I am making a cake that will have curlicues coming out of the top of the cake.....How do I get them to "stick" so they don't fall down??
I'm no expert, but I think you can used fondant adhesive, which is mixture of fondant and water
1 oz. Wilton ready-to-use rolled fondant (1 1/2 in. ball)
1/4 tsp. water
Knead water into fondant until it becomes softened and sticky. To attach a fondant decoration, place mixture in decorating bag fitted with a small round tip, or brush on back of decoration. Recipe may be doubled.

You cut thin strips of fondant and then wrap it around a dowel rod (or pencil) and let it dry. Once it's dry it will keep it's shape.
Hope that helps.
Thanx...I will try that....I have already made the curlicues, just didn't know how to make them stand up on top of the cake.
You are wanting to know how to get the already made/hardened curlicues
to stand up right?
You really need to put toothpicks in them. If they are applied to b'cream iced cake the end will soften If put on fondant then the 'gum glue' mentioned will help. Just take a pea size piece of fondant and liquefy it in a little water until it is a thin mud consistency.
You only need a tiny bit on the end of the piece....use a Q-tip to apply.
If they are soft enough to stick a toothpick into one end go for it.
Be sure to advise customer they are on toothpicks.
