So this is what I want to do, but reiscakes and the others say that it would be easier to use MMF vs. the buttercream. I think the buttercream looks ok and I think I know what I'm doing with buttercream, but I do like the look of the MMF and would like to give it a shot. How in the world would I get strings of MMF to be look so consistent? I can't imagine I'd be able to get it to look that way. Do you let it dry after you roll it out before you put it around the ball? Help! I'd like to make it for my daughter's birthday party this Saturday! Thanks!!

I've made a few batches of MMF and the only problem I had was that it never got hard. It stayed pretty mushy. Some here suggest adding gum tex to the batch to get it to harden. I would think that if making if from fondant or MMF (just off the top of my head) you would roll it out how ever thick you want and cut out your strings while it's still pliable and then add them to your ball. Just so that you can cut each string almost the same size vs trying to roll each individual strings. GOOD LUCK
and Welcome to our addiction!!!

I would use a clay gun to make the strings...It'll take you forever to roll out each individual string.

Sometimes I think I can figure everything out by myself, but you people sure show me there's more out there than I can imagine. Thanks for the advice, the gun thing sounds about my speed. thumbs_up.gif

If you have a KA, do you have the attachment for it for grinding meat or for pasta - the one with the holes in it that makes spaghetti? You could push the MMF or fondant through it...then all of your strings would be uniform. If you don't have the attachment, I'd use a clay gun, like TamiAZ mentioned. Good luck! icon_smile.gif

If you don't have a grinder and you don't have a clay gun, I once used my really well-washed garlic press to make strings. It is slow, but probalby faster than rolling each string.

I bought a Polymer Clay tool with different disks with different designs on them. That's how my sister made the noodles on her marzipan display shown in that gallery here.
