? I think I've been watching too many aine2 videos!).

While Kerry is to be respected for all of her talent and accomplishments, experience, expertise, etc, she wasn't put on that show to be a 'yes-man', you know?

Hi to all my cake peeps and to hot cake babe Courtney icon_biggrin.gif

I to saw the show and it was such an easy fix it was all most laughable how the guy blew it way out of proportion for some sympathy from the judges.

I as well as many of you have dings happen all the time moving layers in and out of the fridge..

I was surprised how much of a baby Jorge was about it and the way the show played out.

I saw it, too. They definitely blew that ding out of proportion. It took him like 4 secs to fix it, in any event. Even if you did do it (which nobody knows for sure), it was apparrent that it was an honest mistake.

Chin up. Your fellow CCers are on your side, and you know how we get when we are mad about something. icon_lol.gif

I have to add that the fact that Jorg played into the drama really cheesed me off too. I always thought he was a sub-standard decorator, but now I also think he's a bit of a jerk too. If I were competing, there is NO WAY I would dis anyone else on TV...

You know, I support Courtney in this, but really... I don't think a competitor should have their hands on another competitor's cake anyway. I do not think she did this, but someone did. Obviously it was an accident, if it were some sort of sabotage, it would have been more of a catastrophe than a little ding. FN should give them all seperate coolers or have a neutral 'handler' that moves competitor's cakes.

I agree with that chilz822. I was very surprised when they showed that they had a communal cooler! I mean...there is just too much room for error there...and I am sure it has not been the first time. they just decided to show it this time around icon_razz.gif

Oh my. That's terrible! I saw the show, and admittedly, was pretty shocked that you would do that. My husband and I looked at each other like wow, she could have at least spoken to him about it.
But hearing this makes me pretty mad that they would edit it for cake drama on TV. Of course they want ratings, but to make you look like a terrible person in front of millions is just wrong. Yuck. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. icon_sad.gif Sorry this happened, and your 10 tiered cake was amazing!

Welcome Courtney........loved your cake and I never for a minute believed that you ruined Jorge's cake. He probably hit the cake on the side of the fridge himself when he put it in there.

KV reminds me of that lady on that show.........is it "The Nanny"? The realty show where the English Nanny goes in and tries to straighten out fresh, out of control children. That's all I could think of when she was scolding you at the end.

Even my husband, who BTW won't admit he watches Cake Challenge, but he does (I can see him watching behind that newspaper he's pretending to read) His reaction was "Who put the poker up Kerry's behind today?" (he even knows her name) icon_lol.gif

Well, I'm sure the general public knows it's edited for drama. I watch for the decorators, not the judges. I pretty much ignore them.

Once again welcome to CC Courtney and I second what dkelly says. We watch the decorators not the judges. I'm not big on the drama either, I think it just takes away time that I could be watching you guys decorating. BTW, loved your cake!

I'm well aware of why she's on there... but cake challenges should be based on talent, and not trashing peoples' reputations. Making someone out to be dishonorable when there is no hard evidence of any wrongdoing goes beyond Simon Cowell mocking a contestant's singing ability or bad choice of attire (which we can all judge for ourselves as well).

Courtney, Welcome to CC. You are amazing!!!!

I was so upset by the sucker punch. I could not believe that anyone could something like that at a competition to begin with. If they felt there was an issue it should have been taken care of before judging.

OhMyGanache you have said it! Simon tells the truth a little harshly but he is at least truthful.

Hi, I'm Courtney Clark's mom. She emailed to let me know you guys were being so supportive and I wanted to say thank you! It's been such a hard time for her. Being accused of sabotage on national TV with no way to defend yourself was a pretty low blow from the FN. Jorg agrees that she did not damage his cake. Too bad that didn't make the show! Her dad and I were present for the entire 8 hour challenge and she did a fantastic job. We are so proud of her! Whatever admiration I had for anyone on the Food Network is long gone. So much of what you see is manipulated in editing to create drama where none exists. Okay, I can feel my blood pressure increasing just thinking about this so I'll stop here. LOL Just wanted to say thanks for your support. It means a lot to all of us!
