I did a double take the other night and checked the Wilton servings (which I use), and I can't seem to find out really what an 18" round will serve for weddings.

Wilton has asterisks at the 18" round line on their chart, but it seems to say that two layers of 18" HALF round 2" in deep (so, half of an 18" round bottom tier??) serves 146?? Does that mean an entire 4" deep 18" round would serve 146 x 2 = 292???

This changes everything if my brochure and web serving chart is wrong...
anyone know?

No The figure of 146 is what you can expect to yeild from an 18"x4" round tier.
Are you using a 1/2 round pan to bake the cakes? In the past I have had 14", 16" and 18" 1/2 round pans and not a one of them produced a *round* cake It always was oval. (Each needed about 1" strip down the middle to get it round.)

I know this is a very old post but...  is 146 wedding or party size servings?

An 18" round serves 127 8 cu. in. servings when 4" high,

127 6 cu. in. servings when 3" high,

127 12 cu. in. servings when 6" high

(when following the same cutting pattern),

however, 18" rounds really should be 6" high to look proportionate, so if you use a board in the middle at 3" and cut as two separate 3" high tiers -- it would yield double the servings... 254 6 cu. in. servings.
