I am not a professional, just a mom who likes to bake....i'm baking a chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting for a friends bday and want to fill it with nutella.

it is going to be a half sheet cake, can i just use the nutella straight from the jar? it's just two cake layers, no fancy decorating.

please say yes b/c i don't want to dilute the taste of the nutella.

I can tell you that I have never used Nutella straight from the jar but I use it in a chocolate buttercream recipe from this site and it is WONDERFUL!!! Would you consider making chocolate icing instead?

you mean just skip the filling and make a nutella/chocolate icing?

i'm up for that. as long as i can use my favorite choc cake recipe (from the hersheys choc tin) and it has nutella, i'm up for it.

do you have the recipe, or the name of it so i can search it?

I LOVE the hershey's chocolate cake recipe. It's my all time favorite and I have filled it with straight nutella. The only downfall is that it blends right into the cake visually. Like if you cut into a cake with buttercream filling, you can see the white line in the middle, if you fill it with straight nutella, you won't see that filling line so it may appear unfilled... I say who cares! I love nutella and chocolate cake! The alternative is to just mix a little buttercream into the nutella to make it a bit fluffier and light in color.

nutella is great as a filling.
I use it all the time ( I buy the giant jars at costco).
you can soften it up by putting it in the microwave a few seconds (literally like 10 sec max otherwise it burns) to make it easier to spread.

Love, love LOVE Nutella!!!!

I also nuke it for a sec to soften it up... I use it in the middle of my Mexican Vanilla kahlua cake form this site... That will make your eyes roll back in your head!!! icon_lol.gif

enjoy,

Kim

thank you so much!

I'm not worried about the appearance....we're a pretty big drinking crowd so by the time cake time happens, most people won't notice that, lol!

thanks again!

I am planning to mix some nutella into chocolate buttercream to fill a WASC cake this weekend... To make PB buttercream, I have just used regular BC and added PB, so I'm going to use the same method with chocolate BC and Nutella and see what I get!

I used nutella as a filling on a chocolate cake, but mixed the nutella with whipped cream and it gave it a light and fluffy taste. Everyone loved it! Now you have me wanting to make another one for myself. I also used buttercream for the frosting/decorating, it goes good together.

There was a thread on nutella some time back and people posted great recipes for it as a filling. I'll try to find it and post it here for you.

I have mixed the nutella with buttercream and it tastes very good. I also recently tried this recipe from this site and it was so delicious. My husband thought it was the best icing I've ever made. Here's the link.....http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-3853-Chocolate-Hazelnut-Buttercream.html

I tried mixing Nutella with a chocolate buttercream one time (think it was just the recipe on the back of the Hershey's can) and it totally seized up on me! It was the strangest thing - I couldn't believe my eyes. Clearly that doesn't happen to everyone here who has posted about mixing it with buttercream...very glad to know that it was probably an anomaly!

It tastes great! It's chocolate hazelnut.

Never thought of using it as a filling. Now I'll have to make something to try out these ideas.

I just tried the chocolate hazelnut buttercream from this site today for a wedding cake I'm doing and its really good, I love it! What I wanted to do if I had enough was a thin layer of nutella over each cake layer and then the choc hazelnut b/c over it but I ran out.
Anyway Im sure whatever you decide with nutella will be a winner! Good luck icon_smile.gif

I like to put a dollop of it on my vanilla icecream! Never did care for it on toast.
