I had a cake disaster today and I basically had to scrap it and bake a new cake. I'd like to use the scraps to make cake balls but I don't want to dip them in chocolate. Can I just mix the scraps with buttercream icing? Will they still adhere like a ball? I was thinking I could mix the scraps with buttercream, freeze them, and then whenever I wanted cake with icing, I'd have it. The chocolate kind of ruins it for me (just my personal perference - nothing against chocolate - it's just not want I want sometimes). icon_smile.gif
Thanks,
Christine

I have made cakeballs using buttercream to moisten them and then rolled in chopped nuts or flaked coconut, rather than chocolate. You can also roll them in cocoa or plain powdered sugar. If you're doing the sugar though, do it at the last minute. They don't store that well, as the sugar sort of melts into the cakeball and doesn't look very nice. I think the plain ones on their own would taste pretty good, though. HTH. icon_smile.gif
