Squeeky3 do you want to share your scratch recipe? It doesn't have to be a mix. This is the gourmet thread and can be all kinds of recipes. If you don't want to it's understandable. I'm still looking for that perfect scratch chocolate cake recipe. icon_smile.gif

Of course, GrandmaG! It's one of the Hershey recipes, it's amazing and everyone I make it for goes crazy for it. I have people ordering a simple chocolate cake from me JUST to eat it for themselves haha Although it's more on the dense side (which makes it so fudgy, yumm) ... it's not a fluffy chocolate cake.

Here's the link for Hershey's 'Perfectly Chocolate' Chocolate Cake:

Thank you! I've heard a lot about the Hershey's recipe but have never tried it. You said this is one of the recipes. Do they have more than one chocolate cake recipe? I like a dense fudgy chocolate cake. So I'm anxious to try it.

Never mind. I just checked out their recipes. I guess the one I hear most about is on the can of the Hershey's cocoa. I was just wondering if this was the same recipe.

Hmm ... not sure which recipe is on the Cocoa can but you should definitely try this recipe, it's delicious, especially simply with a chocolate fudge icing.

Their website has many variations of chocolate cakes too.

I have the mint chocolate cake in the oven right now and my whole place smells like peppermint! I looove it! I feel like I'm getting a little high off of it haha

Some advice please!

Saturday early evening I made a double batch of cream cheese icing. After using it, I left it on my table covered and forgot to place it back in the fridge. I stayed at my parent's place the following afternoon (after delivering a wedding cake) and came back home Tuesday late night and realized I hadn't put the frosting in the fridge! So I did right that moment.

So basically it's been out for 3 days. The weather here has been okay, although Tues was pretty hot so not sure how the temperature was in my apartment.

Do you think it's still okay for me to save/freeze for later? Or should I chuck it? icon_sad.gif It smelled fine haha But didn't taste it.

Thanks!!!

Am I assuning correctly that the cheesecake filling that mac's mom uses is called mascarpone filling? If not, please point me in the right direction. I can't find the Frostin Pride ingredient for the cheesecake filling that the macarpone filling calls for. Is there something else I can use? Also, is there a sub for the marscapone cheese. I thought I read somewhere that there was.

Shall I use 2 tsps, will that be enough or 1 tbsp for a doubled recipe?

Thanks!

I may be too late (and it may be different in actual cake), but be careful with the peppermint oil. I used it once in a mint chocolate cheesecake foolishly substituting it tsp for tsp. with the called for extract. OMG it was so strong that it actually burned your mouth with each bite. OUCH

Hi everyone! Didn't realize this thread had gone four more pages....aaarrrggggghh!

Anyway, I can't remember how far back on this thread but people were talking about the banana cake. I need to make it this week and am wondering if there have been anynadaptations from the one listed in the google doc since then? (macsmom's)

Really only have one shot this week so don't want to have to regale or I won't have enough ripe bananas and the ones in the store are never anywhere near ripe yet.

Any advice for the banana cake? I would like it to be Delish but not one of those really "wet" cakes if possible...isnit like that? Should it be?...thanks everyone!

I used macsmom banana cake recipe for my grandsons b/d last week. I went right by the recipe. I used really, really ripe bananas. I had to order the banana cake mix from amazon. None around me at any store. it was worth it. Be sure and let it get done. I watched it closely at the end. It was not wet nor too moist. My dau. said it was delicious. I had made my son one the week before using a sratch recipe(delicious also). wouldn,t pass one up for the other. I used strawberry smbc for the filling with cut up strawberries, and used smbc with pure strawberry extract that i got form oive nation(delicious),and little strawberry puree. everyone loved it. (this was all on my grandsons cake of macsmom. I would make it all over again. hth I also made chocolate smbc in case anyone wanted to smear a little of that. lol!!! and they did!!!
