A funny Craig's List ad:
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/wan/980157740.html

150 servings ... heart shaped ... fondant .... rum flavored ....

"...budget is $175 and I'm trying to do it for less".

God bless her little heart ... she has no idea.

The sad thing is, most people think that's right. If we had a nickel for how many times we've heard ... (gasp) how much!?!

This is so hilarious. I was watching the show "rich bride, poor bride" the other day. This little shrew actually thought she could get a gorgeous four tiered fondant cake to feed 150 + people for around $100 dollars. I wanted to throw something at her as she drove off in her fancy car. She had absolutely no clue. I hate that I missed the end where it showed her actual wedding cake!

I bet she knows what businesses charge and that's why she's trying to put an add in, hoping that some home baker will make her cake for $175 or less. Kind of sad.

Even sadder...somebody will do it, for less even, undercut the bakers in the area.....and this sort of thing continues.

Jamie85364, you're probably right....I understand the newer decorators considering this scenario to gain experience and build up their portfolio; but the bride also needs to understand that you get what you pay for....

And, and....what is even worse, possibly, is someone knocking it out of the park, creating an absolutely bee-yootiful cake....for a hideously small amount of money. Then what? See, (sarcastically) you really can get a gorgeous cake for pennies. Acccck.

I wasn't disappointed!!!!

"It should feed 100 and be cheap" LMAO! For a 3 tiered cake!!!! She also requests that it be from a home baker.... which is illegal in Texas. Yeah, cant tell you how much Im dying to work for her!

Oh my Lord, Eldag0615!!! Hopefully, this ad was placed by a child-a very young child...Spelling errors make me crazy!! icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif

I hope she's not asked to do any writing on the cupcakes! You should order some, just for the cake wreck entry ability alone!

Maybe I should, just for fun. I would love to know what kind of frosting she uses and look at those Sponge Bob cc liners! Those are more expensive than the regular colored ones. Add the toppers that you buy here at our local bakery supply store @ .25 cents each, what would be the profit on those cc?
I forgot the box and the inserts to hold the cc.
Last year I donated 60 pink cupcakes to a program that my son belongs to in high school and 60 pink awareness ribbon chocolate lollipops, individually wrapped. The proceeds from this and other donated items went to the Breast Cancer Research org. Well, the teacher wanted to sell my (and all) cupcakes @ .25 each and the lollipops @ .50 each. I a nice, very nice way, I told her that if they did that, next time I would be more than willing to just donate the money. Well, they sold them @ .50 cents/ cupcake and 1.00 lollipop. My cc were the first ones to go, all the staff bought them. Next time, I will donate the money.

Hey, maybe the CC member that started that thread a couple of weeks ago about not charging per serving will do this Craigs list thing. Ya know the one, she said she doesn't understand how bakers can charge SOOO much per serving like we all do. icon_lol.gif

LOL I just got back from the store about pricing for ingredients for a 4 tiered heart shaped cake with buttercream icing. Ingredients alone are $150.

I just had to answer the question of why in the world would someone want to pay me to bake a cake in which the ingredients alone cost $150 when they can get one for $118 at Walmart.

You know what else is just really sad, yet hysterical, about that ad? She misspelled chocolate like 5 times, and every time it was different icon_confused.gif I mean, if you're going to SELL it, you might first want to learn how to SPELL it icon_rolleyes.gif

Hello everyone,
I am new here and stumbled across this thread. It got me curious so I checked CraigsList for my area.

Here is what I found...

http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/for/1018077970.html

http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/for/1001815382.html

$25 and $35 for a custom cake?....

I know the economy is in kind of a slump but are these people crazy.. I can't buy my supplies for a cake for that amount!

And Home Baking is not legal in my area either so I can not imagine how this can be done without taking quite a loss. Shoot they might as well have taken out an ad that said " I will pay you $25 to let me make a cake for you!"

I am also a stickler for proper grammar... I just want to call them and ask if I could send them a dictionary....

It may be illegal, but it happens.

I have a really bad feeling, I know this Btb.

Send her a sketch of what you do for $100. It might give her a reality check.
